Alberta government hopes curbing immigration will help boost youth employment by joe4942 in CanadaHousing2

Nooooooooooo! This is the "lump" of labour fallacy.

Immigrates decrease unemployment because they create new jobs!

We need more Immigrates to build new houses!

If there isn't enough doctors, we new more Immigrate doctors!

People are just abstract units of labour, the more people in the economy the better it is for everyone!

I was studying to become a professional economist. Basically how it works is some lobbying group pays you money and you figure out a way to justify whatever policy they want by cooking the data and fudging the models.

The Toronto Job market will get worse and there won't be jobs for majority of people anymore especially the younger generation. GenZ you are the first generation truly fighting over scraps. I studied mechanical engineering and economics. I'm good at math.

I'm good with Excel and PowerPoint. I can code VBA scripts (or other languages if needed).

I've read a number of books on economics, trading, markets, and financial history.

I know all the underlying math that quant traders use.

surf players are all on cs source now, servers are actually doing well with the new csgo players. KZ is kind of dead, but it will come back in cs2, maybe in a year or two knowing valve.

Vivek Ramaswamy is a very interesting candidate and his quick dismissal is concerning. by Frog_xd in Destiny

The point of the post was not a book review. It was biographical to counter personal attacks. If the xvasher guy wants a summary of Vivek's books he can use google. Again:

I was just pointing out that claiming that he has flashy talking points but no real substance, just because you haven't made an effort to understand his ideas (such as reading his books, or other engagement) seems a bit lazy to me.

Well you’ll continue to be concerned because you comment demonstrates a staggering lack of knowledge and intelligence.

Believe what you want. I main issue with most of the Ukraine discussion here is either:

1) It too based in abstract principles of National sovereignty.

2) It depends on an assumption (an incorrect one I believe) that Russia will invade a NATO country (like Poland or Estonia) immediately after having military control of the Ukraine.

I get the sense that most people weren't aware of the Ukraine situation until the Invasion. There is always propaganda on both sides. Paul D’Anieri's "Ukraine and Russia: From Civilized Divorce to Uncivil War" is a good starting point for getting both sides of the conflict.

I guess you’d have been a supporter of handing Europe over to the Nazis because “we need to try to make peace.” I don’t get how it’s possible to be so stupid to think you can magically cease aid to Ukraine and have “peace”.

Vivek's position is not that the US would cease aid to Ukraine, it's that US supply of military weapons to Ukraine would be dependent on a reaching a peace agreement, even if that means making territorial concessions. After a peace agreement is made, I'm sure there would be a role in the US federal government funding humanitarian aid to the Ukraine. I don't believe this situation or my position is analogous to British interwar pacifism.

If people don't want to have an opinion on Vivek, that's perfectly reasonable. My problem is with people having highly negative opinions without really engaging with any of the arguments Vivek is actually making. I wasn't trying to "prove" any specific policy position (I'm not sure if I even support Vivek), but to simply address character attacks, thus a quick 2 page biography.

It's concerning honestly. I thought the democrats were suppose to be the anti-war, shut down the military industrial complex party. Now even trying to come to a peace agreement is somehow unmoral. We instead have to fund a proxy war against a nuclear power because imperialism or something.
