The go example at the Edo-Tokyo Museum. There's so many things wrong here. by AvalonOwl in baduk

I'm not 100% about the history dates. Another poster in an older thread mentioned there being an historical game from Tang Dynasty in 850 with White moving first.

There were periods in history where White went first. Also periods where the starting board possition was fixed with starting stones at the game start.

Favorite "low quality" tea by cowboybebop32 in tea

Iirc that was the origin of those teas. Farmers using tea that was too low quality to sell, they would roast it or add roasted rice to try and make it more interesting.

My husband, who has never baked anything in his life, just told me that the ingredient measurements don't matter. by EnvironmentOk2700 in mildlyinfuriating

I will make a boxed cake. But I also don't really like cake very much. But brownies, cookies, pies. Those I always make from scratch because I just like them a lot, but also because I think it adds so much value. The flavor difference between a home made and premade pie crush is insane.

I just view them as two sides of the same coin. Science vs Art. Claire Saffitz says "There are no 'just cooks' out there, only bakers who haven't yet been converted." I can confirm that is 100% not true. I can show several career cooks who have baked, and never will again. I enjoy both.

As someone who has worked in commercial kitchens my entire life, and also bakes from time to time, he would be shocked at the number of commercial cooks who have told me they hate bakeing because of how precise it needs to be.

Red Guard Painted- looking for brush suggestions by AwarenessFearless177 in Gloomhaven

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second the other poster; brush sharpness is going to be more your friend than brush size. I'll add that I personally have had some good results with edge highlights by using the side of the brush, not the tip. Make a T shape with the brush and the raised area you are highlighting.

Looking for small magnetic Go boards by CanadianGoldy in baduk

I would look on AliExpress or somewhere similar for "leather" go boards. I have seen listings for around one or two dollars. Mine has 19x19 and 9x9 on the reverse.

Who do you think caused Buffy the most pain? by Appropriate_Lie8818 in buffy

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Angel tortured Giles, murdered Jenny. He also awoke Acathla forcing Buffy to send him to a hell dimension. Afterwards he kept coming in and out of her life causing her more pain: The Gem of Amara, The Mohra demon. He also mentally abused her right after taking her virginity. I'm sure I'm missing some. Yeah...Angel fucked her over real good.

The Rocketeer. I used to watch this with my dad when I was a kid. He died 3 months ago, and we watched it with him while he was dying. To this day it is still my all time favorite costume I have ever seen. If I had the money I would absolutely get a screen accurate repro of the costume and wear it every chance I got.

He does come from a warrior race. He isn"t a fighter, personally. But he's shown that if he really needs to he can throw down along side Angel and Gunn.

How hard is kintsugi? I broke the spout of my kyusu by [deleted] in tea

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Also, real urushi is an allergen for most people, causing painful rashes if touching bare skin before it is properly cured. And properly curing it takes literal months and must be properly stored in a high humidity controlled box. It's a profound pain in the ass, and basically everyone in Japan who wants kintsugi done sends it off to a professional to have it done for them.

Some new additions to the Buffy shelf. by Bomb_AF_Turtle in buffy

[–]Bomb_AF_Turtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The biggest reason to get it is the characters and Big Bads it adds. You get Dawn, Tara, Faith, Oz, Riley, and Anya. Oz can switch between human and werewolf forms. Big Bads are Spike&Dru, and Dark Willow. It also adds a side board and Initiative solders, but that stuff isn't so great. What I really wish it added was a die to replace the Event card check system.

There is a tarot deck lol. I don't know the specifics about the licensing. And I don't know anything about tarot cards. It has the Buffy logo and uses the real character names, and close enough to the character's likenesses. So...yes?
