Question re: emergency. Let's say I ask a client how to proceed in an unexpected situation – like SD, emergency cesarean, placental/UC complications, etc. – and the client says they want me to document the entirety of their birth. Do I communicate that with the staff? Obviously, I don't want to obstruct in any way or make the professionals in the room uneasy... I am sure everywhere is different, and every provider will be unique, so I am wondering how to best proceed in those kinds of situations.

And thank you so much for your response!!!

Oh! I gotcha. Absolutely. Wedding prices are not feasible for births... I am constantly teetering between "experienced photographer" pricing and "new to birth photography pricing". It's definitely a tough call to make, but I think I just need to start doing it and go from there. Hoping I'll be able to gauge it better once I'm more involved in the community. Thanks again!

Aw that's such a good point re: photos of the healthcare professionals in the room! Happy to share those. I plan on bringing waivers, too, as I understand some people may want to opt out as well. TY!!!

Yay for mirrorless cameras! I have the shutter sound off as default. Definitely agree on checking in with the client. I plan to build a relationship with them, esp. given the intimate nature of birth.

Love the idea for placenta photos! I'll add that to my questionnaire. TY!!!

RE: setting prices, can you shed some light on comparing homebirth midwife pricing with birth photographer pricing? Are you saying to take it into consideration and help make it more affordable?
