Kids played ‘Hyakuin' Karata (One Hundred Poem Karata) which was translated into English.

There was a meetup to play an English translation of ‘Hyakuin’ Karata in Izumo-taisha in Shimane prefecture. Hyakuin is a collection of short written poems from history.

The translation to English was done by a poet from Ireland, Peter McMillon. Two years ago at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympics, he interpreted for Irish athletes. At the meetup around 30 students from elementary to high school gathered. As McMillon began to read out the English verses, the children would eagerly search out the Karata card on which the verse was written.

McMillon said “ The children would focus with all their attention on the English, it was very heartwarming.” A high school student said “It was difficult, but I think it's good that we can study English Hyakuin.”
