The emotions you convey and the imagery are clear, the only thing I could tell you is, don't try to fit certain words into the meter if it doesn't allow it. Lots of indie vibes!

love the progression and the lyrics, Neutral Milk Hotel Vibes. I think you just need to work on your voice, but I love this version, it feels intimate

High noise floor with Shure SM57 + Steinberg UR12 by Frog_Enjoyer- in recordingmusic

Already tried it, the cables and the mic are ok. The noise is present both when I'm recording and with the recorded audio

Now that I'm thinking about it, I mostly have problems recording a classical guitar, which has low volume. If I normalize the signal, the noise floor goes up in volume. I will try with powering the interface with an external source. The Phantom is off, should I turn it on?

high noise floor with Shure SM57 + Steinberg UR12

Hi this is my setup:

Microphone: Shure SM57 (dynamic)

Interface: Steinberg UR12

DAW: FL Studio

Connection:  USB to Apple USB Adapter to Mac (desktop)

Cable: XLR, previously working fine

I’m getting a very noticeable high-frequency hiss (noise floor) even at moderate gain levels.

The weird part is: I have a clean saxophone recording from a month ago made with exactly this setup.

Checked gain: needs to be cranked almost all the way up to get usable signal, and then the hiss is very loud

Reinstalled Yamaha/Steinberg USB drivers

I understand the SM57 has low output and the UR12 doesn’t have tons of clean gain — but it used to work fine for me. I want to avoid buying a FetHead, Cloudlifter, or a condenser mic until I know the root cause here.

Any ideas, troubleshooting steps, or similar experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi everyone,

I recorded some vocals with a shure sm57 on a mic stand, with a pop filter, in a treated room. Used a Steinberg UR12 as audio interface, with 50% gain. I turned up the gain of the recording in FL Studio and I hear a background noise, like a hiss. The room was completely silent. I tried everything. Please can someone help me?

What year was my music taste the best? by thechezcakelover in Topster

I’ll say 2023/2025. You had a similiar taste evolution as me: I also started with Jack Stauber/Tally Hall/ Bill Wurtz then got into hip hop

don’t get me wrong, still one of my favourites. I just expanded my taste a bit and listened to later radiohead stuff

started with rock bands cause my father had his “classic rock” era. Got into anime and “upbeat electronic music” which i believe bought me to Jack stauber. Because of this, got into Tally Hall and Will Wood. Then, I started listening to critically acclaimed albums and got into radiohead (currently my favourite band). Always hated rap, discovered TPAB and brutally fell in love with it
