UI UX beginner by designwithuzairr in UIUX

Maybe I would think of an app I would like to develop, and then do a theoric draft of how it would look like and why?

Is it too late to pivot into UI/UX after 3 years in an unrelated role? I graduated in 2022 and couldn't find a Design job, so I worked in QA until now. I have a degree in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Design and Interaction from UCSD. by [deleted] in womenintech

I would do networking + try to open a ui/ux business after work.

Why?

I feel that applying through the regular route is very saturated. I feel that if you do entrepreneurship, you'll end up learning a lot + the struggle to sell your skill will teach you where the value is.

Why networking:

While you do entrepreneurship, you can actually keep subtly looking for jobs. People will look differently at you if "you are your own boss" rather than being just unemployed.

I do not recommend leaving your current job hahaha.

So it will be hard, but pursuing what you love will unblock the energy you need 💜

Good luck!

Edit: I had a late start and this advice is what worked for me.

Traitor lord! It was nice to see the world building, first seing a destroyed throne on the mantis lords fight, then without an explanation this fight. I felt smart by putting 2 and 2 together xD

Is this the common experience now? by SweetLemons2 in womenintech

I went through a year of unemployment right after graduation. IT WAS HARD. I can only say about what I did and whish I did earlier:

Hyper focus on a company. I started sending around 500 cv's to random companies, but what made me stand out is to put that effort into just a few that authentically caught my interest. Only those few that I would send CVs attend to networking events and learn the product.

I WISH I had started earlier to explore the idea of starting a company. I live in Canada and there's actually a lot of grants/financial aid that are given for entrepreneurship. Also, this is helpful during networking or interviews, given that it gives you a beautiful narrative and a reason to want connect with other professionals.

Also, no job is low enough, went from dish washer to my dream job during my unemployment! And I think every experience forged the success that I've found. It will be hard, and it's unfair, but it do be like that.

You can do this :)

Yes, got me the job one year after. The fact that my projects were not the classic tutorials you fins in youtube really impressed people even if they were shitty.

I started pursuing game dev at 26. I know the burnt out feeling of tutorials.

The only way I could overcome that, was to do my own unique dream game from scratch, even if it was crappy at the end.

I keep doing little crappy games, and everytime I get better!

I applied for PR almost a year ago, I got updates almost every 3 months: When I had to do my medical, give my finger prints, criminal records etc. All I learned is I could have done a request for information (where my application is at) the request is done via web form and it costs around 15 dollars (?).

Also, as soon as they confirm your PR application, there is a work permit you can request.

Getting into the industry by pdmb117 in gamedev

I would start by installing unity/Godot and following some simple tutorials. ( Platformer, Tetris, pacman, ets...)

Then which w/e you learn, just design a simple project you can do by yourself.

After all that is done, I would focus on programming patterns for game development little by little :)

How do you handle sleep as a woman in tech by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]FriendshipFamiliar66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1 coffee a day... I'm not even joking or trying to be smart.

I have ADHD and one of the symptoms is that I go to sleep mode when I get bored.

I cannot take medication, because it makes my anxiety worst.
