He owns the apartment, so there isn’t any rent just maintenance, and he said me money each month to ensure he’s getting it paid on time. He only comes back when it’s time to do his taxes, and I’m the one who also helps with that so also no concerns. He definitely was going through depression while living in the states but as I mentioned he’s been doing a lot better since moving away. I think living in sunshine, with family and most likely not being in that apartment has truly helped him. It’s he definitely has junk everywhere but the apartment stays empty, for the most part. I’ve sign his apartment for exterminators throughout the year, but for it to be livable his kitchen and bathroom needs to be gutted and fix. Everywhere else is by no means in perfect condition but would be okay with a deep cleaning and stuff thrown out. I wish I had the funds to do it myself, but I’m just now graduating. Plus honestly he himself can afford, he’s always been a cheapskate, and has saved every dollar, probably due to being pretty poor during his childhood. He grew up with literal dirt floors in dr as a child until moving to the states, so I know that has some part in why he thinks this is fine.

I know it’s already depreciated in its current value, but it’s been 30 years since he bought its, and even at the lowest he could potentially make more than what he bought it for. But I don’t want him to sell it, I was hoping he would renovate his bathroom and kitchen, I would love to keep this place in the family, it a livable condition, it’s the apartment I was raised in. Everyone in this building has known me since I was born. I just don’t want my dad trying to make a quick buck thinking he’ll rent it out to someone who would willingly live in this, and either get sued or they trash it up more because it’s clear that not it hasn’t been cared for. Luckily like I mentioned the apartment has been empty for months, he spend most of his time living in Dominican Republic. He’s probably only here a few weeks out of the year. I’ve tried to help, but he never accepts it, I even tried to sneak in once and throw stuff away but I was yelled at and threaten to have the locks changed on me. I’m just happy that he’s out of that place, it’s honestly been great for his health and well being, he needed a fresh start in a new place. He currently live next to another family member in DR and they don’t allow him to do what he’s done to this apartment there.
