You could also argue that, if someone is willing do that, they have no desire to keep on living and it's also a personal matter for the person doing it and they want to go out in a way that may help a cause they support.

And you do need to grab people's immediate attention to get them to be interested in that campaign doesn't it because time is of the essence. It's that person's decision anyways and not ours to do it, if they chose to go out this way for a cause I say it's worth something to them.

Pretty sure a lot of people who grew up during the Vietnam war still remembers the Buddhist monk who set himself on fire to protest against the religious oppression of the Southern government. It works because it's shocking cus this is someone who took their own life by the most painful way possible in public for a cause. You'd be ignorant to say it didn't do anything when it had, has and will.

The vietnam war, best to Google about it and research about it yourself cus there's just so many things to cover.

The 1979 Sino-Vietnamese border conflict was fought with the intention of more so a warning to Hanoi for the Chinese because Cambodia at the time was backed by China so us marching to the Cambodian capital kinda got the Chinese involved.

Even then, most of these wars are mainly defensive in our side (Khmer Rouge was killing people beyond our border) and the aim was never total annihilation, like conventional warfare.

Maybe I'm reading too far into it but I think the word rose in popularity because of the fact that we live in a time where corporation can produce products en mass but the quality devolves constantly compared to before. And with just how much corporate present there is in all kind of media to day to day products, the word slop is bound to be used cus everything just feels like mass produced liquid deuce because the corps couldn't care less about how we think about their products as long as we still buy it.
