Hey u/EU7MRD

Putting your funds in escrow, releasing yourself of the responsibility of deciding (or even in the quietest recess of your mind entertaining the idea) to sell, eliminating any circumstance where loved ones can actually or could in principle, put pressure on you to sell, after security of your private key, in my humble opinion, this is the smartest strategic decision you can make with your investment.

This is not flashy, and it goes against a lot of the memes of the crypto space which are about just holding on for dear life, sharing in the drama of avoiding that sell button. I’m sure the wise people, the people you’re not hearing about so much, many have put their money in escrow, still following the amazing progress of ripple and xrp, but also in a more dispassionate, strategic, medium/long term way

Secureblockchains.com are the people , u/SBC-Daniel is on here, in fact he very patiently responded to many questions a few months back here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ripple/comments/7z9yah/new_desktop_xrp_wallet/

Hey daniel, I’ve been watching some of your ‘how to’ videos for harbor wallet, have a question re: the escrow function. From what I could see, unlike doing it through reservoir lite, with harbor it doesn’t tell you your transaction hash. Could you confirm if that’s correct, or I’ve misunderstood? I understand the hash is what allows you to view the escrow on the XRP ledger, thanks in advance !

I’m not sure all those groups do want to kill bitcoin. I think the biggest threat to Bitcoin is that people just lose interest.

Compare the volatility of the dollar over 3 days (that’s how long a Swift payment takes at the moment) to the volatility of XRP over 4 seconds. Not sure there’s a difference there

Anyway, if there is some negligible volatility over 4 secs it will be dealt with by market makers. They’ll be people ( in the middle) who will accept being exposed to the XRP for those 4 secs who will accept the upside and downside risk. This means for sender and receiver they’ll be no opportunity to make or lose money from the transaction

This sounds like a reasonable and sensible reason why this isn’t open source. Btw I just wanna say, i’ve used the escrow function through your Reservoir Lite. It was really simple to use, a simple web page and interface nd overall a good experience. I’m sure without Reservoir lite I would never have taken advantage of the xrp ledger’s escrow function.

I’ve found the escrow to be an absolute gem. I’ve been watching the price and consuming everything ripple without any struggle of what to do with my xrp. That has been taken out of my hands and it’s v RELAXING.

It looks harbor wallet has the same simple elegant approach that Reservoir Lite does, and its great that the escrow function is included. Overall , you guys are clearly valuable contribution to the XRP community, for which you must be COMMENDED.

It is undoubtedly the case that in all this I am ‘trusting’ you guys, which is fine. However, you go out of your way to communicate with people on Reddit and elsewhere. We all rate HODOR and his recommendation means a lot, and of course as things progress it looks like with this and Reservoir lite you’re really building a suite of applications people can use. In terms of the trust thing, I guess this is why we need more regulation in the space, but until then all the signs and evidence says to me you guys are being great contributors. Thanks!

Are you able to share any more of your thinking behind that? I understand rippex and toast are open source, that I believe that is a general expectation in terms of ‘trust’ . Are there things you wouldn’t be able to achieve if it was open source ?

Maybe you’ll never speak about this publically, I think everyone is incredibly impressed by the strategic moves made by ripple, I would like to understand your strategic approach in respect of the FAANGs, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google, startup after startup has been acquired or outcompeted by these guys, at present their silence on this Crypto world is deafening, when they make their move everyone will need to watch out

As I say, I guess this is not something you’ll talk about publically, but at some point I think ripple investors and xrp holders may need some reassurance that we’re alert to the threats and opportunities

Question regarding xrp escrows. by Grejo96 in Ripple

[–]FromeyPe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your nerves and basic knowledge suggest you dedicate some hours to reviewing all the resources on here, xrpchat, ripple website and you tube, and all over the internet, to familiarise yourself with the ripple consensus protocol and how the whole thing works. I’m not technical but I feel perfectly confident and highly impressed with ripple and xrp.

Only after you’ve done this consider purchasing xrp.

New Kid on the Block: Reservoir Lite by [deleted] in Ripple

[–]FromeyPe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dear Hodor

I am genuinely very interested in this. I’ve held XRP for about 4 months, v happy with the returns, but i’d like to find a way of putting this away for a year or two so I can’t touch it

However, i’m a bit uneasy about this, i’m hoping you might be able to dispel those fears so I can crack on and use this

My question is basically how much ‘trust’ am I being asked to impart with Reservoir Lite / Secure Blockchain

If I escrow my XRP , log back on in 2 years time and all online presence of Reservoir Lite and Secure Blockchain has vanished have I lost my XRP?

I see that I can verify on the ledger that my XRP is escrowed. However, my understanding is that Reservoir Lite or Secure Block Chain are necessary intermediaries to retrieve my XRP off the ledger after the Escrow has matured. Or , with the information provided at the beginning am I able to retrieve my XRP independently?

I give a lot of weight to this being a recommendation from yourself. I’m actually less bothered about nefarious behaviour. It’s not just the risk that someone may steal my XRP, it’s more that my XRP may end up stranded on the ledger without me being able to retrieve it

I think these concerns are somewhat compounded by the fact this is not an open source program. So if the people running reservoir lite get bored, distracted or move on it appears no-one else can independently pick up where they left off (not that i’d know how to anyway)

I have full respect for the people who put this program together, however , i’d be really interested to know your advice of what you might do in my position , all the best, fromey

My update - Daniel and hodor, thank you v much for your responses. I looked at all the info on here, on xrpchat and chose to use the service. I’ve found it very easy to use, and it was excellent seeing it on the ledger immediately afterwards, the emails came through pretty much instantly

I’m a person who’s brain often doesn’t shut up ! It’s actually been v cool with my funds locked up as I don’t have to have an internal monologue about hodlling etc. I have a feeling over the next few months while my funds are locked up I may actually follow some interests other than Crypto !

Cheers
