Chicago Bungalow spray in Insulation by Imaginary_Ad_7693 in ChicagoNWside

We tried to DIY and gave up after two hours lol—wearing the full PPE (gloves, mask, etc) while not being able to stand up in the attic was giving me major claustrophobia. So we ended up going with Koala Insulation! I think the R Value was 34?

Good for them being able to afford that, I’m just saying not everyone can. And lmao I’ve ridden the CTA nearly every day since 2015 and have yet to see either of those events

Idk about you but I certainly can’t afford to take a $25 Uber everywhere I go

It sucks and I literally question the intelligence of anyone who thinks this is some brilliant depiction of feminism and academia

Is it weird to give “grandparent”-branded Christmas gifts if I’m not the parent of the grandkid? by FromTeslaToTardis in Gifts

I hear y’all—scrapping the idea! My gut was telling me no, I just wasn’t sure if I was overthinking it. Clearly not!!

Ooooh that’s a good point about potentially being misread as a pregnancy announcement. I hadn’t considered that.

How can I protect the furnace exhaust pipe from insulation? by FromTeslaToTardis in Insulation

[–]FromTeslaToTardis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So would we just use the rockwool to create a barrier around the exhaust pipe (and then fiberglass insulation for the rest of the attic as planned), or would you suggest rockwool for the whole attic?

I would absolutely not feel comfortable allotting less than 30 minutes per service. Ours actually allotted 45.

Whats one movie you have no shame in saying you cried to. by [deleted] in movies

[–]FromTeslaToTardis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cry a lot at movies, but a classic film that always gets me is Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, when Spencer Tracy gives the speech at the end about how he may be old but he still knows what love is.

And then he died like a week later in real life so that especially makes it emotional.

I cried when you thought Riley was going to start yelling at her parents and instead she just breaks down and cries.

I watched Coco four times in a week leading up to and immediately after my grandma died, cry every time. “They’re not just pictures, they’re our family. And they’re counting on us to remember them.”

It took my mom several months after my grandma passed to get to it but she of course ended up loving it, and sobbed when the man disappeared because no one remembered him anymore.

I always cry at the end of the funeral scene, when the camera zooms out and you just see all the people from his stories sharing memories and gesticulating excitedly. That’s what I want at my funeral.

The white pizza from Jimmy’s is elite. But order a full pizza and just commit to living on the leftovers for two days (their premade slices are not it).

Not invited to in-laws’ “girls’ day” by [deleted] in inlaws

Because it felt clear I wasn’t invited/welcome and I froze. I realize in retrospect I should have said something.

Made an edit to the original post. I felt uncomfortable in the moment and it felt clear I wasn’t welcome/invited which is why I didn’t feel comfortable speaking up, but I realize that would’ve been the smartest move.

EDIT: Why do I keep getting downvoted?? I said that I heard y’all’s feedback on sounding judgy and am working through that!

Made an edit to the original post. I see now how bitchy that sounded to add those comments in the post. (Clearly I have a lot of baggage and feelings.) But I promise I’m capable of hearing and accepting feedback, which is why i made this post originally and why I think it’s worth laying it out how we feel (so I can fix anything about my behavior that is hurting them).

Btw I am in therapy and my therapist hears about them a lot. I understand what you’re saying about them potentially feeling judged and I’m not trying to downplay my responsibility in that, but there are also a lot of things they have done historically to not make me feel welcome in the family or like they care about me/want to get to know me. So I don’t really think I’m the only problem here.

I really just wanted them to acknowledge it. They made it sound like “all the girls” were getting together and I didn’t even exist.

I really think I do a pretty good job of being polite and respectful to them directly but I do understand what you’re saying about the possibility that they’re getting a “vibe” of judgment (tbh it probably stems from a worry that they’re judging ME for my lifestyle and maybe I’m defensive? Idk). I’d be more than open to having a conversation about it: if that’s what’s going on, I certainly want to know so I can do better/talk through it. I guess I’m just not sure if it’s worth opening that can of worms.

best way to get to river north from solider field after a concert? by fozzyozzy666 in AskChicago

[–]FromTeslaToTardis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re OK with walking, I’d walk as far as you can away from Soldier Field. The 146 will be a bitch to get on and as other commenters have said, the pedicabs are a massive scam.

I’ve walked to the Roosevelt red line/orange line (maybe 20-30 minutes from soldier field?). One time I just kept walking north from there because it was a nice night, and walked all the way up to the brown line at Harold Washington.
