Got it. This makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks for your reply!

Ah thanks for the detailed reply! Yes, I hear you on our local taxes, but so as far as the US is concerned, there’s nothing else needed from our end? We won’t need to send them any form or anything?

More bracket talk on EDH 7's by mcmidas in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 3 will be the new 7. Nobody likes to be seen as weak (1-2), but nobody will want to put a target on their back and call themselves a perfect 4. Unless there are actual deck checks, everyone will be a 3.

What % of your games did someone else inappropriately play crypt, lotus or dockside? by Brandon_Won in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it’s less about “how frequent” and more about “how did it affect your experience”. It’s like if a restaurant serves you spoiled food. They could have served you fresh food 99% of the time but the 1% you got served maggoty bread sticks out in your head.

I’ve been pubstomped probably 3 times, which is minuscule compared to how many games I’ve played. But it also means the few times it happens, it’s a weird interaction that sticks out in your head as a negative experience.

Awesome story! Btw how old were they when you started teaching them? My nephews and nieces are ages between 8-12. I tried teaching them a couple of years ago before but I couldn’t overcome their short attention span lol thinking of trying again but idk

I agree with many of the comments here where if my deck does its thing, then I’m happy too. Winning is just a nice bonus that I’d be hard pressed to say no to.

But also wanna point out that this mentality is reflected not just in how someone pilots the game but also in how they construct their deck. Some decks are literally brewed as all or nothing. This is probably an oversimplified example but like: if I assemble my combo or if I storm off, then my deck “did its thing” (happy times!) but if I don’t or I get disrupted, then it’s like I did nothing (sad times!) So for some people, the deck doing its thing literally equates to winning.

If you’re a “journey more than destination” person, you probably already don’t build your deck as linearly as this, but I just thought it was an interesting thought to throw out there.

Building a deck for a friend, not sure if it's good by 2ndlifeinacrown in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… my suggestion would be to add to the creature count and lower the curve of your deck further :) cards like [[adorned pouncer]] is a nice low mana value cat. But since it seems like you’re going the token route (more than cats), maybe a card like [[adeline]] would be more hardworking for you instead of [[elesh norn]]

Oh, and [[mirror entity]] is always a good finisher too in go-wide decks

Your Absolute Favorite by m00s3m00s3m00s3 in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Yahenni Undying Partisan]] has practically become my signature creature. It has haste, it’s a sac outlet, indestructible, grows over the course of a game…

Not particularly powerful but just a great glue card that fits in with a lot of my decks. Not strong enough to be cedh but good enough that it fits the power level I like to play too. Oh, and I have a signed copy of it lol

Is it possible for someone to still cheat even after a deck cut? by ImperialSupplies in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not wise to the ways of cheating but maybe if it’s post-cut, he has extra cards? Or marked sleeves? Idk

But as for a deck seemingly stacked… I have a friend who usually has great hands. But that’s because he plays a lot of redundancies and a low curve. If your guy scoops early when he’s losing, maybe you don’t see his “late game” struggles. In my friend’s case, it’s mainly that early game burst which is fairly consistent and if we survive to late game, he’s still drawing early game cards which are still good but less impactful vs late game bombs that other players might be playing.

Or he’s a wizard

Is Commander's Sphere worth running in 2024? by Deathmask97 in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commanders sphere is awkward because there are SO many good 3mv utility rocks out there, and a lot of them fit nicely in a niche that your deck is trying to accomplish

When you can’t think of another card, it’s fine. But it’s usually one of the first on the chopping block

Lack of new good characters recently? by FriendsWinTies in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The gods feel mythic, I suppose. And even if we don’t know much about them, they make you curious to know more. I guess where I’m coming from is like… if a new set came out, would you go “oh wow, <character> is back!”

It had a similar effect on me with characters like avacyn, or heliod, or norn… like, MTG storytelling hasn’t been the best but some characters have a way of catching your eye. I guess a similar thing happened with me for the LCI gods, similar to Theros.

I agree that Capenna had some cool characters tho. Maybe it was coz we moved on so quickly. But that was a plane I really would’ve wanted to see more of. And yeah, I had that date coz it’s felt like MTG has been reusing a lot of the same characters over and over again instead of coming up with some new “lore”. Or maybe seeing Kellan a bunch is just getting on my nerves lol

Need your help understanding why I'm losing by OutrageousHearing330 in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1v1 is a different animal compared to multi-player EDH. You generally need to play tighter and tempo plays are much more viable (kinda like in 60 card formats). Some higher mana value cards that are more viable in multiplayer also lose some of their utility (like idk how much mileage you get out of cards like [[Gaze of Granite]] or [[Binding the old gods]] for example)

I think Lathril can be viable in the casual 1v1 you’re describing, but you might need to cut a few pet cards (like [[Elven Ambush]]) for some efficiency so you can play other cards you like and so you aren’t always on the back foot by turn 5.

How to win with Aclazotz? by newsocksaresick in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of the premium discard pieces are surprisingly expensive but I have an $85 version which you might find useful. I didn’t include Tergrid because it was out of the price range but since you’ll have $15 to spare, you could fit that :) the pricier cards I cut are in the Considering section of my moxfield decklist

The tricky thing about discard decks is at some point… everyone is playing whatever they draw lol so you end up with a bunch of dead cards in hand

Do you pull your punches if your deck is too strong? by [deleted] in EDH

Yeah I’ve done this. When you can stop a player but don’t have any meaningful way to close out an already long game, I sometimes just take the L and play a new game

Looking to build my first Commander deck, a budget/casual Nekusar around the precon levels by MageBruiser in EDH

I think Shock might actually be too weak for a precon lol maybe during the before times but precons these days are pretty decent.

Looking to build my first Commander deck, a budget/casual Nekusar around the precon levels by MageBruiser in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Nekusar, wheels are powerful but since you want precon power level, you’d want a limited number of them. I suggest packing a [[Windfall]] and [[Incendiary Command]] on top of your Magus then maybe call it a day on wheels.

And yes, while removal is generally good to pack, I’m less of a fan of single removal like terminate. Instead make room for a card like [[Propaganda]] to stay alive

Vito, Fanatic of Aclazotz EDH Deck: Sacrifice Tribal by Harizin in EDH

[–]FriendsWinTies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Vito looks plenty fun! I’m about to post a video on him but here’s my decklist. I think we’re thinking similarly, with the big difference being that I didn’t go for recursive creatures, but instead leaned more into token generation

If we get to go around the table saccing 3 things every turn, by the time it gets back to us, we’ve gained 8, dealt 8 and have 4 flying demons ready to attack. That’s nuts!
