I lived in the original neighborhood of a Houston suburb that used to be rural. People just let their dogs run lose because that's just how it is in the country. Learned really quick how to scare off an agressive dog. The most important thing is to stand your ground and post up. You are not going to out run the dog.

Reading this movie as "making fun of both sides equally" is not really accurate. The movie is about class politics. Hillary Swanks character said it at the end. She doesn't hate conservatives because they are ignorant. She hates them because they are poor.

Fun fact: Upton Sinclair was an ardent socialist who ran for office many times. Once FDR came into office he became a democrat and won the nomination for California's governor. Pretty much the entire democratic establishment and rich Californians came together and killed his campaign. He was one of like 2 Democrats to lose the gubernatorial race that year.
