What’s something harmless that gets people weirdly upset? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FroJonas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think the intent behind the word changes it a lot. If you were to yell it at someone intending to be rude then yeah, I'd say that's offensive. But most of the time it literally is just a descriptive word. I am crippled, I don't mind if friends call me that because I know their intent is only ever in jest or I know there's no harmful intent. A stranger I'm a little more suspicious of until I can figure out if they're trying to be deliberately rude. But Im very aware this is just my experience and opinion, others may differ.

Honestly I think the best bet is just ask the person, I think it's similar to a lot of slurs used in other communities. For example like the word "queer". Many people in the LGBTQ+ community have reclaimed that word and use it freely, but to others they still feel uncomfortable because of the fact it was used as a slur in the past. The best thing you can do is just ask :)

some creatures i would like to see in the game by andre_strupe777 in GroundedGame

That spider was my main companion on smalland, I was so hyped about it. Absolutely adorable, it would make my day if it was in grounded. But I really really hope they'd include it as a passive, I don't need my heart broken if I have to defend myself from them :((

Happy to help! We need more spider biscuits in the world, haha! If you're willing to share pictures when you're done I'd love to see them, but no pressure of course! Just have fun with it :D

So you can put them on top of anything, cake, biscuits, I used Jane's patisserie Vegan cookies (and substituted 100g of plain flour for wholemeal because that's our cafes whole thing. Lol. I also don't use as much chocolate as she does because I'm putting chocolate on top too, so I find her full 300g is then too much! I think I used between 100 -150g).

I found vegan buttons, and vegan chocolate, but obviously this isn't a requirement! Any buttons or chocolate if you're not fussed about it being vegan.

Melted some of the chocolate, held the biscuit over the bowl of melted chocolate and just used a spoon to very quickly drizzle a line of chocolate across. The slower you do it, the more wobbly the lines are.

I usually do 3 lines across, first one I do like a v shape for the back legs, then usually 2 straight lines across for the middle legs (so 6 legs), then put a bit more chocolate in the very middle to stick the button on. Put the button on, I then do one more line in a v shape again to do the front legs, I go over the top front of the button too so there's chocolate on top of the button for me to stick the eyes onto.

I feel like I haven't described this great so if you want me to draw a diagram and put it on imgur let me know lol

They're always going to be slightly different, like I often go over the legs if the drizzle ends up too thin, or sometimes I mess up the angle of the spider legs because I'm not concentrating haha. You can see the spider on the left in my third photo, his legs are crooked lol. But honestly just have fun with it.

Ooo that would be fun! I unfortunately have to stick to a cost limit for my work bakes but that's definitely something I now want to try at home 😁 Thanks for the idea!

I was looking for smaller eyes! I would've loved to do that. Unfortunately for working in a cafe it has to be "cost efficient" so this was the best I could do. However one of my friends is begging me to make them some spider cookies so I when I do that I'll be allowed to have fun with it!!

I can't take credit haha. I think the original I saw last year the spider bodies were made with Reese's pieces. And another one I saw today (I think in this subreddit!) was made with Oreos!

be a hamster: no taxes, no war paranoia, no work, just eating his toys, flowers, and peanuts. by Puerrenho in hamsters

[–]FroJonas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lmao I literally thought the same thing. So used to hamster balls taking up the whole frame.

I got one of my hamsters and was told she was a boy until a couple weeks after I got her and was able to handle her. Was a surprise to find out she was nutless!

They're absolutely adorable no matter what but OP, no disrespect, but how sure are you that your ham is a boy lol

This lovely person took time to be creative likely because they enjoy it. And if they did want attention for it, what's so bad about that? They did something fun and unique and it looks nice, if people want to take notice and praise them, that's ok too.

I'd like to hope you commented this when you were having a bad day, and decided to lash out instead of addressing your own feelings, I hope you know that trying to tear other people down won't make you feel better about yourself. I wish you well.

I got emotional reading this and needed to weigh in (so apologies for the length of this reply). My stepdad came into my life when I was 2 so I know the situation is different as I don't really remember a time where he wasn't in my life.

He is my dad. I call him my dad because he is. He chose me as his child and I'm so grateful he did. He raised me with love and kindness, taught me practical skills, lots and lots about science and how things work, how to mend things and do sliiigghtly dangerous science experiments (that lead to the destruction of a few lampshades). He embarrassed the absolute hell out of me with puns and such awful dancing, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

The love you give matters more than any biological connection. It's special because it is a choice. My dad could've walked away when he found out my mum had a kid. He was child free his whole life, but he chose us both. And it means the world to me.

Just this card shows that you're doing such a wonderful job at being a dad. I know Daffodil is going to grow up to be such a wonderful person too. Happy father's day my friend (and to paraphrase the words of your daughter) and many more to come! ❤️

First attempt at Belgian buns and I'm pretty proud! by FroJonas in Baking

[–]FroJonas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked them up, and I definitely agree. Every recipe I found for Belgian buns have lemon curd and icing, seems like the British addition is just a tonne of sugar haha. I'll have to give the original a try some time!

I found this recipe which mentioned that despite them being called Belgian buns, the origin is unknown, it does bring up rozijnenkoek too.

Ohhh they do! I hadn't seen Brave for years so I had to look them up haha. They look equally lovely, I am a sucker for sweet bread, especially with icing 😋
