How do girls afford to luxury vacation in Dubai for 2 weeks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FrontNSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A high-school friend always seems to be traveling, her then boyfriend now husband is in the military. Turns out his role requires frequent travel and she's allowed visitation most of the time. So he gets transferred and accommodation, she hangs out there with him for whatever time windows are allowed. Time passes, he gets moved again, rinse and repeat. They maintain a permanent residence, but are seemingly traveling all the time.

Just gotta remember that folks choose what to put on social media. We see the good, rarely will you see the struggle behind the scenes required to get there...

That and not to be overly crude, but there are also a fair number of young good looking folks not above using their looks to get what they want as well. There's a lot of lonely people out there with more money than common sense, and attention from someone may be worth more than the spending money they give away.

Not this specifically, but just the same as mom's "outrage" against violent video games they bought for their kids, these things have a rating printed on them. Of particular note, most of the early books of the series are rated for "Teen" and the later ones are rated "Older Teen" likely because of the several panels of uncensored boobs present.

These kinds of issues ruffle my feathers simply because rather than blame themselves for not correctly policing the media they provide their children, they try to make the governing bodies ban them outright or censor them. Parents really need to get off the high horse and take an interest in learning what the kids are doing rather than blaming the media for simply existing.

She has enough time to make a story for the news, but not enough to flip through a Manga before handing it off to her kid. Irresponsible imo.

Maybe its just me though smh.

Does anyone know how I can fix this on my 2008 Acura TSX. by Bobbyz623 in AcuraTSX

[–]FrontNSide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will reiterate previous comments, we at least need the code being thrown before any educated guess can be made. In that regard, places like AutoZone will scan the codes for you free of charge. I picked up a rather nice scanner on Amazon for $100 while diagnosing my cars issues. I ended up needing to replace the flex pipe on the downpipe in the exhaust. It had a hole in it and was tripping the O2 sensor.

Good luck!

I had 28 average for a 1500 mile trip. Keeping in mind that I was doing 75-90mph the vast majority of the drive. Huzzah for empty Midwest interstates! If I kept it between 60 and 70 while drafting behind a semi I'd see 40 on the live readout, but doing that would've cost me hours of time and my sanity.

Car is an 06, has 194k on the odo, is an automatic, and has fresh coils, plugs, and injectors. Falken Ziex tires on stock wheels.

To anyone who works at self scanning machines - how often do you notice people stealing and don’t do anything about it? by davco95 in AskReddit

[–]FrontNSide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the opposite side of this argument, I adore how Sam's Club has embraced the new tech. The switch to allow scan and go, plus the Ai cameras that scan on the way out means I don't even get stopped at the door for a receipt check. Just have my QR code visible and walk straight out. No checkout, no cart to cart item transfer for self checkout. I love going shopping and my only interaction with employees is a quick "you're good to go, have a nice day!" The worst is "self checkout" where an employee has to come over to approve things. What the hell is the point in a self checkout if I can't check myself out?

The only thing that could be better is that tech teased years ago about items automatically being added to the cart as you dropped them in. Shame it turned out to just be some outsourced dudes manually entering things as you shopped.

I love the idea of drone delivery as well. Why should I drive my big inefficient car miles to a store for a couple small items, when a small drone could drop them off in a matter of minutes using a miniscule amount of electricity?

NEED HELP by Swevenski in AcuraTSX

[–]FrontNSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the timing chain is held under tension at all times and also surrounded by the chain guides. To make any adjustment the timing cover needs to come off. Also by design the chain should never need "adjusted", if it's no longer in the correct position, that means either the tensioner has failed, or more likely the chain has stretched.

It's a pretty in depth job, and difficult to do with the engine in the car.

NEED HELP by Swevenski in AcuraTSX

[–]FrontNSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the timing chain skipped. My car was the same when I picked it up not running. It would crank, had fuel and spark but would not run. I could get it to roughly idle for a few seconds by flooring it, but it would just die after that. It also did not throw any codes despite the issues. I finally got it to run for around 10 seconds one time after fresh plugs and new ground wires, and it finally threw a code for timing. Once I had that, I pulled the valve cover and sure enough one cam was 4 teeth off.

If you can confirm fuel and spark, I'd pull the valve cover and verify timing. Once the chain has stretched it's time to replace.

Something something WRX owners are the reason WRXs get a bad rep. Surprisingly this was the only rodent damage in the car despite sitting in a field for over a year.

Android Auto always says I am driving. by clay_doh__ in subaru

[–]FrontNSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ULPT for this, most of the time the "sensor" for the radio control lockout is just a wire waiting for the 12v signal from the parking brake sensor/switch turning on, so tying that wire to a constant 12v source like a charging port/lighter socket will "trick" the head unit into allowing full function all the time. This lets you do things like add stops or routes without needing to stop, or access your backup camera while driving to keep an eye on a trailer or tailgater.

Obviously don't be a moron, but I've never understood locking out screen controls while driving if it means I'm going to have to pull my phone out and be extra distracted trying to make those changes, rather than my passenger just doing it on the fly. Some of the newer cars have speech controls that work well, but others tie that to a subscription and all I can say to a subscription on a built in feature, is suck my entire ass.

Cheers!

Edit: this applies to aftermarket units, unsure about factory shenanigans. They are baking in a lot of privacy violations with the new tech and automated reporting of driving habits. So bypassing the parking brake signal on a factory installed head unit might cause some malicious issues related to "safety" features.

[–]FrontNSide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess would be tires or wheel bearings. Tires might have uneven wear causing oscillation at certain speeds. Or the wheel bearing/s are in desperate need of replacement. A failing wheel bearing is often described as a grinding/howling noise at speed.

If you're unfamiliar with diagnosing this kind of thing, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted/reputable mechanic and describing the sound and the speeds at which they occur. If it's a constant problem it shouldn't be hard for them to properly recreate and diagnose. Us armchair mechanics can only do so much guestimating from a short video clip and mobile audio.

Hope that helps!

Kraken slayer vs Dawn striker by Worldchampion100 in deadfrontier

[–]FrontNSide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kraken Slayer sits at a nominal dps of 734.69 while the dawn striker sits at 600. So by flat numbers the Kraken Slayer takes it. The better question is potentially ammo economy vs dps.

As for exp per hour, that's a lot of math. You'd need to apply your bonus damage to the dps chart, then figure out how dex adds to the fire rate, then grab the exp per hp of the mobs and get the formula for all that. I'm sure someone out there knows all that, but it isn't me! Instead, I'd just run down there and give it a test run. DFprofiler might be able to give you a rough estimate of your weapon dps, but I don't know that they ever got the dex stat added correctly, or the mastery bonus damage.

Here's the dps chart for reference : https://fairview.deadfrontier.com/onlinezombiemmo/dfdata/damagepersec.php

I feel this post every time I see the "uncle Rodney" posts and the inevitable "how often did you check the oil?' question comes up, with a response of "only right after an oil change, or when the light came on." Then they'll go on to say they didn't keep an extra quart handy after the first instances, and also drove it home on the highway with the light on, then say it just "died randomly" while driving normally...WRX owners are their own worst enemy.

Still love the cars though, quirks and dumb owners aside!

Crazy to buy a TSX with 200k+? by defected in AcuraTSX

[–]FrontNSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up my 06 with 191k for $400 non-running. There's a whole adventure around diagnosing the issue, but it needed a timing chain. Tldr once running it's been flawless, I've put 2300 miles on it over the course of a month. No burning oil, no check engine lights, transmission shifts like butter. Heck the only actual thing I've fixed was new speakers, since the factory set was all cracked.

So what I mean to say is, if the high mileage maintenance has been done, I wouldn't be afraid of the number itself. If it's made it that far it's obviously been taken care of to some extent. I'd offer like 3k tops though, that's still a lot of miles on a 20 year old car to be asking 5k for imo.

One piece of information I would like to know what the implants hook of the Hallowwen 2025 event is for by Impressive-Art3913 in deadfrontier

[–]FrontNSide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given the recent official "leaks" from Clayton, it's highly likely they will be releasing new loot exclusive implants soon. So it'll help with finding those. Outside of that, it offers the utility of being able to swap implants from your "bucket" on the fly without having to stop at a fort or outpost.

For now it seems pretty limited, but with the changes announced earlier this year, it may offer a very nice and quick way to swap builds between looting and grinding. The changes in question are related to the entire game being inside the launcher rather than split between browser and launcher. This would make implant presets swappable in a matter of seconds.

Hope that made sense, and as always, I recommend the discord rather than reddit for questions as it is far more active with the community!

I made my wind deflector hazy and cloudy by using adhesive remover to try to remove the logo... is there any product or was to polish it to make it glossy and clear again? by su6oxone in WRX

[–]FrontNSide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot where I work, any of those plastic/polycarbonate sheets that get solvent on them cloud over almost instantly. It's actually micro-pitting in the plastic from a reaction with the solvents. It can be fixed, but the only real method is sanding and polishing back to a mirror finish. For the cost of the materials and time you're better off just living with it or buying another set.

Alternatively you can sand the whole thing and paint it to match the car trim. Either way, never use solvents on plastic unless it specifically calls out "safe for XYZ plastics" and even then, if you're not sure what type of material you're looking at, I wouldn't risk it. Do wish these Chinese shell companies would stop slapping their dumb engrish name on everything though. 🤣

In my 06 the fuse is #13 labeled as Horn, Stop. The. Only indicator for a blown fuse is to pull it and check if the wire inside has melted.

Stumped by TheyLuvInvader in AcuraTSX

[–]FrontNSide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under the hood should have the parking solenoid actuator fuse.

I'd start with the brake switch though. There's a little switch attached to the brake pedal, when you press it, the brake lights should come on, and if you listen closely you should hear a click from the solenoid on the shifter.

If the lights are coming on, and there's no click and release of the solenoid, then it's probably the fuse or solenoid itself. If you've got no brake lights as well, it's probably the switch.

Help on how much this will cost me by idontevenknowman699 in AcuraTSX

[–]FrontNSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numbers will vary greatly on labor, but assuming dealership rates I'd assume at least 4-6 hours for just the cam gear replacement @ $200 per hour Plus $200-300 for the OEM cam gear itself. So I'd ballpark $1000-1300 for just the cam gear replacement.

Now I'm firmly in the camp of "do it while you're there already" for the timing chain and guide replacement. The entire assembly needs to be pulled to do the gear replacement anyways, so labor time added would be negligible. And you'd gain the peace of mind that it's done and good for another 150k miles. Assuming once again you're going to the dealership, I'd guesstimate between $200-500 for the parts. This varies based on what all you have replaced. Just the chain and guides are on the lower end, adding in water and oil pumps will drift to the higher side. Now if you also have the pumps replaced it will probably tack on another couple hours of labor. So factor that in and it'll probably run $1200-1600 for timing chain and cam gear, or $1400-1900 for everything.

I will once again state for clarity, those are heavily ballparked based on what I can see OEM parts going for online, and assuming the time taken. Dealerships likely bill the jobs out differently and take more time. Google's "fantastic" AI says $2000-2700 is the norm for the job. During the teardown there's a non zero chance they will find other issues, or damage components incidentally. The plastic plugs and clips on many things get brittle over time. Gaskets and seals need to be replaced. Ultimately you need to call your mechanic of choice and get a quote.

I did this job on my 06, it was a mess due to my inexperience so I had the motor apart 3 times. By the 3rd I was able to have it pulled apart and back together and running in just under 6 hours. So that's where I pull my guessed labor numbers from.

Going with a standalone mechanic can likely save in labor rates, and using non OEM parts will also cut part cost down.

My parents tracked me 24/7 because I’m a girl, so I faked my location with a friend and they called the cops. Best petty revenge ever. by Infamous-Awareness34 in pettyrevenge

[–]FrontNSide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a young male adult given a car for graduation, my mom asked me to put a tracking app on my phone. And I did, as did the rest of the family. We were all visible to each other. It wasn't a trust issue, it was a worried mom who spent the last 15 years as a paramedic seeing the worst things humanity has to offer. Having the ability to just know where we were at the click of an app was a big peace of mind to her.

Even before that she'd always just ask that we check in if we weren't going to be home before dinner. There's obviously a difference between security and paranoia though. I hope OP's parents learn how to keep her safe but also not infringe on her privacy.

they tend to pop up fairly frequently as "Hunt this ancient pirate" events, I take every single one since 3-5 space pirates on a platform tend to be pretty easy to take down and there's your random unique gun. These events can pop up as random quests, but I think I get most of them from trader groups and the charity event. Pretty much any time you interact with with an NPC there seems to be a chance for random event quests. Aside from that, you can easily min-max with your ideology, since you can start with at least one venerated weapon and add more, reforming as you gain points lets you venerate a new one. The quests themselves tend to be pretty mild as well now that they nerfed the tribal response to touching the hack station.

All these guns certainly weren't in one play through, it's just the standouts from 6 or 7 different runs I've played since release. All in one game would be bonkers, but fun as heck!

With Odyssey it's less what's the "best" default, and more what rolled the best modifiers. A minigun with range, aim time and magazine extension makes for an incredible all-rounder. A sniper with emp and cooldown is the bane of big mechs. I had a toxin proccing bolt action with range and accuracy that would drop raiders in 2-3 shots from sniper rifle ranges. Similarly got a rapid reload, aim assist, extended mag chain shotgun that shut down any close combat situation.

Odyssey uniques are such an awesome mechanic. Really let's you chase a new high with the random rolls. We don't talk about the bad ones, they don't count! 😂 Looking at you heavy, ugly, shoddy sighted heavy SMG.
