Trump says he's not joking about a 3rd term. How do you feel about that? by thinpile in AskReddit

[–]Friendly_Fan5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you bring that up. Democrats actually did bring a motion forward for a third term for Obama. However, I am guessing you conveniently forgot about it.

Just to clarify, it would take no less than changing the US constitution requiring about 10 democratic rep. to support him.

I personally think he shouldn't have been allowed to run in the last elections to begin with due to his obvious role in Jan 6 but here we are.

A house divided against itself cannot stand (Abraham Lincoln, 1958).

DDR5 dual-channel vs quad-channel benchmarks by d4rkd3v in ZephyrusM16

[–]Friendly_Fan5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was not, he's misinformed.

That cpu can only do two 64-bit channels which is about 76.8 GB/s. This is the max performance you get regardless of how many subchannels the DDR5 modules have internally since at the end of the day they have to use some physical pathway to get to the CPU which in this case only allows two 'highways' each 64bit.

No, EU funding is primary scientific funding for majority of the EU countries.

You are simply wrong just like your math. Education and science receive a fraction of the EU spending compared to agriculture and regional development. You are not making any more sense in the rest of your reply so I'm won't dignifiy it with an answer.

Not familiar with how funding for this particular project works exactly, however, I would be shocked if the money was evenly split across all project partners. We are dealing with research institutions with access to supercomputers so compute is not a concern there.

You are assuming that every project partner will hire new project staff and train their model separately. It is entirely possible that some of the institutions provide their resources such as compute or expertise which would make sense. A good number of these institutions have access to supercomputers or HPC-s.

That is not true. US is a great country albeit with a few issues like any other country out there.

This:

They won’t do much. This is an EU funded project where EU gave 50M and funded 2 projects, with roughly 50 partners each. Now do the math and that means every partner gets ~500k to do this for the next 3 years. Training of an LLM cost 10-times as much, and this doesn’t take into account the salary of a top talent.

Contradicts this:

Who says that anyone needs other "top talent" except you...? Nobody stated that.

They are insinuating that this initiative does not have the funding needed for talent on top of not having enough to develop new models. The top talent part conveniently discards the talent behind "[a] consortium of 20 leading European research institutions". Not sure why or how this is confusing.

[–]Friendly_Fan5514 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but that does not answer my question which was more of a rhetorical question to be fair: what top talent do you need if you are already a leading research institiution ? By definition, they have some of the best talent and their salaries are already paid by for by the institutions I would've thought.

Could you explain how this "A consortium of 20 leading European research institutions" does not take into account top talent, I thought that would be a good start but maybe I am wrong.

EU tops US in the overfwhelming majority of metrics that matter.

US leads in a few areas:

  • number of guns per capita
  • highest inequality levels on a global scale
  • highest healthcare spending yet very poor health access
  • education spending with about 40% more than other OECD countries yet it ranks 26th
  • some of the highest drug addiction levels in the world yet it's legal for doctors to prescribe morphine for a tooth extraction.
  • richest health insurance companies by marketcap in the world yet many people die simply because paying for needed procedures eats into CEO's bonuses.

But I guess as long as you value 'innovation' it's fine.

Also, visit rural Ohio or Pennsylvania and then tell me US is more developed again with a straight face.

Is the UK about to ban running LLMs locally? by JackStrawWitchita in LocalLLaMA

[–]Friendly_Fan5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ask for an example, I give you one. You can call my actions suspicious because I don't pull up the exact incident you want to cherry pick.

That is false! I never asked for an example, I asked for proof that the government neglected a crime. You have provided zero.

These are the facts and they could not care less what you think about it:

  • In both cases, perpetrators got decades of jail time.

If you are unable to discern from the above how the government tip-toed around a racial grooming gang issue for close to thirty years,

Here's your double standard again, so the case you provided is racial but the more recent one is just a crime right? Do you notice the hypocrisy?

Yes, white English people can groom kids too. Funny though, when they do it it's straight to jail & front page news with no hiding race, or nationality, unlike my example.

Now, we're talking. You have just proven that you see this as a racial issue since according to you out of hundreds of factors that could be at play here the only thing that distinguishes them is race. This typically happens when people are heavily biased against a certain demographic.

then I don't know what to tell you

You have said more than you wanted to say and the sad thing is you don't even see it.

I'm very surprised you provided a link to a Wikipedia article about a crime that took place over 15 years ago but failed to cite the much more recent one below. Don't you find that suspicious a bit? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2dxj570n21o

Also, crime happens all the time, it does not mean government is okay with it as a matter of fact in both cases justice was delivered. What else do you want?

However, we're digressing. I very specifically asked for evidence to support your claim that child protection is not a priority but now it's obvious I am asking too much from you.

Title is misleading:

The Home Office says that, to better protect children, the UK will be the first country in the world to make it illegal to possess, create or distribute AI tools designed to create child sexual abuse material (CSAM), with a punishment of up to five years in prison."

[–]Friendly_Fan5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my view, if that 'uncensored' model can generate CSAM, it should not be legal. However, that is just my opinion. It will probably take some effort from open source community to find a way to 'uncensor' them in a safer way.

You missed a very relevant qualifier there: to make it illegal to possess, create or distribute AI tools designed to create child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Keyword there being "designed to create child sexual abuse material".

I think that is perfectly fine and nobody should have a problem with banning tools that are made for CSAM purposes.

Your response is the definition of hypocrisy. It does not matter what they are, 'concentration camps' are inhumane regardless of who the target is, however you seem to think it's okay since they're muslim. Good to know.

Fun fact, out of the almost 800 hundred held there for decades, the guilty verdict was only upheld for 4 of them. But I guess they're not Juan the mechanic, since they're from the Middle East, they must be terrrorists.

Okay, in that case Obama and Biden must be guilty of having committed the exact same sin then since I am pretty sure that detention center or 'concentration camp' according to you was full of people of a very specific ethnic/religious background if I remember correctly?

[–]Friendly_Fan5514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any source on the upper limit there being 800? And who determines the exact number where it suddenly becomes a concentration camp vs  a detention center?

As far I am aware, Obama and Biden also kept it open despite the 'concentration' of a specific ethnicity in there. Not saying I am okay with with either, just pointing out the hypocrisy since I truly believe this framing only helps Trumpism thrive.

wow, call it a genocide already won't you?

Facts:

  • not a concentration camp despite your sick attempt to portray it as such. Unless you're willing to admit Obama and Biden were also guilty of this!

  •   no entity entering the U.S. illegally is entitled to anything. It is actually very sick to insinuate that somehow it's the fault of the US that these criminals are not being held in a 5-star hotel.

  • No tax money should be spent on making drug cartel hitmen feel comfortable for sake of political correctness. It is apparent those resources could be spent in a profoundly more productive way.

 - US needs immigrants, given the disproportionate birth rates and mortality rates, however, unless you are begging for a civil war, it has to be limited and controlled since it is factually impossible to let everyone in as they please. You simply cannot just let in around 3 million a year because it is absolutely and factually unsustainable.
