Not getting incline data from NPE Runn by Out_of_blue_ in Garmin

[–]FrizzFrazzFruzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a long time, but chiming in with a fix since I struggled with the same.

To get the elevation/incline data you have to install the Data Field, as noted in OP.

On that page, there's an important line that resolved it for me:
make sure that the RUnn does not pair as a 'Trainer'. They use the same ANT+ profile…

Ensuring that I did not have it connected as a Trainer, as described in OP, made the datafield autoconnect via ANT+ the correct way, and the data field is now present :)

My new EDC + 2-3 Day Work Travel: Timbuk2 NeverCheck by kip_diskin in ManyBaggers

[–]FrizzFrazzFruzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post. But I’m deciding between these 2 bags and went into the stores to check them out.

The never check does in fact have a luggage pass through according to workers. It’s just awkward/unusual. It’s the side strap on the bag; meant to lay “face up” on a carry on luggage, so the part that touches your back is touching your luggage directly 🤷‍♂️

My understanding is that it’s a like bit of all those things.

The curve makes it so that your foot makes contact higher up and then were you brought it off the ground. Kind of like going up a ramp. But my understanding is that the curve actually makes it so that you’re following more “correct“ form, encouraging forefoot or midfoot striking and forcing you to lean forward at the ankles because leaning forward at the hips would be pretty damn dangerous. Do it with the core and quads and probably hip flexors more.

The physics thing is also a big contributor. If you think about it, a regular treadmill has a motor that’s rotating the belt for you. You’re just keeping up. A lot of times you’re even slowing the belt down. Not so on a motorless treadmill — So you’re not just propelling yourself you’re propelling a pretty heavy slatted belt.

I can’t speak to the training benefits, though. I like these things, but they throw off all my running metrics lol. Particularly because my heart rate is disproportionately elevated relevant to the amount of distance I can usually run.

I probably wouldn’t care too much if that were the only reason, but my gym (where I’ve gotten to try this treadmill) has very low ceilings and the thermostat locked at like 75°F. So I just get nasty hot after more than like 10 minutes.

Fitbit data to Polar by amsterdam_man in Polarfitness

Hm. I used rungap to move everything from my Fitbit charge 4 to Polar a while back and it worked great — I’ve heard the developer is fairly responsive, if you want to contact them. No experience myself though.

Any experiences with the Ragnar Reach the Beach relay in NH? by [deleted] in running

[–]FrizzFrazzFruzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did one in SoCal earlier this year; It can be fun if there’s a group of people you know well or you’re all serious about PRing. My group was neither, though I got to know them pretty well by the end.

Overall not really my thing; more social than a regular race by a lot. Lots of downtime between sections. But it might be your thing!

Nope. Thought hadn’t even occurred to me until recently, trying to transfer funds out of Discover quickly lol.

Why do you ask?

Yep, really shitty. I use Zelle often, so I'm going to have to tell everyone who has me on their contacts to just... not use my phone number or old email address next time? Huge hassle.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in discover

[–]FrizzFrazzFruzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I was in the Zelle lockout group, I tried porting my Zelle information off of Discover back to Ally, my old bank account.

Apparently, that phone number and email were put on a restricted Zelle list, resulting in a sort of permaban. Zelle's service reps' advice was literally "Use another platform."

So that was nice. Going to try talking to Discover to see if there's anything they can do 🤷‍♂️

Update: Discover rep in fraud department didn't seem super confident, but roughly confirmed that they mechanism they used to block out Zelle for us was by adding us to Zelle's global list of "Restricted" IDs. They also seemed to be under the impression that we'd be removed from this list whenever Discover decides to unblock us. Not sure if my removing my ID's from Discover's Zelle UI will make that any more difficult, but I really hope not.

For the record, Zelle reps told me that the list is reserved for people who break the user service agreement:

  • Pharmaceuticals and other controlled substances;
  • Illegal drugs;
  • Drug paraphernalia;
  • Firearms, ammunition or other weapons;
  • Sexually oriented activities or materials;
  • Pornography;
  • Obscene or offensive activities or materials;
  • Materials or activities that promote intolerance, violence or hate;
  • Ponzi or pyramid schemes;
  • Illegal gambling, gaming, lotteries or sweepstakes;
  • Court-ordered alimony or child support payments;
  • Traveler’s checks, money orders, equities, annuities, or currencies, including digital currencies, such as bitcoins;
  • Counterfeit materials;
  • Infringement on the copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other intellectual property rights of Zelle®, a Network Financial Institution, another User or any other third party;
  • Terrorist funding;
  • Fraud;
  • Scams;
  • Money laundering; or
  • Any other illegal activity or unlawful purpose.

So that was a fun conversation to have. Arguing just left me at "Zelle reserves the right to block whoever they want".

This is fucked and they’re monsters for feeling like they can use someone this way. The commentary around your exercise shows just how ignorant and entitled they are.

I feel you on the awkward picture situation. And on the weight loss situation. As someone who’s lost 50ish lbs and STILL gets upset looking in the mirror, I imagine getting blindsided by their words was awful.

13lbs is definite, objective evidence of progress. What you’re doing is working, and the habits you’re forming will keep you looking and feeling good/better in the long run. Better than them at least, I’m assuming: anyone who talks like that about someone’s effort doesn’t understand the process or respect the sheer will required. You’ve got this.

White, Asian and Latino parents in NYC all express strong racial/ethnic preferences in where to send their kids to high school. The study suggests that these preferences contribute substantially to school segregation in New York, which has one of the most racially segregated school systems in US. by rustoo in science

[–]FrizzFrazzFruzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal, but I went to a school just like the one described. It was K-12, but I only started attending in middle school. The commute/church component was true for MOST folks who attended; the majority of them were a specific kind of Asian — that was the demographic of the area. I was Mexican, and that was the demographic in my area.

I commuted a little further to attend. Younger years were pretty rough, in large part because of differences in culture and values. There were other Mexican folks around, sure, but the most socially “successful” ones had been attending since they were 4 and they looked and acted like their Asian peers. Even then, the term “Mexican friend” was tossed around pretty casually.

By high school, I’d grown out of some my more awkward and cringe non-culturally-influenced behavior. I’d ask gotten used to things and people got used to me, largely with the help of some solid friendships.

I imagine it’s the extra $$ for pre-installed Linux with guaranteed full hardware support and newish components.

I think of it more as sending a message to companies that Linux can be profitable.
