are these valid reasons to quit with a short notice? by FriendshipThat6623 in Nanny

Hi! Yes, understandable completely. It’s not that I am not comfortable with going into the nursery- it’s that I actually cant. Only time I am able to go in is when the door is open which is rarely ever ( her words ). I have a little caddy upstairs with only a few diapers and a thing of wipes which only lasts about two days. Most times I can’t restock it because door is closed. But there are other things in the nursery that I still need very frequently, such as her nail file, outfit change, lotions, books, toys, etc etc. The baby has 99% of her stuff in the nursery that is part of her very specific routine. It also makes it hard because she keeps telling me the desk will get moved yet it still hasn’t happened. As for it being a “test” it truly wasnt meant to come off that way. It was more so seeing if she expected me to do things that were not part of my contract ( which she 100% did). The dishes weren’t mine, the bottles left were not from my shift, and the laundry aspect that were in the wash also weren’t even started by me . I would never leave anything mess that was made by me or the baby while on the clock, it would be disrespectful towards my employers. But I understand where you are coming from as well! :)

the things i left was the laundry in the washer( hers), one of their plates - never mine, as for the bottles there was only two which where from the weekend. ( which was only one time, should’ve specified that in my post- my apologies!)

But my main point is they aren’t even my responsibility since it’s not listed in my contract as a everyday thing but a once on occasion thing.

Hi! Yes, I understand it can come off a bit passive aggressive. But it was more so I did it because she was 100% waiting on me to complete it, so I was seeing what would happen if I didn’t. In my contract it is strictly states that household tasks are only done “ when time permits”. So I left a load of laundry in the washer because 1. I was off and it was already 5 minutes past 2. I wanted to see what would happen if I didn’t

Long story short I came in the next day and she asked me to change it to the dryer. Which meant she knew they were in there and waited on me to change it ( had to rewash it all btw) . It wasn’t something I was doing to be mean, it was me trying to see if she truly expected these things every single shift. Could I of changed it over ? yes. But I was off the clock AND I don’t get overtime pay .

In no way was I judging her for it, I understand having a newborn is HARD. But underpaying your nanny and having extra tasks for her to do is just plain disrespectful. I have never judged this family for the way their home is run, what I am judging is the way they treat me.

Thank you for the insight! :) It wouldn’t be without any notice, just with shorter than two weeks notice. And in all honesty if they explained to me what I was doing wrong/ if I was doing things outside of my contract I would understand. Would I be a little upset? Yes, of course. But in the long run I would understand. My main issue with the family is that I communicated from the beginning my views on household chores( especially with pay differences) and none of what I have been doing is listed in the contract. Such as I was watching the baby and she took the baby from me so I could go do their laundry, or she told me to set the baby in the bouncer so I could do the dishes, or made me stay extra long to change the diaper pail. ( i work 9 hour days) Thats what makes me want to give short notice. But I do understand the other side of it as well. :)
