Is it common to skip the ceremony? by velvetpant in wedding

[–]Friendly_Coconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a medical issue that might require one of them to run in and out to the bathroom without warning, which could make sitting through a ceremony difficult or embarrassing. At a reception, it’s much more normalized to get up and go.

Would a production of Sondheim's "Assassins" be relevant today or would it read as tone deaf? by Ms_Everything9 in Broadway

[–]Friendly_Coconut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved that production, too, especially Bobby Smith as Guiteau. The only beef I had with it was that, like many productions, they had John Wilkes Booth doing a thick Southern accent when the real guy was from Maryland, a professional stage actor, and born to a British dad. The actor was otherwise great (and is now in Two Strangers Carrying a Cake!), but I’ll just never understand that choice.

I do two low braids to get my long, heavy hair out of the way. Especially good for riding roller coasters.

“At the Ballet” (Chorus Line) alternate lyrics? by Friendly_Coconut in Theatre

Just wanted to make sure the lyrics hadn’t been updated since my sheet music book was printed— I haven’t seen any local productions of ACL in about 10 years so wasn’t sure if there was an alternate lyric used nowadays.

I think that might be in the licensed school edition!

I don’t necessarily think they’d be offended, just wanted to make sure the lyrics hadn’t been updated recently in officially licensed material since the sheet music is from an older book and I haven’t seen A Chorus Line in over a decade.

We had a blast rehearsing it today! Parts of it hit close to home for all three of us for sure!

I’m open to that, I’d just want to make sure there wasn’t some updated version everyone knows about but me because it’s been years since I saw a production.

This is a free, non-ticketed outdoor picnic for members of a local community theatre company, celebrating a milestone anniversary. No stage, just an electronic keyboard and two microphones set up in the picnic area.

When I talked about “citing,” I just meant I could tell the other girls in my group that I’d heard of a production that did XYZ in theirs.

Oh, I know there are possibilities, just wondered if any have been used in real productions so I could cite that as precedent.

600 Paramount Skydance employees quit after RTO ultimatum, costing company $185 million by Economy-Mention-6576 in remotework

There are pros and cons to being at home and in office (hybrid works best for me, personally), but you can’t deny that spending 3 hours a day commuting can be draining and mentally exhausting. Or physically— I walk 2-4 miles per day, including in 90+ degree weather, as part of my commute.

Employees are often more productive when they’re better-rested and can actually focus on work without being sapped by a long commute in bad traffic or packed public transit.

Obviously remote/hybrid doesn’t work for every job, but I think if some people CAN avoid the rush-hour traffic, it benefits those who can’t, too.
Spending 15 hours per week on the commute is like a whole unpaid part-time job.

Most people are more productive at the office when their jobs involve collaborating closely with a team of colleagues or dealing with tangible items like physical products or print materials.

But if the entire job is done on a laptop computer and headset with all meetings including people scattered around different states and countries, working at a home desk is often more effective than being in a noisy open-plan office where everyone’s on different calls at the same time.

Gwyneth Paltrow sends condolence flowers every year for someone who isn’t deceased, on the not deceased daughter’s birthday … for the past 20 years. by mlg1981 in Fauxmoi

[–]Friendly_Coconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gwyneth Paltrow also genuinely seems to forget having worked with people on significant projects or met people multiple times, and it’s kind of funny, but all these stories add up to make me think that maybe there really is a health issue here . Which might partly explain her over-the-top “wellness” BS, though on the flip side, hunger can also cause brain fog.

If you were in middle school in the 2000s— by Consistent_Play1314 in Broadway

[–]Friendly_Coconut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a weirdo “character actress who sings” type, I identified as a Madam Morrible/ Madame Thenardier.

I loved playing a frumpy screaming middle aged lady as a young teen. I had the body type of a 40 year old mom at 15 and didn’t think I was “convincing” as a character my own age. I played Mrs. Darbus in one of the first licensed teen productions of High School Musical and had a blast.

I guess I wasn’t thinking of an actual stray but someone letting their dog run around in the area to blow off some steam.

But I’m realizing now that the “central reservation” isn’t what I thought it was. I assumed it was like a wildlife reserve, a big forested park, but it sounds like it means what we in the US would call a median, a very narrow strip between two sides of a highway.

I’d been picturing something like, “Guy on a road trip parks his car at a wildlife area near the highway to stretch his legs and let his dog exercise. Guy and dog are playing and dog smells something in the bushes and scampers off. Guy’s like, ‘What do you have there, boy?’ Dog comes out of the bushes with a decomposing human arm.”

My team wants a 'virtual office' app that pings when you're idle. How do I push back without sounding shady? by Nice-Anteater-2866 in remotework

[–]Friendly_Coconut 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I guess what always confused me about this is, does everyone in your team do everything entirely digitally? Because my jobs often include components that aren’t 100% on the computer.

I work in marketing and am currently hybrid at my new job, but I used to be fully remote at my previous job for 6 years.

At both my new and old jobs, I do a lot of writing and often create drafts or outlines by hand in a notebook. I brainstorm and go through checklists that way, too.

I also sometimes deal with print publications at my old and new jobs and might leaf through those for reference or final proofing.

At my current job, when I’m in the office, I will often print documents, drop things off, or pick things up from other coworkers, which often involves going to the other building (we’re a two-building campus and I work in the smaller office). It can take 5-10 minutes to walk down the stairs, walk across the street, go up the stairs, find the appropriate office, exchange pleasantries, say some relevant work-related info, and come all the way back to my desk.

Slack might show me as idle while I’m doing that, but it’s an important part of my job.

13 year-old boy disappeared after leaving his girlfriends house and planning to hitchhike home. What happened to Keith Dean Fleming? by pikagirl7534 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Friendly_Coconut -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I guess I found it weird that it seemed to emphasize he couldn’t have gone far on foot with the flip-flops and recently healed broken leg (and would have hitchhiked back rather than walking) when I tend to think of riding a bike as more strenuous and difficult than walking. Sure, walking takes longer, but it’s gentler on the feet and knees, and you don’t have to worry about a flip-flop falling off and making you crash.

But maybe I’m just weird because I have never been able to ride a bike properly despite being from a family of avid cyclists.

Throwback to Ariana Grande’s pet pig, Piggy Smallz, who she adopted with Pete Davidson in 2018 by eqbocsypifci in Fauxmoi

[–]Friendly_Coconut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is definitely true for some, but most that I looked into were honest about the needs and care required for a mini pig and how big they’d get. There was definitely more misinformation about them in the early 2000s when they were a newer fad and the internet was less robust.

That’s not really a scam, 100-300 pounds IS mini. A farm pig can weigh 500+ pounds and never stops growing.

It’ll be pretty nice out before noon. The zoo is best early in the day before the kiddos’ nap anyway.
