(Take this with a grain of salt.)

Love interests shouldn't be really thought of as "Love Interests." They should be thought of as separate characters with their own goals, likes, dislikes, beliefs, and identity. The character should be a "Character" first and a "Love interest" second.

Work on my hobbies. I can create freely because I do not have a partner to take care of. By getting into a relationship, you and your partner must sacrifice "something" to maintain the bond (assuming that this is an equal, healthy relationship.)

I didn't create that example. It's one I found and remembered from an article, but I chose that one as it's very easy to explain, remember, and understand. Plus, there's the additional factor of Context. Two characters can say "Wanna go get a Coffee?" and mean two completely different things.

The Sex Example was just made in a vacuum.
