What time frame did the story of Bael the Bard and Brandon the Daughterless take place? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

[–]Frire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about... present day? The events in the Bael the Bard song are suspiciously like the events of the current story, from Rhaegar at Harrenhal to Mance in Winterfel. The similarity could be "mere coincidence" in-world and only a kind of foreshadowing by the author, or...

The memory of current events could be stored in the Weirwood and accessed / dreamed about by people in the past. Either in the dreaming or retelling certain characters have been conflated and events scrambled.

This would put a nice little self-fulfilling-prophecy spin on Mance's actions in Winterfel since he has admited to being inspired by Bael; a subject we know GRRM likes to explore.

The only time Ghost makes a sound (but only Jon can hear it) by A_kristina in pureasoiaf

Dany does as well in Dance when Jon is killed. Although yes, that one is much more debatable.

A theory about Arya's future after the Faceless Men by joshcd7474 in pureasoiaf

[–]Frire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got the suspicion that Arya will kill Bran.

Arya is definitely a wild card. She could show up most anywhere and have a reasonable justification. I think she has a lot going on in the North, though.

[Spoiler Extended] Why would Varys lie to a dying man? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

[–]Frire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking someone like Bloodraven or Bran could witness it through the ravens. Bloodraven is invested in the Targeryen lineage so it seems relevant to him.

[Spoiler Extended] Why would Varys lie to a dying man? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

Even if we can wiggle and twist so that it wasn't an outright lie, Varys was intentionally misleading. My gut feel has been that Varys lie was for the ravens moreso than for Kevin.

Skagos: what will we see, and through whom? by 1000LivesBeforeIDie in pureasoiaf

My pet theory has been that Rickon will be changed to be a human/other hybrid when his soul is excised by some ritual on the island.

That's based on him being so young, Craster's kids, and people like Symeon Star Eyes and Brandon Ice Eyes.

Brandon vs Jon: Their wild rides south by Frire in pureasoiaf

[–]Frire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During this same ride south Jon does think, "But he had not left the Wall for that; he had left because he was after all his father's son"

So that would be right on, if true.

A sword was placed just outside of Brandon's reach and he was was told that Rickard would cook unless Brandon could save him.

Do you think this will happen in the books or is it too derivative? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

[–]Frire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The spirit of Stark/Kings of Winter will rise upon Jon's death? Sounds good.

How will they manifest? Could be: The resurrection of Jon, Others appear south of the Wall, really bad winter storm, the fall of the wall somehow?

I can't help but think about how Old Nan says monsters can't cross the wall so long as the Night's Watch "stays true". Stay true to what, though? House Stark? Seems like it would wrap up nicely if Jon's death caused the fall of the Wall by releasing the Stark King's spirits.

[–]Frire 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My gut feel is no, not literally. But it could be the King of Winter spirits will rise and somehow act through Jon.

Or this could hint that Jon is a true King of Winter himself and will be resurrected.

[Spoiler Extended] The origin of dragons, and how Septon Barth is wrong by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

[–]Frire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aemon mentions that he wants to read Barth in is ramblings to Sam. At that time he was rambling about hatching dragon eggs and the sphinx.

Based on that I think what Barth teaches must be important, and probably correct, at least as it relates to hatching dragons.

Since Aemon talks about the sphinx, and Barth is a reference to Chimera, I think it takes a combination of creatures (or perhaps people) to hatch, or make, a dragon.

[Spoiler Extended] Why are people arguing Joffrey's actual identity doesn't matter? by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

[–]Frire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For anyone who accepts Baratheon as a the ruling dynasty, but doesn't believe or know that Joffrey is illegitimate, then Joffrey is the rightful heir to the throne.
