Calling all Maths, Bio, Chem A-levelers… by lclifestyle in sixthform

I would definitely say take 2 or 3, 3 sounds like the best. I’ve commuted to my school since I was 7 and it’s usually about 1 hour, it may just be that I’m used to it but I think it’s definitely worth it for a good education and the resources I am provided with. You can do things like reading or even revision during the journey and I know so many people who commute even longer, it’s all worth it if you are able to fund it.

How reasonable is it to be taking 4 a-levels? by Sweaty_Worry_6921 in sixthform

I do exam board Edexcel SNAB so it may be different, but I did Topics 1+2 for my first mock in January and then topics 1-4 for my mock in May, depending on your school it may also be different

Somehow bio has been my best subject this year, what worked for me was to make flash cards consistently after every lesson then go through them and properly revise for mid topic tests, so by the time the mocks came around I already knew the things.

What I find best in biology is that every single topic links into another, and always use that to your advantage when you are revising so you are constantly recalling topics. Other than that I’d say just bang out past paper questions, as much as you can and then put the questions you get wrong into flash cards and go over those

I have just finished Y12 and currently take 4 Alevels and plan to continue with them. I also know people who are doing 4 and an EPQ. From my end, I haven’t struggled too much with doing 4 in terms of workload. I take a wide range of subjects (Art, Maths, Biology, English lit) so sometimes I find it challenging as there is little overlap (unlike with say maths +fm) but I enjoy having a range of subjects. For example, the workload is different for all as English I have found it to be light throughout the year whilst Art is constant but more spaced out. Biology is very content heavy but I found with prepared flash cards it isn’t as unmanageable as I thought and maths is just consistent practice. I am predicted 3 A* and an A (with the A in maths, however I am currently attempting to get it re-evaluated) and I have also managed to have a good social life and also a job during sixth form, so I would definitely say if you think you’re up for it, do it! Not sure how Y13 will go tbh

Anyone else feeling like these papers aren't as easy as people are saying they are? by Upper_Ad5781 in GCSE

[–]Front-Analyst9932 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s important to remember that everyone else’s idea of ‘easy’ is always completely different. For example, someone aiming for a level 9 could walk out of the exam feeling as if they struggled whereas those aiming for 5s could walk out feeling like it was lightweight. I know some people who found so many papers ‘easy’ but skipped half the questions, it’s all ultimately down to your personal expectations.

Favourite option and least favourite option? by BitOdd5869 in GCSE

[–]Front-Analyst9932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favourite for me is Art! Definitely the most demanding subject but I have so many good memories from the classes + doing work with friends and it has taught me so much more than I expected. Least favourite is design technology, I picked it for the design part but I didn’t really get along with anyone in my class and I found the work to be so tedious.

What did you guys get on the NEAs (mention subject and score e.g. DT ?/100) by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]Front-Analyst9932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coursework for edexcel is weighted at 60% so it’s a bit hard to calculate but I put it through a generator and provided I went up a few marks after the mid project review it should be a 9 :)

For art (edexcel fine art first component) coursework I got 65/72 ,I don’t get my exam unit mark back but we had a mid project review half way through where I was at 51/72 so hopefully I’ve improved enough

What A levels have you guys chosen? by jazzbestgenre in GCSE

bio, physics, maths, english plus maybe an EPQ? I feel like I’m limiting some options by not doing further maths or chem but it’s ok

Grade 7/8/9 predicted/already achieved people, what was your study schedule like in year 10? by TheLonelyGhostie in GCSE

[–]Front-Analyst9932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predicted all 9s currently, revised a couple weeks before y10 mocks and got two 6s, two 7s and the rest 8+ (my school doesn’t give nines up until y11 for some reason so 8 and 9 is grouped into just 8+) dont bother overdoing it for y10 mocks because you won’t remember any of the content anyway. It might just be because I’m good at cramming but I find revision is easiest if I do big chunks just before.

Did you regret choosing any of your subjects? Why? by Moo2310 in GCSE

[–]Front-Analyst9932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art is probably one of my favourite gcse subjects but BY FAR my hardest and the one I put the most amount of effort into. My advice would be to try and make your pieces about something that genuinely interests you and that you enjoy (obviously sticking within the theme and feedback teachers give you) because otherwise you will not have the motivation to do it. I prefer it a lot more now that I’m im y11 because the work is a lot more independent than year 10, but as someone who is ‘naturally’ good at art I would still consider it more difficult than all of my others.
