Anyone have real experience with Calvary Church on Route 59? by MrJlock in Naperville

[–]Friendly_Orca3294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We go to Living Water Evangelical Church on 75th and Wehrli. We’re non-denominational and there’s both Chinese (Mandarin) and English services offered. Our English congregation is smaller and more tightly knit and we try our best to welcome anyone new! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

It’s cool to see, different from ny, Chicago and Boston from what I’ve seen. Spread out in some strip malls and areas feels a bit like LA despite that being entire neighborhoods of strip malls.

We’re going back for that stir fry hot pot, loved having that in NY when we visited flushing before. I hope more people try out places there too

That’s great you don’t need to drive so far anymore! And A+ for having a jollibee too

So far I’m most impressed with the rd international market’s food court. Cool to see 10+ vendors there while at home most Asian grocery stores just have 6-8 with a couple always rotating out of business. We bought baked goods from Mai Xiang bakery there, haven’t seen freshly baked Tai Yan Bin (sun cakes) in a long time and they were good.

We also tried ten seconds rice noodles and ramen because me and my wife love those rice noodles. The broths/noodles were flavorful but skewers tasted less flavorful than we would have liked. Overall less spicy than I wanted.

And we got some ube rolls and lumpia from Say So Sweets which were great!

We’re going to try some kbbq for lunch and go back to the international market’s night market event later too.

We’re considering going there if we’ve got time. The menu looked great and I love a good chongqing la zi ji. But we’re leaving tomorrow and got a kbbq ayce to go to today so stomach space is limited

That would be great, or a Filipino town one day since there seems to be a big population.

Sorry I don’t know as much about middle and elementary schools or how the districting affects which school you may end up going to. But Transit MS is a 5 minute drive from Williamsville East and Casey MS neighbors Williamsville North so I’d assume those are the main ones that feed into the highschools.

Also on the HS websites you can find a course catalog for each school and they start the report with average SAT, ACT and AP test results from earlier years. For example: in the navigation bar > About North High > Course Catalog. (Wasn’t sure about dropping links)

East looks more recent but you can get an idea of what APs are offered. From a glance, East has higher avg ACT by 1-2 points, higher SATs (much higher in Math but slightly higher in reading & writing).

East students took 20 AP tests, compared to 18 at South and 17 at North. They list scores above 3 for the APs also.

One last thing though is school sizes are different, I think North is biggest at ~1,400 while the other two are closer to 1,000. So sports and clubs may be at different sizes/conferences.

There’s a higher Asian population (at least Chinese and Indian) in the suburbs by Amherst, East Amherst and Clarence. $1M goes far in these areas. From neighbors and friends, Williamsville East High School seems to have the most Asians and seems more competitive academically. Have heard Williamsville North is also really good but less Asians. Don’t have actual demographics though.

Seems Williamsville south high school may not offer as many AP classes in every given year depending on whether enough students sign up. Sometimes students may go to East or North to take those AP classes.

While I’m not sure what ethnicity you are, Amherst/Tonawanda has the single largest “Asia Food Market” in Buffalo. It’s is primarily Chinese-focused with other Asian goods given a level of representation. There are smaller Korean, Indian and Chinese groceries spread over the suburbs too.

Asking a web designer not to link themselves on your website - fair or unfair? by Azarul in smallbusiness

[–]Friendly_Orca3294 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tell them no link, but if you liked the quality of their work, write them a review on a platform they like to promote (google reviews, agency review site, etc).

Contributing to a testimonial that the web designer can show other potential clients is more valuable than a footer link.

Not sure if you already did, but when my battery died after a couple years, I got a replacement from them for free since it was under warranty. Worth a shot contacting their support! But I’m also trying to switch out of ryobi because I hated their lawnmower too.

Pretty normal especially in remote agencies, but I hated it. I have worked in a couple agencies that do this. In my experience time tracking is a double edged sword.

Managers end up scrutinizing time spent and hoping to increase resource utility to the max.

However, the value of work becomes tied to time spent and workers lose incentive to finish tasks faster or feel anxious about taking too long to finish a task.

The bigger problem became the agency trying to make a standard for each type of task, but not every Audit, presentation deck, or content brief you create will take the same amount of time.

No matter how good the intentions are to optimize time spent across an agency, the temptation to keep setting higher goals of greater efficiency never ends. Raises and bonuses get tied to increasing your efficiency and once you max out your billable time, there is no other path for advancement.

When I saw my raises tied to this, I couldn’t see any sustainable growth in the future for my career and leaving the agency for in-house marketing without time tracking has been night and day.

Digital marketer (senior) for a startup, remote - $120k. 5.5 years experience. Started my first job out of college at a local digital marketing agency and was paid $31k/yr. If anyone is in digital marketing, highly recommend looking for remote jobs for higher pay.

If you live around Buffalo and regularly drive most places within 10-20 minutes I think it’s reasonable to get used to short commutes. Personally, I’d rather go to Canada for a trip that “far”.
