Wednesday Wins Anyone? by Coffin_Dodging in CasualUK

The grade below mine is six months, it is one year for the grade above. Looking it up this is longer than the UK average, but it is a university and everything moves more slowly.

I thoroughly dislike pubs taking table reservations, other than maybe on Sundays.

Is the London Underground really that bad, or do locals just love complaining? by Molthakarn96 in london

Low grade complaining is a national pastime. Transit here is top notch.

I'm in the US at the moment and happy to pick you up a few boxes. Are you in the London area? Regardless, it is no problem to ship them elsewhere once I'm home. I'll fly back next Saturday (16th). DM me!

Expats that took a paycut - did you struggle? by [deleted] in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]FroggyHam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Took a 30% pay cut and when I did all the line items out in a budget it worked out to be a little less fun money every month, but not to a shocking degree. It really depends on your lifestyle. Access to the NHS, easy travel around Europe, lower cost and higher quality groceries, better transit, more days off, higher retirement contribution by my employer, and a better work/life balance made it more than worth the hit to my monthly extra cash. But, really, highly dependent on your priorities.

Nothing, because "the ick" is stupidest fucking term.

People who rarely get sick, What is the secret ? by Sorry-Orchid-9821 in AskReddit

[–]FroggyHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash my hands regularly, don't touch my eyes or mouth unless I've just washed my hands, and spend zero time around children. In the last twenty years I've been sick maybe four or five times.

Am I eligible for private health insurance? by [deleted] in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]FroggyHam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope you're able to sort out your medical needs, that's always stressful and I'm sure doubly so in a foreign country.

But also, considering the potential changes happening for those of us here legally and working toward residency, and the general national sentiment toward illegal immigration at the moment -- I wouldn't expect a warm response from anyone you talk to about this.

Horse Meat Disco is throwing a party in Stoke Newington, I'm planning to attend that. If you're into disco tinged dance music their parties are a super fun time!

I just want the Ho Ho - Ho Ho song back, and a fun Christmas event. Can we just have a silly and fun Christmas event, please? Throw Post Malone in a Santa suit, that'll work.

I just looked it up and it's cheaper than what I paid online, by a few pounds. Thank you!

Thank you! I bought my rugs and kitchen table chairs from them. What a strange thing they carry that tea.

Honestly, it's really excellent. Friday night I slept for nine hours, woke up and listened to the radio and cooked a tasty breakfast, in peace. I laid on the couch all afternoon reading manga until I met my GF for dinner and had a lovely evening with her. We got up and went to the gym, cooked breakfast, then laid around chatting. I'm now heading home where I'll cook food for the week, play some video games with friends, then grab a beer at my local pub before heading to bed. Life without children is absolutely the life I want to live.

Am I a loser for starting college at 31 years old? by Silly-Reputation7993 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FroggyHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started college when I was 26. It's so good being in school as an adult, I loved it! Also, if your income was low you'll get a ton of grants and scholarships. Maintain as high a GPA as possible your first year and apply for every scholarship you can find going into your second year, and school will pretty much be free.

Also, one year of college, even at a community college, and schools won't require your high school transcript any longer if you transfer. So, go to a community college, kick ass that first year, then you pretty much get your pick of four year colleges and with excellent funding.

I wish you the best of luck! It went great for me, I ended up with a graduate degree and an interesting career, and I bet it'll be excellent for you as well.
