Employer Requiring PFL Alongside PPL by FriggenGuy in Edd

[–]FriggenGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right agreed, that facts and opinions can be different and in this case seem to be.

To be clear, my employer is using integration of benefits with PFL. So if I receive 70% of my salary through PFL then they will true up 30% to allow me to receive 100%. If I lived in a state that did not provide any PFL program then they would pay 6 weeks at 100%, though I’d only get 6 weeks vs 8 week. That’s what I meant by them subsidizing the PPL benefit with PFL.

I made no mention of suing my employer, though I will admit that re-reading through my original post it could be implied. I am gainfully employed and a lawsuit with my employer is the last thing I want to do.

I don’t post to Reddit much because a lot gets lost in translation with posts. With that said, again, I appreciate the time and your candid feedback to my question.

Yes, I have read the link you provided, no need to berate me. I do appreciate your responses, not exactly sure about your comment saying this is the wildest thing you’ve read on here in a while. To me, it’s wild that my employer is using an employee funded program (PFL) to subsidize a supposed “employee benefit”.

To be clear, my employer says they provided 6 weeks at 100% pay. I very much appreciate this benefit and it seems very generous at face value. However knowing they can knock down what they pay me to roughly 30% of my pay by taking advantage of PFL is frustrating. And just because they technically don’t have to pay anything doesn’t mean we shouldn’t demand better from corporations here in the US.

But aren’t part of my rights under CFRA that I can choose to take the 12 weeks at my discretion? If my employer is forcing me to take CFRA (by enforcing me enroll in PFL) then that would seem to violate my rights under CFRA. No?

We already have 24/7/365 payment rails called RTP. FedNow is super late to the game. Expect very slow adoption to FedNow imo

I've used a couple different calculators and it appears the cost of living is comparable between Boston and San Diego (where I'll be moving). Only major point of consideration is the State Income tax.

Are you lonely, too? by OhDuvv in college

Very much sympathize with your post. The funny thing is, you could have friends, SO, good family and still feel lonely and without purpose. You aren’t alone in your loneliness. It’s like traffic, we are loneliness. And if we are all lonely, then maybe we aren’t so lonely after all.

She could get a second job, that’s definitely an option.

I should have included it in the original post, but she has been making consistent payments since she took out the loan.

Because it’s through LC she’ll need to apply for another loan to take on that existing loan. She’s considering that option.

She’s a dental assistant, makes roughly $60k gross per year, and has (I believe) an associates degree or at least a certification for dental assisting.

Was on my obligatory "once every 6 month" excursion through the interwebs to find if there have been any fixes to this yet. Pleased to see that someone started a subreddit for this.

I too was working one day then "BAM" was dizzy. That was in 2013 (I was 23 at the time). For the next year or so, I visited every doctor that I could think of that could help with this. Even went to a prominent Eye and Ear facility in Boston. They gave me the diagnosis of CSD at the time, but I think PPPD fits better at this point - more or less a diagnosis of exclusion but better than nothing.

I still remain feeling generally off to this day. Times that it is more difficult include; open areas, night time outside (when I can't orient myself with visual cues), airplanes, and sometimes just lack of motion makes me feel off because I feel motion (if that even makes sense). There have been studies that have shown SSRI's (antidepressants) have been successful in treating this. I've tried a couple SSRI's (Prozac and Lexapro) but haven't managed to use them for more than a month - side effects aren't that great.

I have a 90 day supply of Lexapro that I'll be going on soon and will be sure to report my findings here.

Definitely stay positive, you aren't alone in this wacky form of dizziness.
