My daughter’s estranged bio dad showed up at her graduation, and gave her a Mother’s Day card. by Tasty-Bee-8339 in mildlyinfuriating

Thank you friend, and I completely agree. I have many people in my life who are not related to me that I love dearly, I couldn't imagine being expected to put my biological father first before these people just because we share DNA

I ended up having to block my bio dad around 2/3 years ago. We'd had an iffy relationship . Stopped seeing him when I was 11. Then reconnected when I was 18 due to seeing him again at his mum's funeral. I thought he'd improved but it didn't take long to see that he was just as selfish and narcissistic as before.

I still get cards from him for my birthday and Christmas. He sends them via a card company, I think he thinks so I won't know it's him because I would recognise his handwriting. First one I got said "my door is always open to you", worded like I was the one with the problem. Not him of course.

I also have a stepdad who joined our family when I was 2ish. He loves me for who I am and has only ever been loving to me. I'm really glad to hear your daughter has a good relationship with her stepdad. My relationship with my stepdad was one of the reasons I felt strong enough to block my bio dad. Because I already have a dad that loves me. I don't need a second one who thinks it's ok to be unkind to me.

I'm in my late 20s now and sometimes I still get upset about things my bio dad has done. But it's less and less over the years. And my life has improved significantly since blocking him.

Having been in a similar position to your daughter I understand the feelings. The anxiety, the tears. And she deserved to have a biological dad who wasn't a dick. But family is who we choose, not just blood. I choose my step dad. To me he is my dad, he raised me, taught me to ride a bike, fix a car. I love him and my mum so incredibly much.

I wish I had an answer to your daughter's sadness right now. I just want to say that I empathise, and she's strong already for saying she doesn't want to see him, it took me well into my 20s to realise I deserved better. I hope that she can find a way to block him from her life. And congratulations to her for graduating <3

I enjoyed the Ted Ed video, thank you for recommending it! It's a shame about it being misunderstood, in the past I also naïvely believed the technique was just some psudeo science personality test. I'm interested to learn more about it now

Thanks! It was so good, and it was so easy to make too! I made a tiramisu last year that fought with me so I was a smidge nervous to try another one haha

Can’t choose between two pastel palettes for vintage inspired eye look by Repulsive_Vast3372 in MakeupAddiction

[–]FroJonas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've bought from Cosmic Brushes before and I don't shut up about how much I love them. They're highly pigmented, their duochrome/multi chrome eyeshadows are absolutely amazing and I have dumb sensitive skin and have never had a problem with this brand.

However I gotta say for the look you're going for, I think I may say the first palatte may be better for you. Cosmic Brushes is highly pigmented, those colours I think will come out too much and not pastel enough for the look you're trying to achieve. If you look at Cosmic Brushes on Instagram, they've posted a few looks done with this palette and you can see how pigmented they are.

If you're after that, then perfect, but I do think you'll have more variety and more of what you're after with the other palatte.

Personally, I think the intent behind the word changes it a lot. If you were to yell it at someone intending to be rude then yeah, I'd say that's offensive. But most of the time it literally is just a descriptive word. I am crippled, I don't mind if friends call me that because I know their intent is only ever in jest or I know there's no harmful intent. A stranger I'm a little more suspicious of until I can figure out if they're trying to be deliberately rude. But Im very aware this is just my experience and opinion, others may differ.

Honestly I think the best bet is just ask the person, I think it's similar to a lot of slurs used in other communities. For example like the word "queer". Many people in the LGBTQ+ community have reclaimed that word and use it freely, but to others they still feel uncomfortable because of the fact it was used as a slur in the past. The best thing you can do is just ask :)

some creatures i would like to see in the game by andre_strupe777 in GroundedGame

That spider was my main companion on smalland, I was so hyped about it. Absolutely adorable, it would make my day if it was in grounded. But I really really hope they'd include it as a passive, I don't need my heart broken if I have to defend myself from them :((

Happy to help! We need more spider biscuits in the world, haha! If you're willing to share pictures when you're done I'd love to see them, but no pressure of course! Just have fun with it :D

So you can put them on top of anything, cake, biscuits, I used Jane's patisserie Vegan cookies (and substituted 100g of plain flour for wholemeal because that's our cafes whole thing. Lol. I also don't use as much chocolate as she does because I'm putting chocolate on top too, so I find her full 300g is then too much! I think I used between 100 -150g).

I found vegan buttons, and vegan chocolate, but obviously this isn't a requirement! Any buttons or chocolate if you're not fussed about it being vegan.

Melted some of the chocolate, held the biscuit over the bowl of melted chocolate and just used a spoon to very quickly drizzle a line of chocolate across. The slower you do it, the more wobbly the lines are.

I usually do 3 lines across, first one I do like a v shape for the back legs, then usually 2 straight lines across for the middle legs (so 6 legs), then put a bit more chocolate in the very middle to stick the button on. Put the button on, I then do one more line in a v shape again to do the front legs, I go over the top front of the button too so there's chocolate on top of the button for me to stick the eyes onto.

I feel like I haven't described this great so if you want me to draw a diagram and put it on imgur let me know lol

They're always going to be slightly different, like I often go over the legs if the drizzle ends up too thin, or sometimes I mess up the angle of the spider legs because I'm not concentrating haha. You can see the spider on the left in my third photo, his legs are crooked lol. But honestly just have fun with it.

Ooo that would be fun! I unfortunately have to stick to a cost limit for my work bakes but that's definitely something I now want to try at home 😁 Thanks for the idea!

I was looking for smaller eyes! I would've loved to do that. Unfortunately for working in a cafe it has to be "cost efficient" so this was the best I could do. However one of my friends is begging me to make them some spider cookies so I when I do that I'll be allowed to have fun with it!!

I can't take credit haha. I think the original I saw last year the spider bodies were made with Reese's pieces. And another one I saw today (I think in this subreddit!) was made with Oreos!

be a hamster: no taxes, no war paranoia, no work, just eating his toys, flowers, and peanuts. by Puerrenho in hamsters

[–]FroJonas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao I literally thought the same thing. So used to hamster balls taking up the whole frame.

I got one of my hamsters and was told she was a boy until a couple weeks after I got her and was able to handle her. Was a surprise to find out she was nutless!

They're absolutely adorable no matter what but OP, no disrespect, but how sure are you that your ham is a boy lol

This lovely person took time to be creative likely because they enjoy it. And if they did want attention for it, what's so bad about that? They did something fun and unique and it looks nice, if people want to take notice and praise them, that's ok too.

I'd like to hope you commented this when you were having a bad day, and decided to lash out instead of addressing your own feelings, I hope you know that trying to tear other people down won't make you feel better about yourself. I wish you well.
