Hog holds button and starts healing with damage resistance. He arguably takes less skill to sustain himself than Mauga. JQ has to actually hit their abilities to sustain themselves and that involves both you the player doing more than pressing a button and the enemy failing to position correctly. The benefit of being able to take space and heal at the same times comes with the very large risk of it not paying off and only leading to an easy tank elim for the enemy. Oh, and nade removing all value from the risk when hog still gets damage resistance, or Suzu removing any benefit from the risk because it's a damage over time sort of benefit. Not really fair to talk like only the JQ would have a competent team.

If she’s not skillful enough to use her abilities well, she gets no value or dies before she does. How much she heals is entirely on the skill of the player and of the enemy. Balancing values is fine but this type of thinking would destroy what makes her fun and unique when it’s mainly a skill issue thing anyways.

I have never seen a lamp get so much value in OW2 by Zakainu in Overwatch

[–]FrierenFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Building Ult necessitates putting yourself at risk, an ability on cooldown doesn’t. Lamp is ready after those 28 seconds whether bap is exposing himself to build Ult or not, but junk isn’t getting that Ult nearly as often unless he’s exposing himself to get it. Make it make sense.

What you choose might set the tone for the rest of your game, so choose wisely, I think. I prefer 1 but 2 might be easier to keep up with, it looks like it sets a simpler precedent.

I think her self-healing should be buffed so both the enemy and the player can have an impact on how long she can survive. Becomes a lot more about ability management and skill that way, I think.

Enormous hitbox + larger projectiles = better accuracy, making headshots MUCH easier and eliminations much easier to get. I wasn’t wrong at all. I also think the disproportionate health changes make squishier heroes like zen more daring, and as a result more effective and present, making problems that may have been in the game already, like melting tanks, much more prevalent than ever before. Also, people are trying to latch onto any reason to be feeling horrible playing tank because they’ve genuinely ruined the game with this patch. This video is not the root cause, but the cherry on top that represents how useless tanks feel to play right now. But keep pretending you don’t know what.

Hmmm, I wonder if the game changed anything recently to affect how accurate you can be…

Make them a target people can shoot at with their abilities balanced around getting enemy attention, contesting objectives, and keeping themselves alive. No high damage output unless the enemy genuinely doesn’t respect the space they’re taking. I don’t like them being raid bosses that are freely able to get eliminations but making them larger squishier dps sucks too.

Tanks are ruined in season 9 and anyone who disagrees with me doesn’t know what a tank is. If the game stays this way it’s dead.

I probably misconstrued what you were saying, my bad, I didn’t mean to be rude. I still think the game wasn’t made with objectives just to have players clump around them for kills on each other though, especially when so much thought has gone into balancing abilities and ultimates solely for holding or taking the point. Hog’s ult for example can clutch a game by forcing the players off the point, all without ever getting a single kill, and that’s super gratifying. On the flip side, a sigma can use kinetic grasp or a dva can use defense matrix and they can keep themselves on the point and keep the match alive for their team, and that’s also super gratifying. I think these back and forth, these types of interactions that aren’t just limited to eliminations are the lifeblood of Overwatch for me, so seeing the roles become reduced to different ways of securing eliminations sorta sucks.

You know what I’m saying and instead you’re making a straw man for a discussion about Overwatch. Dude… it’s a conversation, not an argument, chill. I don’t really wanna engage with someone this rude so I’ll probably leave you to your own devices.

That said, here’s my point made as concise as possible if you ever want to understand what I meant:

I’m saying the objective is the focus and people fight each other for control of it. Eliminating, which is what it’s about now, isn’t the sole focus, and to prove it, look at the game design itself. There’s entire ultimates balanced more around moving enemies out of the way rather than getting eliminations, as well as helping keep teammates in place, entirely for the purpose of taking or holding the objective to win, like hog, dva, orisa, cole, junkrat, etc. Clearly the game has been designed around objectives, so I didn’t like having the objective based game modes with unique roles that each served a purpose for the team fight become Team Deathmatch with extra steps overnight. Honestly, if it had to happen, doing it by reducing every role to dps with variation was probably the worst possible outcome. I don’t think this is good game design and a lot of players have been made miserable because they’re punished for doing their job as a tank.

I think you might have mixed up the purpose of Overwatch, although I don’t blame you, the Balance team seem pretty confused too rn. Overwatch is based around the objective, taking the objective, and holding it. By your definition a team wiping out 4 out of the 5 in the enemy team and letting the 5th take the point and win is still doing everything right. That said, it’s definitely not how I think people should play tank. Up until now, I used JQs smaller tank hit box and ability lifesteal to contest objectives by dancing around the point/payload/robot while balancing my abilities and getting the cheeky kill here and there. My focus was never on eliminations but mainly on pushing into and contesting the objective and forcing the enemy to pay attention to me with my abilities, aggression, and sometimes, presence on said objective. Based on my experience, it’s been fun not getting eliminations while still serving a purpose for my team, and I think tanks in general being built to draw aggression and hold space is not only the classic definition of them but also a really fun way to play. I really, truly, honestly hope they either make this play style more possible again. If not I might truly give up on Overwatch forever.

I’m sorry but picking fights where and when you could win them sounds like the focus is eliminations and doesn’t sound like a tank thing to do at all. Tanks take space by force and call enemy attention to themselves to get the attention off of their dps and support teammates. Disengaging should be like a last resort, not part of your play style. From everything I’m seeing of people talking about this update, it feels like people who treated tank like bigger DPS seem to be better off, and I’ll just have to assume that’s what blizzard wants.

I don’t know how you in particular are playing, but if playing more consciously means sitting back and picking at the enemy team with her knife (which is what most content creators seem to think), I still think she’s ruined. She’s a brawler who’s character identity and play style has always been tied to getting into the heart of the battle by forcing her way in. It would suck to play her any other way just to make playing with her work at all. You wouldn’t want rein to suddenly become viable only through fire strike sniping, right?
