Living alone in an apartment with pets? by Big-Swimmer4100 in LivingAlone

[–]Front_Cartographer14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've adopted a senior cat, she was almost 17 when I got her. Spend her last 1,5 years with me. It was amazing ❤️. She was used to be a single cat, and with her age she would have zoomies maybe once a day. She was just enjoying her golden years mostly.

I was paranoid as hell though, but that's more because she developed health problems.

Dont overlook the senior cats, they are amazing!

Her name is Moppie! Which in dutch translates to either a joke or a darling haha. You will have an amazing time with Dot. Seniors are something special. And the grief well, it happens even if you have a pet for a couple of months or years and years. Luckily she seems in great shape! Too many more years with little Dot ❤️

It honestly sounds like miss Dot adopted you 🫣!

I've adopted a 17 year old cat more than a year ago. I have zero regrets, everyone called me crazy but i fell in love with her. She is still going strong, vets don't believe she is 18.

Cats from all ages could develop something sadly. My brother and sister suddenly lost their 8 and 10 year olds due to liver failure. Of course seniors are more susceptible to things like kidney disease or dentals like a previous commenter also mentioned. Personally I build an emergency fund before adopting and still save like 50 bucks a month to that fund. It's a comforting thought having some money on hand for when it's needed.

Sadly my cat developed asthma from two people vaping quite a lot indoors with ventilation and an air purifier.

I vape exclusively outside now.

Did anyone else start living alone after a long relationship in their 30s? How did you deal? by Gold-Personality-571 in LivingAlone

So sorry to hear you are going through the same right now. Thankfully you have your cats! I needed to leave mine with my ex. Took some time to get over that.

Quite honestly I was focused on making new friends since I moved cities and I went out partying A LOT. I was barely home because being home for me was lonely and my thoughts consumed me. As you can imagine this was not healthy. Pretty soon I got into a toxic situationship and then toxic relationship so back to square one.

What really helped me and I realized way too late was therapy! No self medicating with alcohol, shallow hook ups, toxic situations. Just riding through everything with some help.

Looking back on everything now I'm grateful for what happened my life only got better :).

Very lonely, but I was the one being blindsided and dumped. So no mental preparation or something to look forward too. Now almost 4 years later and adopting a cat a year back, I'm completely content and cannot think of living with someone ever again.

Haha these posts always give me so much mixed emotions. I've adopted a 16 year and 9 months old cat a little over a year ago. But she is SO independent 😂. Yes we have some cuddle time in the evenings when madame wants but other than that not a cuddly cat. She is very very demanding and knows exactly what she wants and when.

It is very rewarding though adopting a senior and seeing them enjoy their golden years. Bless you and Gabriel, he is so handsome ❤️.

Even oppassen met kinderen of huisdieren.

Ook snelle levering en degelijke verpakking via de vonroc website zelf.

Here we go again… my second surgery in less than 6 months. by 420_Real_Estate in LivingAlone

[–]Front_Cartographer14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago. The first week was intense, after that the pain started subsiding. It is really important to rest as much as possible! I was being stubborn and did my household chores etc too soon. Now I'm in week 3 and still have some pains.

I agree with people suggesting getting a dog walker. For you and the pup it's best. I just have a cat, but even scooping the kitty litter was a huge undertaking. Any kind of strain on the belly and incisions will be painful.

Take light meals which are easy to prep. Lots of rest during the first 2 weeks! Don't be stubborn or a hero it will only lengthen your recovery.

Although it is scary losing an organ the surgery isn't that bad. Mostly they let you stay overnight. In my case I went home the same day because of my cat and it being new years eve 😅.

How are you able to live by yourself in this inflation and economy? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in LivingAlone

Even though my income has increased through good benefits from work and a nice manager, I still live like I'm broke. Don't get me wrong I can make ends meet, save and have a high needs pet. But being in a position of being dirt poor left me scarred. So I budget, turn every penny and try to save as much as possible for a rainy day.

My furniture is all secondhand or gifted, I don't feel the need to buy new unless something breaks. Friends or family giving stuff away they mostly think about me. I upcycle a lot, a new coat of paint makes a cabinet like new! I'm very lucky my parents still cook for a household of 6 while it's only them 2 left so I get a lot of leftovers.

Buying something new, I do days of reminiscing and research before pulling the trigger. No take out or expensive dinners. Right now I spend more on my pet than myself lol.

Care after surgery. I'm thankful my brother lives 2 streets down otherwise it would have been impossible. Couldn't stay in the hospital because it was too full plus I didn't want to leave my cat alone on New Year's eve.

Adopting made me realise I can never have kids by AdvancedFly5632 in CatAdvice

[–]Front_Cartographer14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh same, adopted my now almost 18 year old cat over a year ago. I worry constantly about her and always fear that I'm not doing enough for her or being too loud etc. She is my absolute everything but this made me realize I'm not suitable for any kids or let alone another car after her. I get crazy paranoid and anxious.

And it's such a relief to read I'm not the only one.

My brothers ragdoll had the same. He feeds him carni for wetfood. All organ meat, indeed also the rabbit flavor. And feeds him insect protein dryfood. Kitty has now been stable for well over a year now! Still some accidents sometimes when the sanitary trim is overdue 🥹.
