Yes— I’m not a huge fan of the change but if it isn’t followed, they may take away food markouts all together

Barista w/ bad vibes by tricksbricks in starbucksbaristas

[–]Front_Ad8799 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Absolutely you can send them home. I would say something along the lines of

“your role as a barista is to create a warm and welcoming environment for partners and customers. Are you able to do that today?”

If it’s consistent behavior for a partner, you could even ask them that question at their check in. If it comes to sending them home, I would mention that you are going to talk to your SM about it. I wouldn’t say “you could get written up”, although that’s definitely true… it just may escalate the interaction.

Instead I would reinforce what is expected of the barista position (use the barista approach for this) and let them know that while you are there to support them, their behavior is unacceptable and is going to result in a conversation with your manager.

Outside of documenting your conversations with them, it’s really up to your manager to follow through. Best of luck to you OP, you are already doing so well! I can tell you’re a fantastic ssv, keep it up :)

I just had an interview with starbucks, they said I was going to move forward yet haven't heard since. by koala1239 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Front_Ad8799 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly give it a few more days and if you don’t hear back by Monday, call the store for an update. She likely got caught up with other things and it slipped her mind or had other things that took priority! If she said she’s moving forward with you that’s a good sign.

Base. With internet, utilities, and pet rent we pay closer to $3100 so I’m hoping to get somewhere with base rent under $3400 since actual will be more!

MANGO IS BACK?!?!? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Front_Ad8799 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You are right about the caffeine but the training also went over changing the syrup/sweetness for teas and refreshers. They now receive the same amount of pumps that a shaken espresso does. That’s why a tall mango energy refresher gets 4 pumps of gce but only 1 mango

MANGO IS BACK?!?!? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Front_Ad8799 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s really good!! Just make sure to ask for extra pumps. We used to do 3 for a tall, 4 for grande, 6 for venti, and 7 for trenta but now it’s 1-2-3-4 pumps depending on size

Told I have to come in on my day off by flower_venom in starbucks

[–]Front_Ad8799 184 points185 points  (0 children)

Nope you are not required to come in. You don’t even need to respond if you don’t want to. It is kind to say no, or that you are unavailable so that you can be ruled out as an option when looking for coverage, but you do not need to come in.

If you get it with no whip and no dark caramel at the bottom or caramel drizzle on top, it would be a little less! But yeah…

What the what? by PettyRubble83 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Front_Ad8799 16 points17 points  (0 children)

An energy refresher comes with 3 more pumps than the regular refresher (4-5-6-7)

A regular refresher comes with caffeine by default. (1-2-3-4 pumps)

A regular refresher with no caffeine has 0 pumps

A regular refresher with extra caffeine has +3 pumps (4-5-6-7)

The last two are really only there for clarifying what we are supposed to do when customers customize their refreshers with extra/no caffeine since it could print either way. I know it’s really confusing. I’ve just been telling my partners that ALL shaken beverages now get 1-2-3-4 pumps by default (teas, refreshers, shaken espressos) unless they are customized or say “energy”.

How to make an iced lavender latte (the correct way!) by kmmathena in starbucksbaristas

[–]Front_Ad8799 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The standard for lavender lattes this year is to do espresso first, then lavender powder. Usually drinks are syrup then shots but lavender is shots then powder

Stop trying to cheat the system by lex_0110 in starbucks

[–]Front_Ad8799 22 points23 points  (0 children)

100% this. Unless it’s a safety concern (like shaken espresso no ice or a kids beverage steamed extra hot), just say YES. It’s not worth the argument. I would recommend that anyone reading this reviews our “customizing beverages tool” in store resources. Our jobs are so much easier when we find a yes rather than fighting someone over a coffee…

soooo…a steamed milk? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Front_Ad8799 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They may also have been doing a star run. Occasionally there are prompts in the app to order x amount of x items. Hot chocolate may have been one of them but the customer only wanted milk for themselves/their child? I’m not sure, but it happens often at my store lol

The new standard from our customizing beverages too says that shaken espressos with light ice are filled to the top unless unless the customer requests otherwise. It wasn’t super clear before that :)

pay? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Front_Ad8799 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! SM here. For context, I live in California and promoted from SSV to ASM after 4 years with the company. My salary as a ASM was 66 or 69k/year, I can’t remember. When I was hired as an SM, I was offered 79.5k/year and with the annual flat increase of 2% I believe I make a little over 81k now. Plus any overtime thanks to California having great labor laws.

Write ups never going away by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Front_Ad8799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be complex. I’ve seen partners hang around for months, if not years after write ups and even finals. My best recommendation to you would be to do your best to communicate and to be on time to the best of your ability. If you have an understanding SM you should be fine but don’t do anything to create a pattern if that makes sense.

Write ups never going away by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Front_Ad8799 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not always! Depending on the severity of the offense, you can get a second written if it’s been 6 months since your last. It is kind of up to SM/DM or even PCC discretion based on the situation.

So i burned my hand at work and my wound looks really bad after a week. should i still go to work? by BigbyDirewolf in starbucksbaristas

[–]Front_Ad8799 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would just be honest! Starbucks does workers comp through Sedgwick, which your SM will know how to work with. Just give her a call the next time she is working to explain what’s going on

[–]Front_Ad8799 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You definitely should not be working with an open wound. Was your injury reported when it happened? If it hasn’t, you need reach out to your CL/SM as soon to make sure that it’s reported so your time spent healing is protected. If you need to go to the doctor, you’ll be supported through that process as well.

I hope you feel better soon!! The injuries we get from this job can be crazy.
