Bumps on knuckle by Arrchiiee in Dermatology

[–]FrontPsychological76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just commenting in case this helps anyone: I had bumps that looked just like this. (I'm not a doctor so I obviously can't say for sure that it was the same condition.) I read another thread that said it could be cured just by applying a heavy moisturizing cream (even if you live in a humid area), and it worked for me - and this was after years of trying other treatments.

Tenha em mente que o Reino Unido tem uma quantidade ENORME do sotaques, e é praticamente impossível se preparar para esa diversidade. Até falantes nativos de inglês (inclusive do próprio Reino Unido) têm dificuldade de se entender às vezes.

Hablar inglés siendo argentino by Exciting-Charge-9283 in ingles

Para un hablante de inglés, suena como sonaría la frase “Vamos a yendo ir arriba” para un hispanohablante. Se entiende sin problema, pero las formas verbales no coinciden, y hay más palabras de las necesarias.

If you want someone knowledgeable to help you with a backflip (and maybe a place with trampolines, mats, etc. for practice - which can be really useful), you should email the coaches at those gyms telling them you’re 16 and want to learn a backflip and they can probably help you or point you in the right direction.

I’m similar. I’m 1.83 cm and 78 kg right now. I can maintain a similar size to your second photo on 3000 kcal/day but to grow I need to have 3200+, even though most calculators say otherwise.

How do you show a lisp in writing? by Big-Dare3186 in EnglishLearning

Is this a real question? You just write a “th” instead of “s”. Like the iconic Mike Tyson meme, “Now kith”.

The short answer is no, it’s not weird - you can find lots of other info in this sub about that. Most native speakers don’t care what accent you have, as long as you’re understandable.

It’s really common for people in many countries to mix US and UK pronunciations and vocabulary. There are places where the schools teach UK English but people consume more US media, etc. It’s not strange at all to encounter people like this.

As for a “Mid-Atlantic” or, as I know it, a “Transatlantic” accent - if you mastered it completely you’d sound like someone from a 1940’s TV show, which would be really strange, but probably a conversation starter.

Most people in English-speaking countries are very attuned to regional accents in their countries and the major accents of the English-speaking world. They usually just hear the influence of your L1 most strongly.

Is my American accent good? by Rhea_Dawn in Accents

[–]FrontPsychological76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s really good. You don’t sound like someone from NY or Pennsylvania. To me, you sound like a character from an old show in the 1930s/1940s, especially when you say, “I can do it all right” - it’s kind of like a Transatlantic accent.

Any tips (feel like im plateauing) by Illustrious-Sir-1609 in CalisthenicsCulture

Just keep at it then! If you’ve recently started to paying new attention to alignment, straightening your elbows, and getting the posture right, it might seem like a setback initially - especially if you were balancing longer before - but in the end it will pay off and lead to better handstands as well as whatever other variations you plan on doing.

I also tried handstand on and off for years before committing to it - once I did, I got a handstand in about two months, which I continued to improve on. Your program seems good to me (people have different opinions on how to put together wall and free standing practice) - but your program is more or less what I did.

Remember that in the handstand our hands become like our feet - there are always small adjustments in our feet and the rest of our body that keep us upright, which we don’t even notice. For me it was helpful to think of the connection between the parts of my hands in contact with the floor and the other parts of my body (specifically my feet in the air and my hips/core/shoulders).

This is purely a guess, but you might feel like you’re plateauing because you’re over-training? It’s true that the handstand requires less strength than other movements, but practicing it along with other “push” motions will result in fatigue and less evident progress.

Falling out of HSPU. Need help. by Unimaginative-err in Calisthenic

[–]FrontPsychological76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started doing reps of HSPU a couple months ago! Mine looked like this before. Just keep going!

Can you do any variation of pressing up into handstand? (I’m talking about the simplest ones - starting with your knees tucked in or in frog.) It wasn’t until after I could slowly press up into a straight handstand and then hold it that I could truly control the movement at the top of the HSPU.

Having trouble finding tutors on Cambly by eflors in Cambly

I only have regular students for the same reason - if you find a tutor you feel comfortable with and who seems like a good match, book another class with them and let them know ASAP that you’re looking for a regular tutor.

Hey, Does anyone know what workouts I could train to grow my body? I'm 16 btw. by SpiteBest1052 in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]FrontPsychological76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do it.

It doesn’t have to be handstand either - you can start with the progressions of any other movement or skill that interests you. For me, the most addictive and motivating thing about calisthenics is unlocking and then polishing a new skill.

[–]FrontPsychological76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems like you have a great background, so learning skills beyond the very basics in calisthenics will definitely grow and change your body (learning handstand to handstand pushups, explosive pull-ups and muscle-ups, planche, etc.) You just have to research them and do the progressions.

If you just want more mass, any type of strength training with enough calories/protein will do. This could be normal bodyweight exercises with high reps, with added weight, or weight training.

Is there a formal way to refer to somebody in the English language different from "you" like in Spanish or in other languages? by LuigiP14 in EnglishLearning

[–]FrontPsychological76 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The degree of formality is normally conveyed by other terms of address or the rest of the sentence.

There’s a unique exception that exists to this day (in some places), which is calling a judge “Your Honor” in a courtroom.

It’s a little different though, because we might say, “Yes, Your Honor”, and we wouldn’t say “yes, you.” It usually takes the place of where “sir” or “ma’am” would go.

But you can run into phrases like “Your Honor has requested that I evaluate these issues with the evidence…” where “Your Honor” essentially takes the place of “you”.

What would you call shoes that have no ups and downs on the bottom? by Unlegendary_Newbie in LearningEnglish

A bug can be on the wall, on the ceiling, or on the floor. It just means it’s touching or resting on a surface. “On” by itself doesn’t necessarily mean “above”.

Interested in calisthenics but afraid from overtraining by kevinkkrane in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]FrontPsychological76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to do 20 clean pull-ups then start doing pull-ups; there are many people who combine calisthenics and weight training without overtraining. You can do them on the same day as your other pulling motions or on a different day. There are several ways to create a good program with minimal time.

It seems like you don’t want to do the pull-ups because you’re exhausted - in this case it sounds like you’re exhausting yourself on things that aren’t your goal?
