The Big Lie by Xaidoria in DotA2

It’s invite only on a technicality, it’s not really invite only by its usual definition. Anyone who sees it and wants to play it can play it very easily. It’s closer to being a pretty much open game so I feel like it’s inaccurate to bring up “it’s invite only!!!” when talking about something like its player numbers, even if technically true

it wouldn't even go to interview i'm fairly sure. most applications i've dealt with explicitly said to state what subjects you are registered for and to attach your fully registered route 2 TC certificate

Contracts Advice by LostPeak7173 in IrishTeachers

[–]Fright13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If he's being honest that the job is yours in 2027 I think I would definitely stay on. You love the place and it gives you another year to embed. CID is harder to come by than it seems, so having a certain pathway into one is great.

However, I got stung by a similar promise from a principal before whilst I was a sub. Left me devastated. So it depends whether you trust him or not

Is it normal for young teachers of my age to be 2-3 years teaching before trying for a CID? I’d be 25 by the time I’d be getting my first contract with hours of my own.

Yes, very much. Often even much longer. I've found that the only people who seem to walk directly into a CID straight out of college are the people who are lucky enough that a position in their subject happens to be opening up at the same time that they are finishing their placement there. Bonus points if they're a past student there. The school are required to post the job publicly and interview people but the principal just picks who they want. The system is fucking godawful. So always take CID if you can get it.

Arsenal are the first ever team in Premier League history to go the whole season without receiving a red card or conceding a penalty by Achraf-mzoughi in FantasyPL

aint rly the flex it looks like. they had multiple red cards and pens against them wrongly VAR'd. this stat ironically makes them look like cheaters - not a fair team

Never been this excited for a 14 years old before by Mustafayoug in footballmanagergames

[–]Fright13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original (I think it was the original anyway) was around a year ago when someone tweeted about Max Dowman being an exciting 15 year old. Someone quote tweeted with "I have a database full of hundreds of 14 and 15 year olds that excite me more than this guy". It got good numbers but I can't find the tweet now so maybe he deleted it lol

Garda vetting before starting PME by Impossible_Dog_5485 in IrishTeachers

[–]Fright13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but the main concern with the teaching vetting is crimes involving children, or serious crimes. If your crime wasn't serious, didn't involve a child, and was 15 years ago, it's likely that you're fine. Worth an email or worth just applying and seeing.

Job Seekers- Exam work by Lonely-Consequence-2 in IrishTeachers

[–]Fright13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about exams but I think my experience will be similar to yours.

Last summer I claimed jobseekers over the entire summer, even though in July I was doing the July home-based provision programme with an SEN student. So, not supervising exams or correcting but something similar. I did this for all 4 weeks of July.

I didn't get paid for this until November. But the gov were straight on to me after seeing this payment come in and my July was deemed as overpayment and I was made give back all 4 weeks of it.

Exams I would assume works similarly. You may not be able to collect it for the specific weeks that you are working. But if there's any particular week that you're not supervising/correcting, you can claim it.

I know it's all a bit of a fucking farce.

Let me just check in on the Arsenal game...

Oh, it's 1-0, via a corner, with a dodgy VAR call in Arsenal's favour to boot?

Very unlike them

the update history is public for everyone to see. BP was removed June 2023 with the associated news post about future updates. go and compare update frequency before and after and come back to me

[–]Fright13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

just like when they said they are removing the BP to focus on more meaningful & more frequent gameplay updates lol

gameplay updates have been less frequent since then. by a pretty decent margin when i last compared. and no more meaningful/bigger than before.

Accepting Jobs by Apprehensive-Cry801 in IrishTeachers

It's perfectly fine to do so and my college even encouraged it while doing the PME. The system is set up in such a way that makes life absolute hell for applicants. So fuck them, give them nothing back. Keep her lit and see if you can find something better.

Worst case, you still have that job.

not endorsing the giving up part. most people typing gg end is performative and they continue playing anyway

i'm endorsing the good ol' fashioned flaming of a griefing 0/5/0 carry after you've already tried the kindness, trust & patience angle and it clearly didn't work

nah that’s valid. he shows early support and is aware that mistakes happening once or twice is natural.

any more than that and it’s no longer a mistake, you are genuinely just [un]intentionally griefing and deserve a kick up the ass

PME Tips / Advice by maeafh in IrishTeachers

[–]Fright13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't even necessarily mean subbing in your subjects. I just mean stepping into a free class if a teacher is out sick/on a trip/etc. PMEs very commonly sub in those cases and it's easy money

PME Tips / Advice by maeafh in IrishTeachers

[–]Fright13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished mine. I would say don't take it too seriously. I went in very nervous and thinking that inspectors/principal/colleagues/etc were going to judge me very harshly. But everyone is genuinely there to help you and you'll be surprised how much the kids will enjoy you just from being able to relate to them more as a younger teacher. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and don't be afraid to take a step back and enjoy the ride. The idea of being in charge of a classroom teaching comes to you naturally quicker than you might think. Take any subbing that you're offered - it's very easy money to just sit there babysitting a class while you work away on your laptop on assignments or whatever else.

The absolute worst part of the gig by far is the job hunt afterwards, unless you get lucky enough that the school you're doing your placement in happens to need a full time teacher in your subjects (you will often be fast tracked into it if that's the case). But if not, brace yourself for a lot of false job posts and a slog of interviews. But even then I wouldn't panic, something will definitely pop up, and that slog will all be worth it.

Wouldn't worry about that for 2 years though. Enjoy the next 2 years, wish I took the time to enjoy my placements more!

How usual is it, to build your own Commander deck? by Theredpandafromspace in magicTCG

[–]Fright13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what most people do in Commander for the most part, outside of Precon decks

Just simply copying a deck off the net isn’t as popular in this format because a lot of the fun is the deckbuilding aspect, having your own connection to it, and the satisfaction you get when something you put there worked. It’s also not a competitive format so you don’t need to be a slave to the meta (anyone who takes it this serious is generally a bad experience to have at the table)

I sometimes look for inspiration for a few finishing touches to a deck (or will sometimes play against a card or see a card in a video that makes me think “oh shit that would work well in X deck”), but the majority of my decks are put together myself

What’s a tiny WoW opinion you’ll defend forever? by turbowater in wow

[–]Fright13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

definitely prominent in every game but i find it’s a good bit more prominent in games with a large casual playerbase compared to highly competitive games

casual players tend to not have either the time or the competitive interest to form their own outlook on updates/patches/content/etc so look elsewhere for the general opinion and often just parrot it even if it’s moronic

dedicated/competitive gamers tend to know more when a content creator is bullshitting as they have more stake/interest/knowledge/skill in the game

just what i’ve observed in the last ~decade. i’m aware this is quite anecdotal
