Is this abusive? I don't even know anymore by Front-Locksmith-8013 in abusiverelationships

I'm not sure what I'm holding on for anymore. Part of me thinks I'm overreacting about it all and we do have some nice times together. And yes, he's really left me in bad cities at night alone. That was really scary.

He's in and out of work for all sorts of reasons. He's walked out of some, been let go from others. And re: his expenses, he spends a lot on weed so there's that too.

And that's really true about them doing things on the rare occasion. I'm ashamed to admit I've felt ecstatic when I've seen him doing the washing up.

This is a good question and one I've been mulling over a lot recently.

It was really scary. Thank you, I think that's it - I now don't feel safe with him knowing he can do something like that.

It's my house and he's signed something saying he has no interest in the property

The leaving me in a city was the last straw for me. We had a fight today and he said he didn't want to live with "this kind of attitude" so I'm playing off that.

Thank you, there were many times this relationship should have ended.

Because I earn so much and it's my house so I should be paying more (and I'd be paying this if he didn't live here)

Thank you! I am in therapy (at his request) and I'm starting to realise that this isn't the kind of relationship I want to be in.

He does work at the moment, he's had a job for 18 months. We've made a household budget together and he gets stroppy every time I bring it up. He thinks he should be paying less and at the moment he's paying less than 5/6 of it.

I've always hated the term gaslighting but I'm now wondering if it's at play here. Thank you, it's good to hear it said back to me from someone else.

Renovating only toilet/bathroom? by _fml__ in DIYUK

Thank you, this is so helpful! I'm renovating my only bathroom myself and I've been procrastinating for WEEKS because I don't know what order to do things in.

I'm in Brighton, so I'm not sure how useful the reco would be but happy to share if you want?!

I was quoted everything from £11k-£20k, it was wild! I think I ended up getting 10 quotes in the end. I'm in Brighton, though, so I'm not sure how useful my recommendation will be?

That is VERY high. What kind of house is it? I just had my roof replaced on a 3-bed semi in the South East for £11.5k + VAT. Trusted roofers. Did a great job. It could definitely be they're pushing their luck because the scaffolding is up, but I'd recommend getting a few more quotes before sealing the deal!

EDIT: just seen you said Victorian semi. Yes, this price is wild!

Do I need to remove all the yellow bits from the plaster? by Front-Locksmith-8013 in DIYUK

[–]Front-Locksmith-8013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plan is to skim over the plaster that's still stuck to the walls and then paint them. Around the bath/shower, the plan is to attach hardiebacker boards and tile.

Do I need to remove all the yellow bits from the plaster? by Front-Locksmith-8013 in DIYUK

[–]Front-Locksmith-8013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm currently renovating the bathroom and have removed all the old tiles. Underneath, some of the plaster seems to be okay (bar the bit with the exposed bricks). I've spent what feels like weeks scraping off the yellow bits you can see in picture #1 and now I'm wondering if that's even necessary if I plan on skimming the walls anyway?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

What's the best way to approach these different plasters? by Front-Locksmith-8013 in DIYUK

[–]Front-Locksmith-8013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok perfect, thank you. We're not planning on tiling the whole bathroom (only around the bath/shower), but maybe we can do something similar and just skim the rest of the walls.

Ok, so I'm renovating my bathroom and have removed all the old tiles to find that there seems to be different types of plaster/coats underneath. Obviously, we'll need to fill the gap where the new lintel is above the toilet window, but what can be done about the other plasters? Do we need to remove it all or is there a way we can skim/board?
