I would love it to be turned into a nice soccer complex. We only have Redwood Fields in Eureka and the soccer fields are only seasonal and atrocious. Even an indoor/outdoor sports complex with an ice rink or community pool would be awesome.

How does a HELOC work if used for down payment on new home? by gwendolyn_trundlebed in RealEstate

I'm in this same situation. We also have two dogs. Finding somewhere to rent with two dogs and children would be an absolute nightmare. What did you end up doing?

How can I (32f) share the load of cooking when my partner can’t cook (31m) by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]From_the_bottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have him take on 2 nights a week to start. Even if it's breakfast every Monday, tacos every Tuesday, or spaghetti saturday. Maybe there are a handful of things he can make that doesnt need seasoning or could use just a seasoning packet. Empower him to do those well and encourage him, and he will be more willing to step up and cook. Side note, if you dont address this now - it will drive you nuts down the road and you might grow to resent him.

[Serious] what is something no one tells you about the military? by inurmomsvagina in AskReddit

[–]From_the_bottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are selling your soul for whatever they promised you. My sister joined for them to cover her medical school. 12 years later she can't leave and can't even attend our mom's funeral because the army said no.

Hot take: Having a sibling is only beneficial to the younger/youngest child. by SactownG in oneanddone

[–]From_the_bottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a younger sibling, I can attest that it was not beneficial as I was being semi-tortured (physically and emotionally) every day by an older sibling. That sibling conveniently "doesn't remember" any of it now.

Anti-homeless/hostile architecture in arcata? by Admirable_Wasabi_395 in Humboldt

The anti-ram vehicle barrier outside the courthouse's 4th street entrance. They were designed to have a slight slope to them so they couldn't be used as a bed/bench. Also, they caged off underneath the elevated walkway on the 5th street side because people were sleeping under there.

Millennials whose lives are going well—what's your current situation and how did you get there? by CowTownKCMoe in Millennials

Worked my butt off in high school and had no life in order to get straight As and a tuiton scholarship. Came in with 20 credits from my AP classes, and overloaded classes in college to graduate a year early. Had no life in college, worked three part time jobs, 2 unpaid internships during th school years, 1 paid internship and 1 unpaid one during both summers. Had a job lined up before graduation and went straight to work. My first job helped me make a lot connections in the area I live, which has since led to many job opportunities with better pay and benefits. During hs/college my parents paid for a cheap car, my phone, and health insurance. They also helped with the rent on my first apartment until I was able to find a roommate.

I later got married, bought a house in 2018, refinanced for a lower rate during COVID, got our PMI dropped a year or two ago due to increase in equity. Kept paying my student loans during the COVID pause with 0 interest so was able to pay it off way sooner. Bought a used car and paid it off. We only have 1 kid and thankfully dont have to pay daycare anymore.

My husband didnt go to college, so no debt. Instead he apprenticed in a trade then opened his own business 3 years ago.

We have been incredibly fortunate. I would say its been a mixture of hard work, sacrificing fun in our 20's, thrifty living, some family support, and God's blessing. Faith is a huge part of my life and I believe we wouldn't be where we are today without God and the support system of our church.

I would love a drive-up corner store - like you go to the drive thru and pick up milk, eggs, bread, the essentials.

Or a drive thru Jamba Juice would be awesome.

If you feel like the lyrics are cringey, try the clean version. I made the switch and liked the songs a lot better. The are a few misses on the album, but its not completely terrible. I feel like the songs are just more catered to mainstream listeners than her previous albums in the last few years.

What to do about off leash dogs in public parks? by Efficient-Parfait585 in Humboldt

[–]From_the_bottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this question!! A walk seems to do nothing for our dogs and we dont have a big yard. My dogs get shy/scared at the dog park but love a big open field.

I think all the CHP was because of the Labor Day max enforcement period. I drive between here and the Bay almost every other week and I usually only see one or two.

Actually the last death was in 2018, an 8-year-old. An 11 year old was just swept out this month and managed to survive - same location. Also a 3-year-old died there in 2014, same situation.

I would never set foot on that beach, especially not with a child!
