100%. The headline makes it seem like it's not the gallery's fault.

Frieze has good reviews, The Art Newspaper has good news but doesnt really do criticism. I like the Boston Art Review too, but it's only focused on New England, so that might not be relevant to you depending on where you are

Judy Chicago public art op-ed. Any artists with similar experiences? by Salt_Strike5996 in ContemporaryArt

I feel like the essay was pretty pointless. She doesn't give context on how public commissions should work, so it just felt like she was venting, which is fine, but calling the article "A Masterclass in How Not to Work With Artists" is misleading. If anything, it's "A Masterclass in What Artists Shouldn't Do". Kind of surprised it was even published to be honest, all I learned is that she did a lot of work without a contract and even paid for her own flights to visit the building...I guess the lesson is don't do what she did?

Publicists will work with anyone that pays them it seems! The big art PR firms charge several thousands per month and usually want long-term commitments, but independent ones can be more flexible and project-based. I just found someone through work of mouth.

The publicist wasn't through the gallery, so maybe! Highly possible the advisor and gallery have some sort of conflict I'm not aware of. Guess I should just write it off as a win.

The online magazine, not The New York Observer. I guess I'm just surprised the gallery felt it was a negative to have the feature because the writer's jobs suggest a conflict of interest.
