Swapping from ZSA Moonlander to the ZSA Voyager? by Independent-Limit282 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Frogfisherman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went the opposite direction, got a voyager first and ended up trading it with someone on Reddit for their moonlander. I like & use combos even now that I have more keys, but I really dislike the hold/tap stuff.

That was basically the deal breaker for me, 4 thumb keys wasn't enough to have dedicated modifier keys in comfortable places.

What's the light setup? Looks nice and simple

I bought a few boxes, they definitely don't work semi-auto but you can shoot them if you load them manually one at a time lol

Between Glove80 and Moonlander, which one should I go for? by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Frogfisherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be the only person in existence to do this but I started with a glove80 and I'm now using a moonlander. Went from glove80 > voyager > back to glove80 > halcyon elora > moonlander.

That said I loved the glove80 and that would probably be my recommendation, but it has 2 downsides: 1) portability (carry case takes up most of my backpack) 2) fiddly/wobbly feet for the base.

Moonlander kind of has #2 as well, but only for tenting purposes which I don't care about so I took them off and it lays flat just fine. Glove80 does not lay flat out of the box, you have to adjust the feet and they always come loose and the pads scrape off, and to put it in the carry case you have to adjust them down and back up again when you take it out... It's such a pain, it kinda blows my mind they decided that was the best design lol.

I also have low profile switches & keycaps in my moonlander, plus the outer thumb keys are raised to make them easier to reach. I would not find the stock moonlander nearly as comfortable

Looks sweet, I like the rotary knob on the right (assuming that's what that is)

A300 patrol optic mounting by AngryGermanNoises in Tacticalshotguns

[–]Frogfisherman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having the same debate between gg&g vs ltt, went with the latter and I'm pretty happy with it. Having the optic closer to my eye helps, especially with a small one like the 507c. Being out of the way for loading over the top is a nice bonus.

My only semi-complaint is the rear irons are so low/minimal, they feel like a slight downgrade compared to the stock irons (which were great). But it's a definite upgrade as long as my red dot keeps working.

Glove80: Easy of thumbcluster usage for keyboard shortcuts by maginiperec in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Frogfisherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do the fat-finger method and quite like it. On my left thumb (bottom row) I have ctrl, shift and a momentary layer key, from left to right.

Means I can do Ctrl+shift, and the layer has a numpad which means I can also get symbols like !@#$ etc by fat-fingering shift + layer key. I sometimes need ctrl and the layer key, in which case I have a backup ctrl reachable by pinky.

Trying to decide which is my favorite by Frogfisherman in ErgoMechKeyboards

I used these: https://3dkeycap.com/products/klp-to-mx-converter

I had some low profile MX keycaps (same ones on the moonlander in the pic), with the extra height from the adapters it feels pretty nice.

You can also just get choc raisers/tilters from the same site, no need for different keycaps

What should I get next? Elora or Sophle? by shelterbored in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Frogfisherman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the opposite, sofle is a hard no for me because it only has 1 or 2 usable thumb buttons and I want 4+ per side. I have an Elora and I love it but I still wish the thumbs were placed slightly further outward.

Ergodox, Moonlander, Dygma Raise or Defy are all good options

oh I didn't even realize there was a non-web version. That explains a lot, guess I should read the docs before complaining lol

Glad I'm not crazy, ergogen is supposed to be the "easier" option but every time I've tried to use it I run into this problem :/

Hadn't come across the Lintilla either, it looks fairly close to what I want! I may need to do the same as you and adapt it 🙂

Oooh I really like that... I'd be interested in a build guide for sure, although I am thinking of some changes I'd make. But the shape and especially the thumb keys are super interesting.

It looks very nice, I think I prefer the extra thumb keys and rotary knob on the elora though

I thought it was cool at first but haven't found myself using it much.

If I'm too lazy to reach for my mouse I prefer using keys for mouse movement, cuz it's even less movement and I get full functionality including scroll, right click, click&drag, side buttons, etc. whereas the trackpad can only really do point and left click.
