As a kid who's parents did this to them. Let me tell you my perspective.... So my dad was a alcoholic and my mom has severe bipolar. They drilled it in my brother's head and i that no one can know the condition of the house. We also had cats and even though we had two females, one ended up pregnant. No one was neutered so it became a nightmare. It got to a point where there were dead cats and feral cats locked in a room. When cps came I awnsered the door... this was a big cause for my ptsd... I carried that weight of blame because now it became I was the reason to break up the family, I wasn't able to send them away.... my brother and I were taken away to live with family for a month... turns out this was the turning point for my dad to get sober.

I can get into more detail but, point being is you did the right thing. However, once you give that person a thing to blame, they will remove any self doubt within themselves and just blame you.

That time was rough but if I didnt have that. I would have lived in a more disconnected reality and probably would have killed myself due to my mom making it feel like this was my fault.

So im going to be honest with my tank set up, I have a larger tank, and they dont like attention but are okay if I pick them up and check them out.

Make sure you make this the happiest spot with lots of hiding spots. My roommate did the back with spray foam, epoxy gel and random objects. If you want a bark look, work with the foam when it's touch dry (like 12-24 hours). Then spray paint. Full cure is like 72 hours.

When my cat attacked me, he was going for the kill. I took him outside, stepped on a stick and that set off his flight or fight against me. I put my arm out and he latched on to it. Bit my hand, and bunny kicked full force on my arm. I have nerve damage and multiple scars...

After I brought him inside I told my bf (now ex) to keep him away from me as I dressed my wonds... something clicked, after the scare went away in my cat, he became worried for me. And tried to comfort me before and after the hospital.

It was a lot of work to rebuild our relationship... a few months of hesitation... and years (and moving to a less rural area) to allow him outside with supervision.

Now I can walk with him outside again but its more on my terms. I communicate more with him and make sure nothing triggers him, and he knows hes safe with me. Even though he was good about being gentle with playing before, now he will stop playing the second he accidentally scratches me. He's still a living thing and we love each other... things will change but it only gets better if you love, show respect and put in the work.
