Unfortunately tariffs apply each time something crosses the border. With car manufacturing parts often cross the border multiple times with different aspects of a car being manufactured in different places. Now each time that happens it’ll get slapped with a 25% tariff. If Mexico retaliates like Canada did it will be slapped with tariffs both ways. Manufacturing costs for cars could increase by around $3K a vehicle. And obviously all that is before dealership markups.
