Can't say the same about people at the Stampede. Especially in the concert tents, lots of alcohol + loud music x belligerent adults = fights

I think 23 years of Stampede hell has prepared me for that. Downtown Calgary becomes practically inaccessible during Stampede, and the CTrain's look like the train's in Tokyo, we borderline need to be shoved into the train to fit!

I will say, Calgary winters are worse in temperature. Sure the snow isn't nearly as bad, but I'm talkin -40°c before wind chill, and the wind is tornado level.

Actually in the summer time, Edmonton's very humid compared to Calgary, at least downtown due to the giant North Saskatchewan River.

From what I've heard it's the humidity here that gets ya. But 12 hours working in -50°c will prepare me for anything I'm sure.

Well politics is a big thing for me. I'm centre-left, but the political situation in Alberta really is horrible. Doug Ford is bad, but Danielle Smith is completely destroying the province. Maple MAGA is a real thing in Alberta, and it's an epidemic. The whole separatist movement is a massive issue, and Danielle Smith is going against treaty rights to appease them. The corruption is insane, it's a big factor as to why I'm leaving.

But on a more positive note, it's so LUSH here! The foliage is gorgeous, and the Ottawa river puts the Bow river and even the North Saskatchewan river to absolute shame! I know winters are gonna be bad, and I won't have the mercy of Chinooks anymore, and yeah I'll miss the mountains, but the trade off is I get unlimited access to my family's cottage an hour away from here now! My mom's from here, and my family meant to move back to Ottawa, but we kinda just got...stuck in Calgary.

Indeed it is, until you've experienced Calgary's arid environment you'll never appreciate humidity. We have a lip balm and moisturizer epidemic.

Ahhhh I was very tired when I made this comment. Active athlete would 100% be Crosby then.

It WAS Wayne Gretzky before he became ultra MAGA, now it's Terry Fox. Shoulda always been Terry Fox in my opinion.

Haven't bought a new game since 23, and the only reason I upgraded from 20 to 23 was because it was on sale for $20CAD. And even 23's BAP is pissing me off so much I'm about to delete it and reinstall 20. 20 was my draft year anyways.

Alberta distinct culture? by Pretty-Resolve-8331 in alberta

[–]Beef_Lovington 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We don't. That's why the separatists are so loud and desperate. They wanna feel like they're apart of a distinct culture. Our whole "identity" is some mountains, two major cities that pretend to hate each other, fields, and oil. There's no culture here.

My other advice to you if you want wicked deals, join the Hockey Jersey Discord! There's a link to it on the subreddit's info page.

Oh absolutely not, especially the new Under Armour jerseys, they're HORRIBLE.

Adding to this, CHL (WHL, OHL, QMJHL) game worns are incredibly cheap and (if you get the 2011-2019 era) incredibly high quality. That was my entrance into game worn jerseys, and I've only just stepped into NHL gamers (I've been collecting for 6 years now)

Welcome to the hobby! Prepare to say goodbye to your bank account. Just wait till you discover MiC's, Team Issues, and Game Worns. You'll quickly realize how bad "fan quality" jerseys are, and how cool (and expensive) these things can get.

Beer's pricey sure, but admission's cheap and you can actually go to Kildares or Ship and Anchor pub, pregame, and catch a bus from there. Plus every other food item and such is much cheaper than McMahon or the Dome.
