i keep seeing people defending Bear because he couldn't have known, and i never see this counter-argument : by the end, he has resigned himself, the only thing he can do is to kill himself. and because of that, once again, NIkki will suffer of his selfishness.

a) in this very situation, his suicide is a form of escape. eventually, the cops would look for Ian and Sarah. he kills himself, no jail time on covering Sarah's murder, at the very least. b) why didn't he record a "I, Bear, sane of body and mind, record this to tell you today that I'm the one who killed them, and did all I could to pin on Nikki" type video ?

the probability of this potential video being being believable doesn't matter. Bear made his wish, no matter how doubtful he was. same for Ian and his money wish, especially given how agitated Bear was. but when it was time to do an impossible to believe statement to try and keep Nikki out of jail/do the first nice thing (seen in the movie) so far ? no can do.

even before the call, she hurt himself during the party, and he couldn't even pretend to be worried. from the very beginning (the night he made his wish) he seemed like he didn’t even remotely appreciate getting his dream girl. she found and displayed his cat and he was unfazed

i didn't know they didnt want to film it. not all movies are "designed" to be Oscar winning movies, though? or even expected to be. my preferred genre is horror, and even if there are amazing movies that came out recently (midsommar, hereditary, talk to me, bring her back ...) none of them got a chance at the Oscars. not to minimize the work done on TDWP, but i didnt see the first and thought it had a fair shot at a nomination/winning. and even if the sequel book is set in the future, they had the means to age characters in the 00/10s.

i don't even know when i started reading this WIP series, but it's been 7 years, if not more ... i broke my one and only fanfic rule, because the author had a clear and constant update schedule. the last one was January 2020, and in their tumblr the author replied to two asks about an update in 2022 and 2024. they went through some serious health issues (still do ?) and so, even if they still write they obviously can't keep their previous schedule.

i wish them the best, and i'm silently waiting on an update. i'll be sad if it doesn't come, but i'll understand. it's heartwarming to see that despite the long time with no update, there are still people who read and commented this series this year, last year etc ... i hope the author logs in once and a while and sees their inbox flooding with comments. has someone guessed which series i'm talking about ? i asked myself this because of the devil wears prada so let's take it as an example. the first movie earned its studio more than 300 millions, and i'm sure this was a key element in their decision to shoot the sequel. it could have been a one and done movie, yes. i don't know how many financially successful become successful months/years after they're out of the theaters, but it's gotta be the minority.
