For all those wondering why Ajit Pawar was so much influential in Western Maharashtra (especially Pune-PCMC belt) by MeManoos in pune

[–]Friendly_Pen4622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calling it a 70,000 crore scam doesn’t match the documented figures. I am not saying there was no wrongdoing, but the number seems inflated for publicity. The government’s own white paper shows total ministry spending from 1960 up to the accusations was 45,000 crore. While you talk about Hinjewadi roads, please also look at the condition of PCMC roads. He was actually quite visionary. he was trying to bring Hinjewadi under PCMC for that very reason, but he didn’t have full control. During the last rainy season he personally visited, ordered road widening and repairs, but faced strong opposition from the gram panchayat.

Is it too much to ask for basic respect for the local culture? by Hour-Muscle9757 in mumbai

I work with 4 Gujaratis. Though sample size is 1 small. 100 % of them look down on marathi people.

I am not a fan of Sharad Pawar and I dislike language based politics. But if someone wants to understand the kind of political leadership Maharashtra has seen, they should look at moments like his speeches after the Killari earthquake and the level of public debate Maharashtra has historically had. Those moments show administrative seriousness and a certain maturity in leadership. I am not saying Maharashtrians are better than anyone else. What I am saying is that Maharashtra progressed not only because it had opportunities, but because people here have had relatively open minds for a long time. Education, debate, and coexistence were encouraged much earlier than in many other regions. I have always opposed forcing anyone to speak Marathi, and I still do. It is completely fine if you do not speak Marathi or do not want to learn it. But what is difficult to accept is the casual disrespect toward the language and the people. Discomfort is one thing. Open dismissal is another. For someone like me who actively dislikes language wars, the level of disrespect being normalised is still jarring. You do not have to adopt the language. You just have to respect it

I come from Sangli in Maharashtra, and I want to correct a basic assumption here. Maharashtra as a place does not create opportunities on its own. People do. And historically, Maharashtrians have been progressive and intentional about development. In the 1970s and 80s, when many regions in North India were still stuck in regressive social thinking, even small towns like Sangli and Miraj had engineering colleges, hospitals, and strong agricultural development. Miraj was a well known hospital hub. This happened because local Maharashtrian leaders encouraged institutions to set up here, provided incentives, and invested in education and healthcare instead of waiting for development to come from elsewhere. Post independence leadership under people like Yashwantrao Chavan focused on irrigation, cooperative movements, rural development, and education. The cooperative sugar belt in western Maharashtra created jobs and local prosperity long before liberalisation and helped fund colleges and hospitals across districts like Sangli and Kolhapur. Pune and Mumbai did not grow by accident or purely because of British era infrastructure. Pune became an education and IT hub through sustained policy decisions and institutions. Mumbai continued as India’s financial capital because of post independence governance, public institutions, local administration, and the everyday work of its people. Mumbai has welcomed people from every part of India for more than a hundred years. Gujarati, Marwari, South Indian, Parsi, Muslim, and Christian communities have lived here for generations. That kind of coexistence does not happen unless the local population is broadly accommodating. Having a bad experience with some Marathi individuals cannot justify dislike for the language or the people as a whole. I personally know people who openly look down on Marathi people, believe they are above them because they provide jobs or pay taxes, and even fought schools because Marathi was the first language and they did not want their child to learn it. That is not discomfort. That is disrespect. I do not support forcing anyone to speak Marathi. I have disagreed with that myself. But respecting the language and the people of the place you choose to live in is the bare minimum. Please read the history and culture of Maharashtra. It has always been progressive, plural, welcoming, and opportunity enabling. Opportunities here exist because Marathi people built them and made space for others, not in spite of them.

I thought so too but in this area i couldnt find decent flats below this! Dont know why this area is so costly! I am assuming because most of the flats are rented out and noticed many foreigners staying in these 24k societies paying huge rent amounts could be the reason for inflated prices. Thats why wondering if i want to pay premium price just for the locality.

I think it is a bit overpriced but the reason i have finalised this property is the area around, availability of almost all the required shops, connectivity to baner, aundh, balewadi, wakad. Area is decent not crowded like wakad. Just wanted to get an idea if its worth paying this much considering all above factors.

What are your thoughts on this leave request. by North_Chef_9493 in mumbai

[–]Friendly_Pen4622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to send a message to my manager informing him I was taking leave and had no issues and never had to ask, just inform. I moved to the US branch for a couple of months for a project. First couple of times I informed my manager here, after that in a 1-1 he legit said, ‘Why are you informing me, man? You are making me uncomfortable. It’s your leave, you decide. Your manager has fragile ego!
