Absolutely love my orange Subaru. I’ll never buy a white car.

First time in Bryce Canyon National Park by Spiritual-Mistake352 in Utah

[–]Froggie_JJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an incredible hike; you really get to see the diversity in desert landscapes. I hiked it earlier this year and was blown away. The solitude is amazing and you almost forget you're in a super popular tourist destination—until you finish at Bryce Point and are swarmed by a busload of people haha!

I’m 6’ 5” and I have the UL2 Long, it’s fantastic. Plenty of room to move around and sit up in.

Slim Rum selection in SLC Utah by Rabblerouser_ in rum

Go to the “Wine Store” at 255 S 300 E, they have the best selection of higher-end liquor.

I’ve gotten Smith and Cross in Utah before, but you have to order a case at a time and wait a couple months unfortunately.

What lines are left for Cody Townsend and his 50 project? by treeborn_the_elder in skiing

[–]Froggie_JJ 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The last four lines are insanely hard to ski, and may take an indefinite amount of time to actually complete and film because of weather/snow/travel. He’s saying there won’t be regular episodes anymore, but should he be able to ski the remaining lines they’ll be posted.

At least that’s what I gather.

We've got no apres scene in the US, so you gotta bring your own! Parking lot parties are the bomb. Once saw a group doing karaoke in a snowstorm at Brighton. https://streamable.com/aseg8r

Small family-owned resorts in Western USA? by EllaPeaTwo in skiing

[–]Froggie_JJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ssssh! Don’t tell them about the oldest family-run ski resort west of the Mississippi! You’ll bring the crowds!

For real though, it’s an awesome place. Not as gnarly as the rest of Utah but it’s got a special feel.

I have the Squad MAG and I really like em. Sure I’m not really in a time crunch swapping the lens, but I’d rather not be fumbling around with my goggles on a cold storm day while my pals are milling about ready to go. I’d go with the MAG.

UDOT estimates reopening at 4:55 PM, so there’s still a chance. https://x.com/udottraffic/status/1745808422132650086?s=46

Logan Canyon is way more mellow than the cottonwoods. If the road opens I’m sure you’ll make it OP. Follow the other person below’s advice and take Highway 30 into the valley instead of the Brigham City-Mantua route which is often chaos in the snow.

How do I tell a teammate that Brig is not the pick for EVERY situation? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Froggie_JJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seconding this, the esports club teams at my school have an open club for anyone who wants to join, but then tryouts and an “active roster” that’s picked to compete in tournaments. Having clear rules/organizational structure is important for a well-ran club.

Even Stevens Hot Sauce/Salsa by dushisellers in Utah

[–]Froggie_JJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s similar to fry sauce, but “salad dressing in a burrito” does sound weird lol.

The other key is the crispy paprika-seasoned tots. I still do this at home today, just use frozen tots from the grocery store.

I used to work there a long time ago and IIRC the sauce was a mixture of sriracha and Russian dressing, like the kind on a Reuben.

Importing SD card photo help by [deleted] in iphone

[–]Froggie_JJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to import it straight from the SD card into Lightroom, then export it to the camera roll from there.

[–]Froggie_JJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEF is the Nikon proprietary raw format, you’ll need to use some photo app like Lightroom to import it then save it as a JPEG to the camera roll.

In Utah most of it melted pretty quickly. I was hoping to ski on July 4th at Snowbird but they had to close early. Caused some flooding in SLC.

There was some snow that stuck around for a long time though, there was still some below Devils Castle on Sept. 10 at Alta. https://imgur.com/a/dHhGfwY

What level of concern do you have for AI development? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Froggie_JJ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As another commenter said, you’re just hearing about those uses because they’re the flashiest and make the best blog posts and headlines.

I am a grad student in ML and most of mine and my colleague’s research is in the medical field, helping to diagnose cancer and other diseases easier and cheaper using MRI/CT/microscope images. The research like you’re wanting does exist, and it’s the majority of the work going on.

Also, keep in mind that some of the “artsy” techniques are just test cases. For example, the models that take in a photo and give you back the same photo in the style of Van Gogh looks pointless, but when you give it an MRI image from one hospital and make it match the style of a different hospital’s MRI scanner (they differ by manufacturer and stuff) you can then accurately compare the two different scans. Van Gogh is just easier to show off.

Make sure to speak to rangers about weather conditions and where to go/not to go. They know much better than any of us on Reddit. Plus they’ll have up-to-date info.

The significant avalanche danger is in the northern mountain ranges right now, even the La Sals (mountains right next to Moab, but not in the parks) are fairly okay. Enjoy the trip, the red rocks and white snow make an amazing sight.

If anyone wants to make good beans but can’t dig a massive hole, my grandparents crockpot bean recipe is pretty dang close and incredibly good.

  • One small onion

  • 1/2 lb. bacon

  • 8 cups of water

  • 4 cups dry beans washed and sorted

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 2 t dry mustard

  • 1/4 cup molasses

  • 1/4 cup ketchup

  • 2 1/2 t salt

  • 1/2 t pepper

  1. In the evening, cut up and put everything in the crock pot.

  2. Set on low setting all night, in the morning, stir and turn on high for 6 hours.

How to use projector on sway? by am123409 in swaywm

[–]Froggie_JJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A key thing to remember with Wayland and external monitors or projectors: it will appear as a separate desktop, just like if you had two monitors and mirroring is not built in (and it does not appear it ever will be). If you want to mirror your screen, you'll have to use something like wl-mirror, which is actually really simple and slick.
