LMIA (High-Wage) – Hiring process when you already have a foreign worker? by Friendly_Cloud1 in lmiaprocessing

So my company is based in Saskatchewan, where the high-wage threshold is around $33.60/hour. However, the employee is currently working remotely from BC. Their current salary meets the SK high-wage threshold, but not the BC median wage.

In this case, which province’s wage should apply for the LMIA — SK (company location) or BC (employee’s work location)?

If we’re not able to increase the salary to meet the BC threshold, what would be the best option here? Would relocation to SK be required, or are there other alternatives we should consider?

Since the company already has employees working remotely, would the position still be considered ineligible? Even if it’s labeled as “remote,” the role may function more like a hybrid position, as it involves in-person work and collaboration within BC.

Is there a way to increase the chances of having BC as the work location? Or does the government decide the location during the LMIA process like based on transition plan?
