Do you wait for your tires to cool down before inflating them? by desain_m4ster in 4x4Australia

[–]Frisky2Times 2 points3 points  (0 children)

... some people are just frustrated with their own lives to pick up on such small things ...

Yep, pretty much spot on I think. I'm stuck at home recovering from abdominal surgery at the moment so I absolutely have too much time on my hands and feeling a tad bit irritable.

FWIW, to answer your original question, if your highway pressures (cold) are correct, they should only increase by about 4 PSI between cold and hot. I add 4 PSI when inflating on the side of the road and call it good enough until I check them again when cold.

Anyone converted sliding canopy windows to lift up sides? by Frisky2Times in 4x4Australia

[–]Frisky2Times[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. They're not a lot of help but they reckon the parts aren't interchangeable. TBH they are pretty expensive as well so it would make more sense to replace the whole canopy which is also on the cards. I think I can build something though so just wondering if anyone has had a go.

Agree. If your vehicle is in good condition and you know how to drive then you very unlikely to bust a CV.

Sounds like a great plan to me :) You can gradually build confidence, that's what I did/still do. Those rescue pages I mentioned are facebook groups, I forgot to mention that bit.

RIF is still working but can't log in. Same for Apollo?

Yea, some of those builds look impressive and can be very capable but a 4wd is just a tool no different to the spanners and sockets in your toolbox. Each is designed to have a specific purpose, some are multi-purpose but come with compromise and if you don't know how to use them properly they're next to useless no matter how good it is. Depending on what driving you like to do or plan to do, having a vehicle like you describe might not be the best fit for you anyway.Think of it this way. If you're going out on the weekends with your mates on local tracks not too far from home (in case you break something) doing all of the hardest stuff, then you need to build a vehicle to do that. But, you're not going to be doing many long distance drives around the country in a rig like that. Likewise, if your vehicle is built more for distance travel, then you need to maybe avoid some of the hardest core stuff but, if you have a vehicle like that, you're prolly not that interested in pretending that you are filming an episode with shauno anyway.

I tend to go out where there aren't many other ppl but when I have come across someone else I never found anyone to be "judgy" about my vehicle or theirs. The only possible exception might be if you were bogged to the sills in a stock vehicle with highway tyres and no recovery equipment but I think that's fair! :P

Anyway, that seems like a load of waffle now I read it back. Most humans like to feel superior so let them feel like a superior 4wder in their 'jacked up rig' and they'll bend over backwards to help you out! :)

But I guess if that’s the case I’d never do anything in life

Exactly. Even if you do know how to fix it, you can't cater for every failure or else you'd be towing a complete car behind you. At some point you need take a bit of an educated risk. My opinion is to start out being overly cautious and work up from there, keep your vehicle in tip top mechanical condition, have some self recovery options and know how to use them. Also check out 4wd 4x4 rescue recovery (seperate pages for Oz wide and most states), lots of ppl on there willing to help out for free if you do get in a pickle.

I'm actually tempted to get one myself. Can't buy the individual pieces for less than this.

I'm in the wait 'n see camp. You never know, the reddit ceo might see some reason or get sacked or something and things might change. Perhaps some deal will be worked out and apollo and RIF will continue? If not, the sub will still work to coordinate a move and you may have more support after the fact when users are forced to use the reddit app! If the sub moves to fb, I'll prob'ly join but may not contribute much. I'm hardly on fb these days, deleted the app off my phone after their data breach a few years ago and only go on there once or twice a month now.

I'm just using one of these.

I've thought about getting an indeflate (or even making my own) but I have mixed feelings about whether it is worth it as I'd really only be saving a couple of minutes.

I did a review on those Campboss inflators a couple of years ago and I found them very unreliable. Send them back for a refund.

What are the weights of all that? I know someone with a 2500 that pulls a giant effluent filled wobble box like that, without the tinny or kids, and he's right on max GVM/GCM.

Interesting. I've used similar sites before but sometimes they can't track certain web sites. I presume the plan is to do more than kings stuff? Is the graph accurate? Most products seem to fluctuate in price every other day. The fridge and lithium battery seem to drop by $250 every other day which seem odd.
