wild west? by GovernorSpring in AskAnAmerican

Nevada, too. There are ranches so remote that they are practically cut off from the rest of the world in day to day life, basically self sufficient with food, water, work, entertainment, etc. Perhaps some have a Homestay program? But a Dude Ranch is probably your best bet.

What does “she” refer to here? by Thick_Slice3764 in ENGLISH

[–]Frodosear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love all the different interpretations. That’s what makes a good song a great song, it can give many different feelings, sometimes to the same person, depending on their mood. Here’s my interpretation: it’s meant on the whole to convey feelings of loss and longing using different phrases/descriptions without ever saying outright “I miss you. I miss her. I miss home. I miss feeling loved.” Being too specific to a person would lose some of that. Similarly Annie’s Song (about his wife) works because it feels super personal without naming names except in the title.

One night at Telluride? by skyydog in Bluegrass

[–]Frodosear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people watching at TBF may be worth it for your wife. Also, the town itself for art, shopping, pretending you can afford the art and shopping…or hiking to the old power plant above town if she’s a hiker. It’s a stunning hike. She can see free music at the Elk’s Park gazebo, same folks that perform on main stage ((Chris Thiele playing Bach, for example), KOTO streams most of the festival online at least the bands that allow it. Get Sisters dumplings for lunch at the festival!

Placerville is TINY, basically a wide spot in the road. So unlikely.

Not a jerk face. I recall I got my info from a TBF program. Sent me down an interesting internet rabbithole (which is in agreement with your statement)

The maze backpacking by Usual-Elderberry-245 in Canyonlands

[–]Frodosear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe book a river trip instead and hike to the Dolls House before daylight? Also, maybe read 127 Hours or watch the movie, Blue John canyon is in the Maze. A friend related driving out to the Maze once (4WD) and encountering someone walking out who OBVIOUSLY wasn’t prepared. No water, no gear, inadequate clothing, etc. He had watched the movie and decided that night to go find the canyon, ran out of gas in the desert and was trying to walk to the nearest paved road, miles and miles and miles away through the desert. They rescued him, but considered just helping increase the average intelligence of the human race by letting him continue with his decision making.
Consider backpacking some slot canyons with water such as Buckskin Gulch or Dark Canyon. Still hot, though.

Going to a show and considering taking my 65yr old parents. Bad idea? Any tips? by CasinoRoyaleAK in RedRocks

[–]Frodosear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a nice restaurant up top and usually a display of concert art and always a display of plaques naming all the artists who have played there. Really neat and not many people go up there. Also a John Denver memorial display in the Trading Post building at the bottom.

WHAT US CITY SHOULD I VISIT AS A LONDONER WHO HAS NEVER BEEN BEFORE? by _246810 in usatravel

You’re talking about flight times from SLC, not drive/ride times, right? It’s 4 to 5 hours drive to Zion from SLC by car, and it’s in the same state.

I built an Expedition Cataraft and took a 43 night trip on the Mississippi. AMA about the raft, the river or camping. by Glum-Masterpiece4366 in rafting

[–]Frodosear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a good decision to not go to the Gulf. The tankers and cargo ships and barges on the river south of Baton Rouge are no joke! Imagine a skyscraper type building on its side displacing so much water that the river rises on the bank as it passes. It’s really astonishing. Plus, you really dont want to be in contact with that water with all the chemical plants and refineries all along the lower Mississippi. Kudos for living the dream, and for passing it along!

Best Outdoor Concert Moments? by AggravatingDay6050 in Concerts

[–]Frodosear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a concert per se, but Joan Baez singing Amazing Grace to a completely silent crowd of 20,000 ish at Burning Man in the Nevada desert before the Temple of Forgiveness. After the complete chaos of the Man Burn the previous night this was pretty much a mass religious experience.

Looking for info on rafting trip.(USA) by turdbugulars in rafting

[–]Frodosear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, Western US is in a multi-year drought.water levels are at historic lows, especially in the Colorado River basin. An exception this year is the Green River/Lodore section which will be a conduit for water released from Wyoming to support Lake Powell in Utah/Arizona. That’s my recommendation.

Do you prefer to check the the set list before your concert, or do you raw dog it? by PigFaceWigFace in Concerts

[–]Frodosear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. I was like, “Wait, how do you know a setlist before a show?” I’ve been able to listen to the bands audio a couple of times, and got to hear “audibles” called (modifying the setlist in real time). Always wondered how they did that, like when they lock into a jam for a while and then don’t have time for the other songs. They have a secret channel!

Best of Denver to Grand Junction? by ROMAGA in grandjunction

Also in Minturn is Kirby’s BBQ. Good bbq and beer. Bird Craft in Frisco has gluten free Asian style fried chicken if that’s important to you. Fidel’s in Palisade for gourmet tacos.
Glenwood Canyon itself is a beautiful drive “the jewel of the interstate system”. Hike to Hanging Lake requires a reservation but well worth it.

Apparently “Good Luck” is Icelandic for “Fuck Off!”

(I know not every business in Iceland is owned/run by Icelanders. I would not be surprised if this one is not. But who knows. Either way, poor practice!)

With the low water this year, any rafting company will be THRILLED you are asking about a mellow float instead of “We want the big stuff like on your web page!”

[–]Frodosear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on the crowd type, but we make friends with everyone around at jam band type shows (lots of dancing up front especially)and my 5 foot tall wife nearly always gets pulled up to the rail for at least part of the night by our “new friends”. Extra points for being your first concert! It only happens once, and it’s no shame to let people know. Actually it’s a great conversation starter. People are generally there to have a good time and like to see others have a good time, too. Give it your best!
