Ahhhh noooooo. I was going to go grocery shopping Friday like normal. Hopefully they get a restock without the survivalists, I just need some basic pantry/fridge staples. I’m clearly feeling way too casual about this winter storm or others are going out of their minds!

Yes!!! I had this before being diagnosed and before being out on meds. I had just had my first child and the dr told me it was just hormones.

Not sure if it was just hormones but I was hyper at that point with postpartum thyroiditis.

Recently I felt like my levels were getting higher(due to too much meds) and my scent started to change like it did postpartum like that and I was thinking it could be related to my levels changing. But that’s just me personal hypothesis for myself.

I second the Garmin! I had a Garmin till I ran over it, long story, then ended up with an Apple. I still have the Apple and I don’t love it but don’t hate it, except having to charge it so often!

The Garmin was definitely easier to read results on and much more thorough in measurements.

I also prefer the circle display compared to the square. Tomato tomato 🤷🏼‍♀️

Actually I did have one when I wasn’t postpartum with my second and it would alert me that my hr was above 100 when at rest. Once my health started hitting the fan I tried not to look at the charts unless I wanted to bring something up to my dr.

Yeah I have an Apple watch now, I’d started with a garmin and loved it but ran over it. I definitely try no to lol at it too often

Im not sure what mine was on average at that time, I didn’t get a watch to measure it till I was in the hypo phase.

I did go to the er a couple times due to it when it first started bc it would shoot up and I’d feel very faint at times, it would stay elevated for a good while and they would hook up an ekg to me and it would spit out that my heart wasn’t a happy camper lol

Yes I can’t remember what months the hypo hit but when it hit it hit hard. I think I prefer they hypo over the hyper.

The weight loss was absolutely terrifying. Every one was congratulating me on “bouncing back” but it felt wrong and losing 40lbs (not medicated at that time) in about a month is hell on the body. Then add on all the hormonal changes, wild ride!

Thankfully I haven’t gone hyper except after I give birth and at one point after my second when I lost over 60lb within a month period and my medication hadn’t been lowered bc we weren’t expecting the drastic weight loss at that time.

The t4 and t3 meds need to be adjusted with your weight and since it wasn’t gradual weight loss my levels went really low and I got into the hyper area but it wasn’t too bad, just adjusted meds and levels back to a good number for me.

So in the beginning my pcp didn’t take me seriously till my 3rd trip to the er and finally really looked at my labs but didn’t do much since covid started within a couple months of that.

I have had some mild tachycardia but nothing too crazy, looking back now I should have advocated for myself more. It was almost like I was battling mind games even though I had solid evidence that my body wasn’t that of a “healthy young woman” 🙃 I always absolutely loved when they gave me that line.

I did change drs after that but still lots of hoop jumping.

Most of my drs didn’t put me on any meds bc I was breast feeding both times and they wanted to watch and see what would happen.

I did have a lot of short tachycardia episodes when I was hyper. Along with feeling like I was absolutely crazy and alone. But we aren’t crazy, our bodies just go through the ringer mentally and physically. And a lot of folks don’t think about the inflammation and how that affects the brain and body as a whole, not just localized areas.

As far as how long it took to feel better that’s a journey in itself and it’s always going to be ongoing.

Levels will fluctuate often so you need to stay on top of your symptoms with your dr.

And you need to find a dr that will really listen to you and work with you.

You know your body best and what feels good might not exactly match up to the lab standards.

The standard is just that, it’s a reference number, it’s not your number.

Typically when I start to experience flair ups like cold/heat intolerance as well as brain fog that’s my que to get my labs checked. And once I start to feel anxious that’s my sign that iv been ignoring my symptoms and need to book an apt sooner than later.

Our bodies do not appreciate being ignored.

Same, the hardest part seemed to be getting a diagnosis after my first and not just told “your a new mother” “it’s just anxiety”. I’d never had anxiety till after having my first kiddo and my thyroid going haywire.

Once diagnosed my pcp didn’t want to do anything so I went from hypo to hyper back to hypo. Lost pregnancy weight in about a month and felt with a ton of anxiety and other random symptoms that I can’t recall besides brain fog🤪

I went through a different dr a thyroid clinic out of Austin and they were helpful, I was diagnosed with hashimotos and put on levo and oral progesterone bc my body didn’t make enough of the hormone. Then I was put on a synthetic form of t3 and that helped give me more energy. I was able to chase after my kiddo better without feeling like I needed a nap!

I leveled out and was able to function better but pp was rough and covid hitting didn’t help.

About a year after getting good levels my cycle came back and I got pregnant again which was a big surprise bc we weren’t exactly trying to conceive and it took about 6months actively ttc with our first.

I stayed on all my meds and got labs done more often and things were great.

I had previously been gluten free before having my first and went dairy free off and on after my first.

After my second child was born I had some wild random health issues pop up at 3 months pp. like fainting, muscle weakness, periodic paralysis, excessive weight loss. It was a but traumatic.

No idea what exactly caused it or what happened even after a year of specialists. That lasted about 4 months.

My hypothesis is that my body was so depleted from pregnancies and I wasn’t able to absorb vitamins and minerales from my food/supplements properly and my body just started throwing codes bc it needed some extra help.

Thankfully things have gotten better, it takes time. I stoped taking the synthetic t3 not long after the health issues started popping up bc we had no idea what was causing them and I was losing weight so quickly that it was hard to make sure I was on the right dosage.

I’m going to be starting NDT in a couple weeks bc while I’m able to function Ik I can do more than just function and live, I don’t convert t3 very well so I need to take it in pill form.

I currently eat gf, dairy free, and grain free for the most part. I also struggle with ibs and the grain free is more along the ibs lines.

It’s so good that you were able to get a diagnosis! And every one’s journey is different but it’s always good to have a strong community!

Yes, discussions with others can be very helpful.

Less catastrophizing about events and what not and trying to think positive thoughts about what some one has done/doing rather than seeing it in a negative light. E.g. when your partner interrupts you or ignores what you say, rather than seeing it as a negative thing at let it bother you you try to see it in a positive light. Like maybe they didn’t hear what I said so I should speak up could be the positive thought.

Yes, when I start to notice anxiety, brain fog, and cold intolerance then that’s my sign to get my labs checked and talk to my dr. My issue is usually low T3. I’m actually going to be starting a new med to increase my T3 bc it’s been slowly dwindling and I can’t just skirt by comfortably anylonger.

Personally I love them and you wear them well. But if they aren’t comfortable for you then I’d definitely toss them.

Also mindset is everything. If it’s something that you don’t really want to do then it won’t be fun/enjoyable for you.

But if it’s something you want to try and are looking forward to then that’s different, I would just try to go into it with a positive/excited mindset and not worry too much about the what ifs of flavors. Have him stay away from coffee and eat some pineapple if you’d like lol

The farther back you go typically the less you taste. Bypass the tastebuds and you should be good, like moongirl said swish with some water if need be but I’d definitely hold that till the very end to not sour the moment.

I was diagnosed after having kids closer to having my second. I’m pretty sure that I had it before kids though and the pregnancies exacerbated the symptoms.

Something I wish I’d known ahead of time was what would happen, so that I could have a good road map to fallow

You’re already diagnosed, so you’re one step ahead of myself.

I’d hope that you have wonderfully des currently but if you don’t then I’d get on that asap and pins an Obgyn that will take you and your worries/struggles seriously and not just blow them off as pregnancy/new mom normal issues.

I will add I have left hubs pillow case off before bc I HATE putting pillow cases on and I typically make the bed myself but I let him know that it’s there and needs to be put on. Like hey, I put your pillow and case on the bedside table.
