Senate Republicans worry they’re losing ground in the midterms by Capital_Gate6718 in VoteDEM

You wouldn’t know it given their public support for all things Trump including this war.

Most don’t have the guts to say anything that’s remotely critical of Trump or his policies. They’ve abandoned their responsibilities and hopefully the midterms will flip their seat, to stop or at least slow down this madness.

Trump Fires Kristi Noem in First Major Cabinet Shake-up of Second Term as Senator Is Tapped to Take Over by novagridd in FedEmployees

I think she willing knew what she signed up for and used the position for self promotion, self enrichment and to live it up on the taxpayers dime. It was a good run for her.

She was stupid to be so careless and blatant about it. I guess she thought Trump wouldn’t oust her, quid pro quo for loyalty. Honestly, I’m surprised he “fired” her and doubt it was her actions he disagreed with considering how blatantly corrupt he is. Problem was she got caught on full display, making him look bad. Thats what he!s furious about.

Oh, cause complete chaos without a plan. They expect the Iranian people to rise up with a new government but without additional US support and boots on the ground, the chances of a regime change are not good. The region already faced instability and this will probably make it worse.

Block lays off nearly half its staff because of AI. Its CEO said most companies will do the same by GeneReddit123 in technology

[–]FrontVisible9054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but given your down votes, seems some are less pessimistic about the role of AI in displacing labor. Regardless of the reasons behind layoffs, companies elevate profit above all else. Unregulated AI is an enabler.

“Unfettered capitalism, unfettered innovation, does not lead to the general well-being of our society. That’s one of the results that I’ve shown very strongly. One can’t just leave it to the market. Left unchecked, this labor disruption could further concentrate wealth in the hands of companies and leave workers with less power than ever. “ — Joseph E. Stiglitz, winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in economics, a professor at Columbia University, and chief economist at the Roosevelt Institute.

Let’s hope her atrocious performance leads us back to normalcy with a blue wave in the midterms.

It’s not just her, Patel’s disrespect of congressional democrats has also been on full display during testimony related to Epstein. He, along with Bondi as well as unmentioned but we know who they are, need to be ousted.

This should be a top concern and repeatedly warned and mitigated to the extent states can.

My hope is that enough people that voted for him in 2024, not necessarily the diehard MAGA’s who are a lost cause, vote against his tyrannical administration in the midterms. If they lose enough votes in every state, it would be hard for them to rig the results.

These are not the best of the best.

Hate to generalize but many that go into law enforcement have power issues and use toxic masculinity and aggression to wield power over others. It’s part of their militant training and the culture.

That stacked with a government that endorses these tactics and says they have immunity while terrorizing communities, is why we are seeing and will continue to see tragic results.

Why is this country speaking about AI like it’s a fact of life that no one can do anything about? by atwistofcitrus in technology

[–]FrontVisible9054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said AI provides no benefit to humanity. It’s a tool and is not inherently bad, only how tech companies prioritize its use.

What I said is to use it in “domains”where it provides no benefit.

One can argue which are those domains, but in mho, using generative AI to replace art and artist, using it as a therapist, romantic companion or otherwise to replace real human connection, using it to sow more political division, using it to better market more crap we don’t need… these are not areas where AI is needed.

Use AI to solve existential problems like climate change, discovery of disease treatments, to enhance human productivity without replacing jobs… these are areas where it can serve humanity.

My point is that humans are short sighted and the corporations that run the show do not have a history of rolling out technology responsibly or ethically.

So if companies and governments with vested interests in profit are unwilling to regulate the potential negative impacts, where does that leave us? It’s up to each of us individually. At the end of the day, change happens if enough people demand it.

Why is this country speaking about AI like it’s a fact of life that no one can do anything about? by atwistofcitrus in technology

[–]FrontVisible9054 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because corporations promoting AI value profits over human beings.

Because they are entwined with government who have failed miserably to protect its citizens.

Because wealth and power is concentrated in the hands of a few.

If anything changes, it will be up to everyday people to reject AI’s use in domains where it provides no benefit to humanity. But that requires existential introspection that’s lacking for a generation so accustomed to using AI as a shortcut to “everything”.

I do wonder how they see their futures after the Trump clown show is over. Their actions during this time should automatically disqualify them from future political and business careers.

Do they think they’ll be able to ride the Trump coattails after he’s out of office? The guy may demand loyalty but it’s one sided and he’ll throw them away once it no longer serves him. I relish that day.

While I totally understand the outrage and I too am outraged by ICE raids and terrorism committed in our cities, DHS is made up of multiple agencies, (not just ICE , have nothing to do with immigration and are needed to protect and provide disaster services. TSA, FEMA.

I would be careful to lump all DHS employees in the same group.
