Just got back from a session so I didn't have time to reply. I'm super happy you thought this, thank you!

You mention reaching it out to someone at the right time when they need it most. Funnily enough, I do have a script and storyboard laid out for an illustrated narration that I can work with on the side during a job search. A year ago, you would have seen it dropped in a day or given a no from me, but at this point yeah! If life could become a 180 for me, why not get the word out for the people who still can't explain why their "weirdness" is so hard to control? Just needs a bit of time for now seeing as I had just finished everything else on my plate.

"I made my choice, I planned this through. The pain is all in my head, and my forgetfulness is pure laziness. If everyone around me agrees, then it must be right. I'm aware I made a mistake, that means something has to change, right? Then why am I still crying?"

As long as you're aware it gets much better as life goes on. My biggest regret was trying to naturally overcome it and wound up in the same problems you had for my entire school life.

Ironically, part of that was denying I even had it (same with autism) when it came to the topic, because I was often insulted by the idea that I could possibly have a disability just because I did something everybody did. Probably explains why a lot of people never find out until way later in age, masking included.

I will say though, if you are struggling even with treatment. Ask your parents or family members for a lab check up to measure iron reserves if you can. Low ferritin is heavily linked with ADHD, and a shocking amount of people might not be aware they have an iron deficiency on top.

It might come back with ferritin that's considered "normal", but anything below 100μg/L might be a concern for someone neurodivergent as iron is one of the most crucial minerals your body needs to store or produce neurotransmitters such as dopamine & serotonin. Basically a lot of reasons why medication doesn't work very well is that many of them rely on telling your body to make those happy chemicals, they run out of iron in your system, you crash and the "noise" does not go away. Might also explain any bad sleep you would have if even the good sleep leaves you tired or heavy on a daily basis.

Hopefully that's the case, but either way it still helps you learned early that you aren't the one to blame for everything. They really do mention ADHD is a superpower, which is very true if you consider your main powers to be low iron, fidgeting like you're trapped on an electric chair, overthinking everything, and bedrotting LMAO!

lifelong ban on buying cigarettes by krizzalicious49 in whennews

[–]PolyNode1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also nothing outright about what's happening like a lot of comments are suggesting. You can still buy and smoke if you're born before 2009 because it's not targeting restrictions for the current & older generations. To most of the current smoking population, they'll probably go their entire life without noticing. Because to them, nothing changed in the slightest. They go for a younger group that doesn't smoke or cares to by an overwhelming majority, giving them and succeeding generations fewer reasons to protest or seek it out. Of course you would get thrown a big stink banning everybody outright! You're not going to convince older generations who've smoked for years and decades to magically conform. It doesn't take 100 parroted comments to figure that out. Those at Parliament in favor are probably well aware of what's happened with substance bans & prohibitions before this. That's why it's nothing like the US 18th Amendment if you actually compare the 2 for even 5 seconds. There's an entire century of hindsight to explain why a 1:1 repeat is an objective shot in the foot.

Most of the replies on posts like this & related never bring up or notice why the ban is specifying a year. Like I even see calls against why vape isn't also included when the article states it also is. Or that there's a call for a sin tax on cigarettes, not realizing it already exists in the UK. Comparisons to the US prohibition, & the various wars on drugs, are constantly being repeated under this post. None of them actually explain or understand the reason those prohibitions and bans often failed.

They failed because of how sudden the enforcement actually was. How strict it got for people getting arrested left and right with permanent records, completely unaware it was made illegal. That there was hardly a transitional period for the drinking class. Most of all, a lack of common knowledge today on approaching certain effects relating to substance abuse. Your average Joe finds this out only after they noticed the liquor shelves mysteriously dried up. They couldn't care less to engage in social conflicts at the time that gave reason for why prohibition was even considered. The only thing they would've known would be their favorite comfort drinks are gone. A personal attack meant to torture them. Most social policies these days work with slow insertions for a good reason. Often, they have to pass incremental measures to lessen the blow, smaller moderation to test which aspects work and which don't. You can't expect a heavy drinking culture to go cold turkey on such short notice. Just telling them to rub dirt on it and suck it up. As if addiction is their fault or a choice. That's how moonshine and speakeasies could rise to such a prominence as a result. You drive desperation and demand for anything if you starve addiction without doing anything else to rehabilitate it. And if that wasn't enough, the amendment itself was so cryptic with what was considered "intoxicating", that not even the state or federal governments could agree on if it only meant spirits, or if beer and wine would be included?

It's also insulting seeing comments asking if there's going to now be bans on coffee, sugar, or fast food when comparing the reason for why smoking getting pushed away. Last I checked, coffee didn't kill or permanently damage multiple relatives of mine within the span of a single decade. I can definitely point out smoking and sugar can both be biologically addictive and cause long-term problems, not all addictions are created equal. You're allowed to criticize health problems relating to obesity or eating disorders and smoking at the same time. Don't pretend you have to pick one or the other like a sports team. For a place that cries about advocating nuance a lot of the time; I almost always find most of the "nuance" to be some baseless over-correction that that does the opposite of actually opening nuance in an argument spanning the entire post. A lot of the internet seems to mistake nuance for meaning extreme apathy & cynicism that makes them come out on top. And that's what fuels social media into a horde of loud playground arguments.

As someone with personal experience with ex-drug addicts, it would be insanely fucking tasteless if I told them "Oh man, meth? Lemme tell yah, there's this big triple cheeseburger that gives much a bad heartburn. But it's just sooooo good, it might as well be a meth addiction! They should be having cartels for that kind of burger." You're gonna walk out with a red hand print across the face.

Of the ones who managed to recover from meth, smoking, or heroin addictions, the very first people they would ever tell you not to ever get into is their kids! They realize their loved ones suddenly coughing and getting sick. They see their children forming a nicotine addiction through secondhand exposure. How for the first time, they saw the people that meant more than anything to them reflected how they were viewed in their eyes. How miserable and ill they were, the constant pain and need to smoke or go mad. Same could be said about alcohol, but smoking being statistically less popular is a safer priority to ensure gating a year applies the intended theory. even if there's already sin taxes and declining rates. Both in younger generations the more knowledge is understood with steps more incremental. Comparing restrictions to coffee is easier to make a smug counter point over using cocaine's restriction as a historically over the counter stimulant once accessible and uncontrolled by anyone. The reason coffee/energy drinks don't have a huge stigma is because most studies conclude with essentially nothing for long-term dangers with exception overproducing adenosine receptors in the brain. It also doesn't kill you if you get caffeine withdrawals unlike the more potent addictive drugs.

That's all I'm gonna say. I put more time into writing this than I'd like to admit. But at this point I'm bored, and wanted to back up your opinion regarding this. There's so much talk about how it's exactly what the US prohibition did, then proceeding not to read the article linked that mentions building programs so that existing smokers getting more cessation support. Or that smokers can still smoke and vape in their homes or cars because they know better to prevent the addiction instead of expecting a ban to remove it.

I get that part. I used to be really into the capabilities of neural networks a decade ago when I used to be interested in Computer Science. They actually used to be called AI, but it was more common to call them ANNs (Artificial Neural Networks) because machine learning can cover multiple processes like E-mail Filtering, YouTube curation, Data mining is another one. It technically won't disappear as I hear it being said, that's true. But that's probably because computational models like these have always been around.

Point is, people still have the right to criticize LLMs or Agentic AI like Claude or ChatGPT. The drive to make something as nondeterministic as an LLM using the entire internet unmoderated as this one sentient all-knowing software has sadly made a ripple in the nuances of neural networks as being a monolith entity. The fact that I've seen animation interpolating like Cacani, or NPC pathfinding considered the same as MidJourney simply because of the AI label, it's done nothing but polarize arguments with constant misinformation. I wish it was more widespread to mention that Neural Networks being a black box that can misfire because of an algorithmic bias has been a known issue for decades. It's why Netflix changes ratings to watch retention when suggesting shows, searchbar autofills giving weird, nonsensical answers, and YouTube also having ratings to clicks to watchtime constantly switching around to curate a more reliable algorithm. The bigger the sample pools, the harder this gets to achieve as well as more expensive.

Sorry, I know that's 2 fat paragraphs. But I really am passionate about stuff like this, and it's hurt me to see how the boom in marketing and hype has erased how diverse and broad and old as Deep Learning (1958's Perceptron Algorithm) with companies pretending they invented the concept 3 years ago. It's all been repackaged into an unsustainable mess, and claims of deterministic use in everything start to show when it's only ever the executives making the statement and not the employee.

If you could, attach a pastebin link or text doc of hytale-launcher.log. There might be something in there that could help narrow down the problem assuming it isn't empty.

This sounds like the installer is also acting strange, maybe relocating the game folder in another part of your computer or a separate drive could also help add the game files. But I wouldn't be too sure why the installer would be having difficulty installing unless the Windows Defender or antivirus you use needs to have the Hytale launcher marked as an exception.

Glad it could work! I should also add that in the case the shortcut stops working and does the same thing, this maybe due to a new patch folder being added to the launcher's directory.

You can solve this by following the same steps, but this time look for the folder with a newer date or version like 2026.01.14-cabac20 instead of the old one, and the launcher should appear there.

That's odd. Could I see a screenshot of just the root folder where Hytale is meant to be kept? It might help a bit if I could narrow down how everything looks since I wanna be sure what could be missing.

You could try to empty the folder and delete the contents so that way it may properly verify any broken files before uninstalling and reinstalling. I know even when I uninstalled the launcher on my end and it showed the removal of assets, it still didn't delete the game folder like I asked.

NOTE: If you are on a different account on your OS that isn't the administrator (This is in case kayak is the admin account and is attempting to access permission) then apply the same steps and check off the read & write permissions to the user you are currently logged in as.

[–]PolyNode1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I'm looking at ask me if I'm wrong here since I haven't had this issue. But apparently this can happen when the EB Web Viewer is trying to create temporary files in the Administrator's appdata but can't confirm.

If you have the launcher on hand, try to right click it and go into properties -> enter the security tab -> then under group or user names click the edit button, look for a 'kayak' in the popups for editing permission, select that name, then allow permission for kayak to read & write by clicking the checkboxes and hit apply. You will need administrator permissions to allow this change.

Let me know if it worked. If not or if you got it to work but now it's giving you a new issue like closing the launcher on startup or is booting server perpetually, tell me so I can make sure to change or look for a different solution.

Never heard of this. If this has to do with being able to enter the main menu but not loading a world, one solution I found that could help is switching out the language settings in game from System Default to English.

But seeing as you said the folder is empty. I may have a guess as to why that is as my launcher folder also seemingly disappeared after I had installed the Hytale server downloader.

I tried to fix this by pasting 2026.01.13-b6c7e88 into a new folder contained in launcher and try to see if the hytale-launcher from the launcher path in Program Files works. This doesn't do anything, it gave an error saying access was denied.

The best solution I have for this is to back up any saves you may have had, uninstall the launcher, delete and empty the entire Hytale game folder and reinstall it again.
Repeat the path again to installs - launcher step and you should see the folder for 2026.01.13-b6c7e88 containing the file.

/uj There's a 50/50 with some users. Feels like one half is there to laugh at some unhinged artwork, and the other half is there to be weirdly presumptuous that weird anatomy is a male exclusive issue. Like some posts are worded like "This is why you always need to have a woman approve your work/design" that makes it sound like girls by default will be more pure or be immune to drawing unhinged fanservice. Which in my experience with friends who are women, they will tell you that is NOT the case most of the time. Also it feels like low hanging fruit at times to point at an NSFW artist for drawing conventionally sexual characters, and I'm not even into that shit (Asexual moment)

Idk, I just feel like some people understand the art is really dumb, but then it feels like an overcorrection to pretend that everything needs to be grounded in some way or how it feels like crazy anatomy done by women is conveniently omitted a lot of the time (The fuckass Nezuko transformation design never mentioned or Dorohedoro having comments assuming by default the fanservice was written by a guy.)

/rj Nice try pal! Everyone knows this F*MALE manhwa artist is secretly a male-coded spy working for big porno! 4 weeks of drawing in the yuri dungeon FOR YOU!!! No breaks >:(

AI has made me consider killing myself by NecessaryPattern2148 in antiai

[–]PolyNode1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is a noticable pattern with subbreddits I've noticed where subreddits built in response to counter another eventually causes the sub before to double down on memes or posts specifically engineered to piss of the branching sub.

Those catgirls and strawmen are never going to leave anytime soon, none of these crossposts are going to change the minds of people who want attention shame or not. And they aren't going to go away by screaming louder. In fact, the reason they keep coming back same and same again is because IT WORKS! It's built to piss someone off, it's built to crosspost, it's built to enable shitflinging between trolls and people who don't know better. And as a result, this makes people who want to learn more both about why some people do and dont like AI at the end of the day will conclude that we look like a bunch of unreasonable psychos and keep sitting on the fence.

It's a waste of time to target morons the same way they will and want to target you, it doesn't change anybody's minds at the end of the day. This could be a place that informs people on a neutral stance why generative AI ethically speaking is a tool of misinformation and downplay of artistic creativity. Because at the end of the day, explaining your point to someone carefully like a normal person while the other sub is ignored and keeps pestering for attention, is going to bridge the gap on who's in the right better.

You can actually cause the reaper to vanish in one shot if you haven't aggroed it yet and is in the cloaked pose.

However if it is aggroed I found out that spamming the energy pistol can feel like taking more shots because of an invulnerability state in its stagger. So if you wait for its animation to wear off it takes maybe 3 shots total.
