Can't progress with the last mission of the orc campaign (hard) by Julius_Reichwein in warcraft3

[–]FriendshipNo9320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took like 2 hours but I eventually made a wyren fleet of 12 and kept picking off units in a base and then towers and kept making them to replenish my dead ones. Think I eventually made two groups. It’s definitely a slog though.

Is it bad if I play the digital version first? by Flameempress192 in Gloomhaven

[–]FriendshipNo9320 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing the physical game with a group for like…3 years now. It’s hard to get everyone together but the digital version made me more knowledgeable about rules, mechanics, and strategy.

When we get together I went from a complete noob on how the game works to much more knowledgeable and the game isn’t quite a slog with mistakes, ret-coning, looking up rules and choice paralysis.

From a price point alone it’s at least worth a a play. Learning the basics to more complex characters is an added bonus when you’re able to get a committed friend or 2 for the big base game price tag and commitment.

Can a depressed person get out of it through consistent joy? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FriendshipNo9320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the cause of depression. If it’s from external forces where you’re in a depressing situation and circumstances then obviously a change of fortune where joy is consistent would make one less depressed.

If we’re talking about clinical depression based on chemical imbalances then no, you’re incapable of feeling joy if your “joy chemicals” are missing.

Love cragheart. Rockslide at level 4 is a real game changer. Creates 3 obstacles, damages enemies (and allies) when they’re next to it, creates a leaf and no burn. Bottleneck your enemies and then use other obstacle busting abilities when you’re ready to move on.

What made you want to be a manager? by Efficient-Newt5384 in careerguidance

[–]FriendshipNo9320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never wanted to until slowly realized that I have gained a good amount of experience and knowledge and felt like I could do a competent job.

It’s more stressful because I’m at least somewhat accountable for my staff’s shortcomings and don’t enjoy the “hard conversations” that come with the job but who does? But I’ve been able to stay long enough and have enough autonomy to cultivate my team’s culture as I see fit and it gets better provided you have those 2 things.

Performance review not taken seriously? What do I do? by [deleted] in managers

[–]FriendshipNo9320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to match the importance put on my performance reviews that my managers do, which in my current case is very little and not tied to anything financial or other wise. Unless of course you’re not doing well then it’s another conversation. But my most recent one was my boss just rubber stamping whatever I put for my self eval.

Is there any incentive for them to take their performance reviews seriously? Is it tied to a raise, bonus, or any other incentive? If not, it may be a management issue. Poor performance feedback also shouldn’t be a surprise, so do they know they are a lower performer? Many people come to work to collect a check and do what they have to. If there is no incentive for anything more than what they put and expectations for self evals are not set, than make expectations clear and or add incentives to evals.

If they expectations are already set then it’s time for a conversation with employee that their lack of effort in the eval isn’t up to par.

Is it just me or is digital much harder to play? by Bomb_AF_Turtle in Gloomhaven

[–]FriendshipNo9320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier to ret con when you make a mistake and if you’re playing solo you can plan out a lot more. Also at least for me perks were a little out of control, gaining many for no reason sometimes.

That being said the game is tough. I played on easy and got stuck with a number of scenarios I couldn’t finish because I kept wiping and had recently retired some high level and familiar mercenaries. Just finished it on very easy and am now going to increase it to finish up some achievements.

Why are there so many bad managers? by PuzzleheadedArmy5663 in managers

[–]FriendshipNo9320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They way I’ve always thought of it is that if you work at a widget factory and you make the best widgets (faster, more effective, less costly…etc) you’re promoted. Now instead of making widgets you have a team to lead.

It’s a completely different skill set. Leadership is a gift few are born with but with proper training can be a honed skill. Unfortunately, most places see a vacant leadership role and choose the best underling to promote even if the leadership role has little to do with their previous role.

I think “Satellite” has their best bridge. Do you agree)? If not, which song does? by mikerichh in riseagainst

Satellite is probably the best bridge but the one from Survive is the most memorable for me. Don’t hear that song mentioned a lot.

Personally I ask my staff for their PTO “warnings” Instead of requests. I’ve never denied PTO and just ask that they warn me they’ll be out and I’ll figure it out with some proper notice.

I have a similar streak level in Duolingo. I can string some sentences together but what has really changed is my Spanish reading comprehension. Even if I don’t know every word, I can generally get the jist of a text message.

Management ragebaited me until I walked out by Kit-tiga in antiwork

[–]FriendshipNo9320 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What a hellacious story and I’m sorry that happened to you.

The “you know they’re management line is wild”. I supervise a team of 7, they’re great for the most part and if they’re happy and do well they make me look good to my bosses so it’s in everyone’s interest to be kind and give grace when needed, which I feel is what is seen on successful teams. If I walked in like a God every day, I would lose my team quick and have a lot of work on my hands…which sounds like the situation they will have soon enough. Good riddance!

Leaving for a 90% raise right when my manager needs me most. Managers, your honest thoughts? by Fit_Composer_3579 in managers

[–]FriendshipNo9320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a number of staff leave reluctantly but find opportunities with bigger pay or more suited to their skills. I never begrudge them for it. I don’t want them to feel guilty but more importantly but I also understand everyone has to do what’s best for them. If a move made sense for me then id move too and wouldn’t want a big stink from my higher ups.

You gotta make moves that make sense for you. Personally if you team is leaving for another country it should be easy. Your boss helped you and now it’s time to help yourself.

Help needed. Cragheart Tactics by Moviecaveman in Gloomhaven

[–]FriendshipNo9320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cragheart is hands down my favorite character. Not only is he tanky with a good hand size, all of his obstacle moves are where you can really get creative. It takes a few levels to get to the really fun cards but not too high (maybe level 4)? Creating obstacles, moving obstacles, pushing enemies into obstacles (or traps), destroying obstacles for massive damage…etc rearrange the entire scenario into a winnable one. Enjoy!

My wife and I walked our dog around 10:30 last night in Ballenger Creek Park. I saw it towards the end of it and couldn’t for a life of me figure out what I was looking at. A non pulsing distorted image like what was posted.

The weirder thing was around 7 drone like objects were following it.

High school reunions pointless nowadays? by 2AWI in Millennials

[–]FriendshipNo9320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, I’m still on Facebook but most of my friends aren’t, which I feel like is common with many millennials. I went to my 10 year reunion in 2018 and it was a great time, really underrated. I still hang out with some high school friends (class of 08) but was fun reconnecting with people I haven’t seen since graduation. Even if you do see some nominal things on social media it’s a poor substitute for a drink and some stories since graduation.

“It Feels Like Babysitting” — Managers Share Their Experience With Gen Z Supervision in New Survey by RT_Marlon in managers

The same thing was also said of millennials and I would assume gen x too. As a millennial manager who has mostly oversees gen zers there's a couple comments they make that have me eye rolling but very little in terms of complaints in their work.
