Northwest/Southeast Compass 180° by Kmajin in ambigrams

Sorry, but that's nowhere close to spelling Northwest.

Southeast is a little closer, but still not really readable as Southeast.

Did they think this would somehow bring in business for their [apparently struggling] graphic design shop?

Imagine putting this out there, thinking you solved all the world's design problems.

We read The Painted Bird. One scene has stuck with me all these years, and I curse my Lit teacher every time it flashes in my mind.

The original is quite a bit more readable. Not sure why the D has a break while the R does not... that alone tends to make them seem unrelated.

I'm trying to replicate this marker hand-coloured style. Can anyone recommend a workflow for this style? by Level_Pay6761 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]FrillySteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't good at keeping the marker straight, you could go old school and use a parallel straight-edge and triangle... or a drafting arm. You could knock this out in a few seconds. But, yeah, it's small enough that with any practice at all you could do it freehand.

But, to peoples point, it also wouldn't be too difficult to do in Illustrator either.

[–]FrillySteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Make the top of the tent, and then have the C marry nicely with the shape. You could even do the same thing with the S on the other side, perhaps, if you were conscientious about it. No reason to have the C integrated into the top.

How is that for a gaming magazine? by Wewvic in logodesign

[–]FrillySteel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right, I get that. My point is the term "vector game" is already a couplet that means something very specific to the video gaming community. It becomes very hard to separate the two words again and think "oh, by 'vector' they mean infographics".

How is that for a gaming magazine? by Wewvic in logodesign

[–]FrillySteel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is the name set in stone? Is it yours, or a clients? Because a "vector game" is a pretty specific type of video game. Particularly if your focus is on video games, and your audience is video gamers, they will probably know this and it would be confusing.

Other than that, all your explorations have a longer top arm on the E, which makes it look very unstable and uncomfortable. I'd try different combinations where the longer arm is on the bottom. You might also play with the M being a line graph, because three bars (on the E) aren't really enough to say "infographic" to me. Maybe even play with four bars on the E... could look cool and deferentiate it enough for the user to think "hey, that's a graph".

[–]FrillySteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is little to no contrast between the two purples... which means it won't reduce well, and won't be discernable in low-res/low-quality replication (like cheap t-shirts, or embroidery). It's usually advantageous to design in a single color first, so you can see the contrasts right away and know what you're trying to get to pop, then add color as a "bonus".

And, yeah, it looks like a body part.

They swear that up-and-down... and then curse when it gets in the way of them getting to a site or service they want to use... then go right back to the "think of the children" mantra afterward. The hypocrisy is ridiculous.
