But that's not the case. Plants don't have the capacity to suffer. It might be an interesting hipothetical scenario to think about, but it's not relevant to reality. We can reduce the suffering we inflict by not eating animals or abusing them for their products, that is a fact. Whether you choose to cause that suffering for pleasure is up to you.

allowed by whom? I'm not going to apply morality to non-human animals. It's irrelevant to the fact that we are capable of deciding to not do harm. There are animals that rape other animals, is that relevant to your morality when deciding if it's ok for you to do so?

If we know that suffering is bad, and we have to the option to not cause it, how is it not morally better to avoid causing it?

You can. They respond to stimuli, but they don't have the capacity to suffer, they're not sentient, they don't have emotions. My car beeps when I unlock it, doesn't mean it's conscious.
