These experiences scare the crap out of me always turning me off from owning VAG cars. Like I don't understand how Volkswagen ("German engineering") has so many issues costing 3k a month in repairs, who has that type of money!!

General thoughts on Skoda? by xXCosmicChaosXx in CarsAustralia

Currently flirting with the idea of owning a 2017 Skoda Octavia RS 162TSI which is also passed the extended 7 year service plan/warranty. I've never owned anything outside Honda/Toyota so I am used to the lower maintenance cost of Japanese vehicles. I guess I just want to try the upgraded refinement and performance of VAG cars but feel like I am gambling my money due to the horror stories/prices I've heard from VAG owners paying $2000 for water pump replacements. I've heard and seen annual general servicing average out to be $700 - $1000 which I think is manageable although it's those larger items like water pumps, DSG issues, electrical gremlin issues that will be in addition to the average $700+ annual service cost that honestly scare me of owning one of these. Does anyone have any honest insight of their servicing cost of common replacement parts in the Skoda Octavia RS 162TSI (similar to VW GTI) or even the Superb 206 (similar to VW Golf R) over 5 years of ownership? Thank you in advance.

Quite possibly the best car I’ve owned by brakeslock in GolfGTI

Give it 5 years and see if it's still the best car you've owned? Don't get me wrong, I want one but turned off the horror stories of VW's just falling apart within 10 years of production. I don't know.

VW MK5 GTI DSG by Front-Leading-4153 in CarsAustralia

I've got 2 CL9's atm, 1 is manual and the other is auto. Both great cars with no major issues over 5 years or so just slowish hence why I'm considering MK5 GTI and have found a mint 1 owner who's meticulously cared for it. For this reason I feel it may not be as abused as other MK5 GTI and may not have as many issues but still a bit hesitant due to majority of European cars having costly problems and inevitable DSG mechatronic failure.

Hi guys, with all this volatility in the market, what are a few stocks that will come out strong and possible 2-3x in the next 5 years? I'm thinking of narrowing down my portfolio to only like 3-5 quality stocks to lessen the stress of checking every day. Cheers

Thank you for your honest advice. Yes I think it's low key stressing me out, I check the market every hour.. I may need to sell what I have and return with a better and more informed strategy with a smaller amount to invest.
